ADAM DIVINO'S FAIRYTALES & THE MACABRE THEATRE PILOT 'HANSEL & GRETAL' Written by Adam Divino Based on, the classical tale by Brothers Grimm Email: adam@vainconcepts.com Phone Number: 213.456.1326 EXT. A SMALL COTTAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WOODS NARRATOR Once upon a time, in a far off wood, a young boy and girl were tortured by their wicked stepmother for eating more than they were allowed for the dayThe camera slowly descends onto the set, with the step-mother shooing HANSEL and GRETAL out of their home by their ears. STEP-MOTHER You venomous vermin! She throws them onto the hay. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) What did I tell you about eating the bread I locked away in the cellar?! The brother and sister give each other a look of despair. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) You hideous, worthless orphans! I will not starve during this famine to feed the likes of you two! They accept the berating from their step-mother. Suddenly their father, her husband calls out approaching the home from over the hill. The step-mother panics. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) Uf! Oi! Into the house with the two of you! She hurls a bucket of water onto them, throwing sponges at their feet. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) Clean yer bloody faces and scutter back into that rat’s nest from which you came! The two scurry into the home, as she primps her dress, and lights the candle hanging near the front door; it makes the sound of a crystal bell. Her husband approaches from over the hill. He see’s his wife, and her face begins to glow, she flips her attitude and exudes the essence of a belle. 2. Her husband is a gallant, muscular, handsome, sweaty, hard and scorched from the day; a rugged, beautiful man. He grasps her bodice in his hands, and she melts and ooh’s like the reader of an erotic novel. He buries his face into her breasts, and begins running his hand up her dress. She gyrates and moans in pleasure, he grunts and takes her in further. Just then, a bucket falls over three feet away from them. They snap out of their frenzy and focus on the source. It is HANSEL and GRETAL peeping at them with curious eyes. Disgusted, the step-mother pushes her husband off of her, into the bushes with his children. She runs off into the home crying at the top of her lungs in a hoarse voice. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) I can’t lives with ye’s! All trash ye’s be’s! She slams the door behind her and locks it; blowing out the outdoor candle. The family sits out in the moonlight looking at the door. HANSEL How was yer day, Papa? FATHER It was good until now, Son. INT. KITCHEN The scene cuts to the family huddled in the cottage under a dim light at a stone dinner table. They have plates in front of them, each plate with the quarter of one slice of bread. GRETAL eats her piece with a fork and knife delicately and intently. The step-mother looks on irritated by the sound of the fork and knife hitting the plate. She groans under her breath. STEP-MOTHER Husband. FATHER Yes wife. She nibbles a piece of her bread. STEP-MOTHER When will we have food to go with this cardboard we are stuck forcing down our gullets? 3. FATHER Wife, the lord providesSTEP-MOTHER THE LORD ISShe stands up, everyone is shocked, she stares at them in contempt. She screams, she slams her fists onto the table, she then flips it over. They are shocked. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) I think it would be a GOOD IDEAEveryone’s attention is grasped, all eyes are on the stepmother; who recognizes their attention and clears her throat. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) -I think it would be a good idea for us to take a walk to the wood as a family tomorrow. GRETAL glows and turns to HANSEL. GRETAL Oh I just love the wood! The two children smile and begin play talking with one another. CUT TO: NARRATOR That night, when the mother figured the children would be asleep she turned to her husband, and began to stroke his loins. He grunted, and she shushed him with her finger and continued to stroke his member. STEP-MOTHER (in a hiss snakes voice) Lisssten to me my hussssband! The time has come for us to ssspawn our own sssseeeeeeeeeed. She increases her stroking speed and causes him to groan in pleasure, she wraps her fingers around his lips, and resumes stroking slowly. 4. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) Now lissssssten to meee. Tomorrow, I shall guide thee into the woods. We shall take thy kin and leave them within. Return with them WITHOUT WE SHALL! ALONE TOGETHER! TO BREED AND PHILE, LUST AND NO LONGER (she searches for a word)DENIAL! She does some magic and unseen move under the covers and he climaxes and groans out loud. They turn and begin ravishing one another. The camera slowly pans to the cottage attic, where the children listen in horror, looking at each other in despair. CUT TO: EXT. HOME, NEXT MORNING The step-mother ushers the two outside the house, handing Hansel and Gretal their quarter share of the families daily bread slice. GRETAL (receiving the bread) Can we just eat the other pieces? The loaf is well over two weeks old and molding now too. The mother drops the bread inches out of GRETAL’s outstretched hand and lands into the dirt. STEP-MOTHER There ye are; the dirt‘ill give yeh some added nutrients! She hisses at GRETAL who flinches. HANSEL hands GRETAL his piece and takes GRETAL’s. The father steps out the house with a napsack. The stepmother panics. STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) Oh no you don’t! FATHER What?! I wanted to treat my children to some berries and cheeses I purchased from the market this morning. 5. She snatches the napsack, hurling it to her breasts and turning to him with eyes that could kill. STEP-MOTHER THIS FOOD IS FOR ME YE HEAR! The and the the and whole family is shocked. The father is a spineless man, submits. The stepmother scurries into the house placing napsack inside her treasury, she comes back out, padlocks door. She takes a deep breath, puts on her proper face accent, smiles and says: STEP-MOTHER (CONT’D) Shall we proceed to a wonderful stroll in the wood? CUT TO: TIMELAPSE: The parents lead the hike, like two lover’s on a safari “ooing and aa’ing” pointing out different sites and scenes to each other in the woods. The camera pans to the children, who are being neglected, and over time are exhausted, dehydrated and look as if they’re staggering in a death march. The family finally comes to a stop in the middle of deep-forest. GRETAL falls face first into the ground. HANSEL rushes to her aid, calling to his father; who sits on a rock ravishing the step-mother, laughing as they drink wine and eat grapes. HANSEL Father! Help me! GRETAL has fell ill due to malnourishment! CUT TO: Shot of the father, who motorboats the stepmother, they are in their own lust filled world, like two honeymooners in a flurry of passion. FATHER (muttering through making out) Oh- well- that’s just awful! Something- like- that- should- have never happened! We- should -call forSTEP-MOTHER KISS ME! LOVE ME! RAVISH ME! FATHER -Oh! 6. He dives deeper into the passion, lifting his wife up, who wraps her legs around his waist as the two abandon the children and run off into the wood. HANSEL is left with his dehydrated sister at his side, afraid, alone and scared. The woods begin to chime with the sounds of unknown creatures. HANSEL is alone and afraid, he pets his sister hair. HANSEL Whatever shall I do? HANSEL says out loud, pondering his inevitable doom. Hours pass, day turning into night. Just then GRETAL wakes up in his arms, confused, looking at the dark wood wondering where they are. GRETAL Hansel, where are mother and father? HANSEL I do not know Gretal, but it is getting dark and we cannotJust then a wolf howls nearby. HANSEL (CONT’D) (whispering) We cannot stay here exposed in the open wood for much longer, we must seek shelter and refuge somewhere. She grasps her stomach, which growls. GRETAL I am hungry too. His stomach growls as well. Just then, an eerie mist fills the wood, and the fine tuned sound of a handbell pierces through the mist with a bright flash of light. The two gasp, as like a skipping stone, the light and tone continue through the wood, lighting a way. The two mesmerized as if under a trance, begin to follow it. The children’s eyes form an eerie blue haze over them as they follow the light with supreme speed and agility, as if under a curse. As they step, and the bell chimes, and the light flashes, a suspenseful track syncs shots with the parents copulating in the woods. 7. FATHER Tell me what you have done. STEP-MOTHER What I knew I had to. I called upon the witch of the wood to handle them. FATHER You sentenced my children to the witch of the wood?! She will eat them! STEP-MOTHER I know. FATHER How could you do such a horrible thing, what will become of my children?! STEP-MOTHER They will die which is why I take your seed now to engender spawn a new life! The father thrusting the mother cuts with shots of the children’s feet galloping across the leaved filled grounds of the woods. The children are chasing this light through the forest, transfixed by it. As the track becomes incredibly intense, and the parents climax, the last bell rings as the children feet land in front of a picket white-fence fashioned from frosted gum-sticks. The camera pans over the children, revealing a luxurious mansion made entirely of ginger-bread and candy. It is covered in edible decorations and lights. They look up at the house in awe. The camera pans over it as the children approach it with eyes of absolute wonder. All around them, immaculate works of culinary majesty. They both fall to their knees, and begin laughing and hugging each other in joy. Just then, the homes front door opens, with a bright white-light flashing the silhouette of a shapely and beautiful woman’s body over them in the snow. THE WITCH (in a commanding strong beautiful voice) Oh you poor DEAR children! Come in! It’s freezing out! She laughs. 8. THE WITCH (CONT’D) Whatever on earth brought you out here so deep into my woods? HANSEL Our parents abandoned us! GRETAL They left us out to die! THE WITCH Oh well, that’s just. not. right. Come in, let me feed on you two. She ushers them up the porch and into her home. HANSEL (whispering to Gretal inconspicuously) Did she just say feed on US two? GRETAL is taking in the beautiful sights of the home and shrugs her brothers statement. GRETAL Don’t be ridiculous Hansel, this woman is kind, only kind people live in homes like these. She points out to the decadent design and furnishings of the home. It’s like the inside of a posh Who’s house, bright, colorful, warm, spirited and inviting. She puts her arms around their shoulders and walks them down the hallway, the door shutting behind them. Outside, her front porch light turns on with the light that guided the children through the forest, chiming its bell again. The candied house, in an instant, turns into a destitute witches house from the outside. The witches laugh echoes in the night. CUT TO: EXT. WOODS, NIGHT. The Father and Step-Mother walk through the woods under moonlight, arguing. 9. FATHER I am worried of my children! What say of ye? Ye be a witch?! STEP-MOTHER I am what I am and have been since the dawn of mankind, I am the harvester of souls, the ruiner of planets, and the destroyer of all mortals! FATHER Ye hast me seed within thee. STEP-MOTHER Ay, tis be true. I has ye seed; the pearl of ye loins in me belly. But tis not me belly. TIS THE BELLY OF HELL! Tis the child of hell ye sown into this here womb! I made a deal with the witch of the wood I did! For eternal damnation, she would ensure I attain everlasting life, beauty and power. She hath broke a shard of her power and given it to me. You hath not make love with yer wife, but ye lain with the flesh of sin itself! And now, I have served my purpose with you, you have given me the flesh to feed the witch who hath given me this power, a human child for her tasting. FATHER Which power do ye speak of? Ye is no witch. Ye is a whore! Ye has always been a whore! Ye’s only power has been that disgusting yield to which thou cast the dark hue of lust. Perversion on my path of light! From my first wife thou hast ruined me to eternal damnation inShe raises her arm and clenches her hand into a fist facing downward toward the Earth; this causes the earth to crack beneath him. A spiked black, beanstalk shoots up from the cracks, coiling around his leg, and running its way in and out his mouth. His organs spill over the beanstalk. 10. She smiles at the sight, breathes in the steam coming off his mutilated body and spreads her arms like an eagle, lifting her head to the night sky. She begins prancing through the fog giggling as she does. STEP-MOTHER (laughing and singing) Free at last! Free at last! Hello New Moon! I am free at last! CUT TO: INT. LUXURIOUS COTTAGE Inside the kitchen, the witch presents the children with a wonderful spread of savories and sweets. Their eyes, noses and mouths expand at the sight. THE WITCH (sounding much more hoarse) Eat up children, eat up! GRETAL Oh joy Hansel! The two hop onto the large table and begin stuffing their faces, smiling joyously with one another. The witch watches them, her face stiff, her eyes darting, mechanical, shooting back and forth, studying the chewing motions and swallows of the children, she swallows a pond of saliva generating in her mouth. The children look onto her and ask politely. HANSEL Miss, wouldn’t ye like to eat with us? GRETAL (encouraging) Yes! Come! Please do! There is plenty! Thou is so kind to nourish us! Without moving a muscle or lifting an ounce of grace, the witches flat lips mutter. THE WITCH Eat. You Eat. I will Eat.... The two children are hanging onto her last word wondering what it might be. 11. She smiles, and reveals rotted teeth with bugs crawling in them. This makes HANSEL and GRETAL recoil. She shuts her lips, closing her forced smile, and shoots open her eyes like a snake, peering into their souls. She begins to laugh to herself, her laughing turning into cackling, HANSEL and GRETAL look at each other helplessly. She stands, casting a large shadow over them, her cackling turning into howls and growls and demonic roars. Her shadow expands filling the room, and transforming every luxury aspect of it into an old and haunted set. Her skin breaks, revealing multiple arms, a tail, and a demonic face. She breaks out of the skin of a beautiful woman, and faces the screaming children. Laughing at the top of her lungs, she grasps both of their wrists and drags them through the hallway, out the house into the front yard, there she throws HANSEL into a cage and levitates GRETAL into the air. She speaks to both of them calmly. THE WITCH (CONT’D) Now. What shall I do with you two. GRETAL (interjecting) -PLEASE! Let us goGRETAL grimaces in pain, and her spine cracks. The witch is twisting her spine. THE WITCH SILENCE! You pitiful, insolent, worthless pile of rat-drivel! GRETAL winces in pain. HANSEL Let her go! The witch casts her arm toward him, and his mouth seals shut, he begins to panic. GRETAL (crying) What do you want from us? THE WITCH Submission. I demand it, or I will kill you both, and I don’t like the idea of doing that when I can instead fatten the two of you up to be eaten! 12. GRETAL Anything! Please! Just release your hold over me! THE WITCH Very well. The witch releases her gaze and GRETAL falls to the floor. The witch towers over GRETAL, wagging her finger in the young girls face, explaining the terms. THE WITCH (CONT’D) Now you listen here! You will help me fatten your brother! She twists the girls ear. THE WITCH (CONT’D) Do you understand?! GRETAL screams and says: GRETAL YES! The witch throws the girl to the ground near her brothers cage, and casts her finger. A rich tray of 10 courses appears at GRETAL’s feet. THE WITCH Now eat, eat you worthless trash and feed that one too! Become fat so I may add some life to my bones by eating your pure souls! How I love them so! She begins laughing, leaving the children in the snow, shutting her home door behind them. In the cold, GRETAL feeds HANSEL bits of food through the small hole in the cage door. GRETAL Oh brother! Whatever shall we do!? HANSEL I do not know sister. Usually I always know, but this time I do not know what will become of us. The winter wind beats heavy upon the children and the haunted house. 13. NARRATOR Poor Hansel and GRETAL were left stranded, without a father, mother or witches care for their whereabouts or well-beings. The night ends and sun comes up. GRETAL wakes to a bucket of water being splashed on her. THE WITCH Get up you little mongrel! GRETAL screams and jumps to her feet. The witch twists her ear. HANSEL (shouting in Gretal’s defense) You leave her alone you wicked witch! THE WITCH Quiet! Or your tongue I will have for an appetizer. She turns GRETAL’s face to meet her eyes. THE WITCH (CONT’D) Come! We prepare the fires! GRETAL No! No! No! Hansel! The Witch drags GRETAL into the house. THE WITCH Hurry! I must eat the two of ye before sundown, tis then when me guiding light be delivering a new batch of wee young ones, right to the door of this house. The Witch shoves GRETAL up the porch and into the house. HANSEL (shouting) GRETAL! CUT TO: 14. INT. THE WITCHES KITCHEN The witch drags GRETAL into the kitchen which has returned to its luxury status. The witch is in a moderate appearance, ugly but not as ugly as the night before. She throws GRETAL to the boiler, waving her hand which locks a ball and chain to GRETAL’s foot. The Witch shouts: THE WITCH Start the fire or I’ll eat yer little fingers! A flame fanner is thrown at GRETAL’s feet. GRETAL picks it up frantically and begins sparking a fire. The witch watches GRETAL in disgust, with the same stiff and stoic face, eyes darting with every move as her step-mother did. The witch mutters, moving only her lips, not even her jaws, eyes bulging staring at GRETAL’s little arms and body. THE WITCH (CONT’D) Tell me. In front of the Witch is a bowl of chopped children’s arms and limbs. She stares down at GRETAL, chewing the meat like chips or shrimp. As she does, her appearance, and weight, and beauty begin to reform. THE WITCH (CONT’D) What do children taste like, child? Scared, GRETAL responds; GRETAL I know not fearful witch. THE WITCH Tell me child, did thou not taste the flesh of the boar I fed ye last night? GRETAL Ay miss witch. THE WITCH Twas not the flesh of boar ye bore upon ye innards last night. Twas the flesh of ye young like in kin. Twas the flesh of child such as ye! 15. The witch begins to cackle, GRETAL cries aloud. The witches voice becomes lighter and more angelic, as she digests the bits of children she eats. She licks like a demon the last bit of flesh morsels and blood from the bowl. THE WITCH (CONT’D) Now let me check on that brother of yours, I must be especially beautiful tonight, I have the abandoned children of 2 families on their way through the woods to see me now. She laughs and exits the kitchen. GRETAL begins crying as stokes the fires. CUT TO: EXT. THE GINGERBREAD MANSION The Witch steps outside, takes in a deep breath of air, and burps. The echo of her burp releases the screams and cries of children as a wave of white light spreads throughout the property, transforming it into the decadent wonderland HANSEL and GRETAL had stumbled upon. HANSEL looks outside the bars of his cage, eyes in wonder at the spectacle. THE WITCH (satisfied) There we are. She smiles a great big evil grin, and twists her head toward Hansel’s cage. It cracks and makes a horrifying sound. Her eyes bulge open, her grin reaches past her temples. Her spine cracks-backwards and she begins darting like a spider toward Hansel’s cage. HANSEL screams in fear as the Witch hurdles toward him. CUT TO: INT. INSIDE THE KITCHEN Hansel’s screams echo into the kitchen. GRETAL drops her fan and rises from her knees. GRETAL HANSEL! 16. She begins pacing around the room. GRETAL (CONT’D) What’ll I do! What’ll I do?! She whimpers and begins sobbing, just then within her head she’s hears a young boys voice. LITTLE BOY (inside Gretal’s head) Aye don’t cry! GRETAL lifts her head and looks around the room confused. GRETAL (wiping her tears) Who- Who said that? LITTLE GIRL (in Gretal’s head) We did lass. GRETAL Who- who ye be? LITTLE GIRL We be the souls of the children the witch killed. GRETAL burys her head in her hands, in fear. LITTLE BOY (comforting) Ay! Ay! Listen! We are here to help ye! GRETAL Ye, is? LITTLE GIRL Ay. We will not allow for this witch to destroy the light of children’s purity any longer. LITTLE BOY Come! We must guide you to a solution! With that, GRETAL lifts to her feet and begins frantically searching the kitchen drawers. 17. An exciting and suspenseful track begins to guide a series of shots. CUT TO: EXT. FOREST NIGHT 7 children run entranced, eyes glazed over in blue, through the harsh snow in the forest, guided by the jingling white light of the witch. CUT TO: EXT. WITCHES HOUSE Hansel looks outside the small window of his cage door. A spider like body of the witch rushes past him. He screams and backs into the cage. A strange vocal throat noise is being made by the witch, it grows closer and closer to the door. HANSEL is quiet, as the camera slowly zooms into the doors small window. Just then laughing can be heard inside the cage next to him, and he turns to the witch who grabs him. CUT TO: INT. KITCHEN GRETAL lifts her head from digging in the cabinet, to hear Hansel’s second cry. She gasps, hearing Hansel’s screams moving to the front door. LITTLE BOY (voice over) THERE IT IS! Her eyes widen and she grabs something from the cabinet which we do not see and stuffs it in her boot. She quickly closes the cabinet. She turns around, revealing the witch who stares at her with dead eyes wide open, darting into GRETAL’s soul. THE WITCH What are you doing, Child? GRETAL (stuttering) I- um- I- 18. The Witch lunges at her throat and lifts GRETAL off the ground. The Witches appearance is a hideous monster with Botox features. HANSEL (in despair) GRETAL! GRETAL is choking at the mercy of the witch, who is laughing at the top of her lungs. GRETAL’s legs kick backward, struggling to reach her waist. HANSEL watches the scene in fear, horror, and apprehension, unaware how to help; the witch is so massive in comparison to him. Amongst the chaos a voice chimes into his head. LITTLE BOY The oven! Open the oven! Confused, he speaks to the voice in his head in disbelief. HANSEL What?! LITTLE BOY OPEN THE OVEN NOW! Without a seconds delay or time to process, Hansel’s body involuntarily lunges toward the pantry sized oven, unlocking the arm and pulling open the door. HANSEL (confused, yelling) What are you doing?! CUT TO: GRETAL is still struggling in the witches grasp. Her legs continue to kick back, attempting to reach her hands. Finally, her hand reaches into her boot and grabs a crystal glass whistle, which sparkles, and as it does, the sound of the chime is heard, along with the chorale cry of millions of slain children. LITTLE GIRL (voice over in GRETAL’s head) Do it now! Throw it into the fire! In a slow motion shot, GRETAL chucks the whistle into the open door of the oven. The witches eyes watch as it fly’s toward the fire, and her pupils dilate. 19. Her grasp releases GRETAL’s neck. GRETAL falls to the floor, as the witch lunges past her, chasing after the flying whistle. The Witch screams the collected screams of all those in hell, as the whistle moves over the kitchen, over HANSEL and into the depths of the oven, into the flames of the fire. She leaps over HANSEL and disappears into the flames, the voices of hell ringing from out her mouth. From inside the oven, the witch holds the whistle to her cheek and caresses it like a baby. It has a hold over her, like the ring from Lord of The Rings to Smeagle. The sounds of the men and women of hell are now coo’s, ooo’s and aaa’s caressing the whistle. Harmony. LITTLE BOY (in Hansel’s brain) Now! HANSEL lifts to his feet. The Witch turns around and see’s HANSEL at the door. She let’s out a deafening shrill, fangs exposed, and rushes toward the door at the speed of a jaguar. HANSEL shuts the door, but cannot secure the lock, as the witch attempts to push the door open. He is too weak, and she is gaining entry of the door, pushing it open. GRETAL looks on terrified, frozen in shock as HANSEL was. He cries for her, as the thuds against the door break his speech: HANSEL Gretal! GRETAL!- HELP ME GRETAL! I NEED YOUR HELP GRETAL! The soundtrack builds, cut to shots of the entranced children from the woods approaching the house from a distance. GRETAL looks on at the scene horrified. The camera looks into her face as she stares on confused, scared, and perplexed. THE LITTLE BOY AND GIRL (in GRETAL’s mind) WELL DO SOMETHING! In an instant, GRETAL runs to Hansel’s aid, pushing against the door, and sliding the latch into place. She locks it. The witch bangs and screams and howls, but the door is locked. From the inside, desperate and afraid, she lifts the crystal whistle, which is howling chimes at uncomfortable frequencies. 20. It is vibrating in her hand, she looks at it, her eyes full of desperation and fear as it howls like a kettle and then explodes; obliterating the witch into smithereens. The screams of a million from hell turn into a chorale of children, which burst out from the whistle and fly out from the ovens chimney, bringing life into the forest, and transforming the house back into a candy home, with a newly added auric force-field of protection; which is voiced by the joyous chorale sounds of all the children who lost their lives to the witch. It shimmers over the property, and lights up the center of a vast and dark wood. Outside the home, the newly arrived seven children, awake from their trance, the blue light fading from their eyes. Unaware of where they are and how they arrived, they look at the home in front of them. Excited, they begin laughing and playing and feasting just as HANSEL and GRETAL and all the kids who came before them did, except this time, there would be no witch to eat them. From inside the kitchen, Hansel and GRETAL rise from unconsciousness to the sound of the children playing outside. They follow the laughter to reveal the seven children playing and eating in the front yard. From the top of the force-field guarding the home, the spirits of the Little Boy and Little Girl who helped HANSEL and GRETAL descend down to speak to them. They are both smiling. LITTLE GIRL Thank-you. You saved us. LITTLE BOY Thanks to you, our spirits belong to us again. LITTLE GIRL The witch kept us trapped and enslaved to her whims through that enchanted whistle. LITTLE BOY For thousands of years, we have helplessly watched her devour the children of this land, powerless to stop her, watching her grow more powerful with the more of us she harvested for her evil. LITTLE GIRL Vanity drove her to selling her soul to evil in return for everlasting beauty. 21. LITTLE BOY But she must not have read the fine print, because what she didn’t know was that she had to continue to perform evil to maintain her beauty. LITTLE GIRL We were her first victims. She didn’t want to kill us, but she did to appease the witch to whom she was indebted. When she learned the truth of what she had to do to survive, she slowly died on the inside, and eventually left this body. LITTLE BOY What was left was a shell used by evil to cause harm and suffering on this planet. LITTLE GIRL Indeed. And we waited so long for ones we could speak too. LITTLE BOY Perhaps we were destined to meet in this life. HANSEL Perhaps we were. GRETAL (affirmingly) Perhaps we were! The four children begin to laugh, as the camera zooms out on the festivities taking place at the Gingerbread mansion. NARRATOR And so HANSEL and GRETAL, and all the children; were free to live and play: thrive and survive. Always provided for by protection of the dark, which they transmuted into light. HANSEL and GRETAL went on to turn the candy home into an orphanage for disenfranchised young children, and everyone lived happily, ever after. Everyone, that is except forCUT TO: 22. INT. COTTAGE The camera slowly pans the interior of the children’s old cottage, where they lived with their father and step-mother. The sound of bottles clashing and a hoarse woman grunting can be heard. A meek figure scurries hidden under a large black cloak. NARRATOR Unfortunately for the StepMother... She reaches her arm out shaking, the flesh has fallen off her bones. NARRATOR (CONT’D) Evil was not interested in her vow of service. Ultimately it was decided she would be best martyr’d, by means of having her flesh melt off, to serve as an example that evil favors no one more eager to its cause than itself. The step-mother looks at the camera with pleading eyes, a living skeleton. An iconic “Michael Jackson Thriller” type laugh of the narrator echoes with the fading shot of her despair. A book shuts close on the scene, with the title: Adam Divino’s: Fairytales and The Macabre Theatre
