Romeo and Juliet Creative Choice Assignment DIRECTIONS: Choose ONE of the following assignments to demonstrate your understanding of Romeo and Juliet. After you have chosen your assignment, you will need to let me know which one you are doing. If you are working with a group, I need to know who is in your group. You will present your final product on: DECEMBER 9, 2014 1. BROADWAY PERFORMANCE Choose a group of three (3) to five (5) people and perform a skit of a scene from the play. You will need to create a script. You may choose to use costumes and props, but they are not mandatory. Your script and performance must show your comprehension of the scene as well as demonstrate why certain things happened and how Romeo or Juliet are tragic heroes. NOTE: You will perform this for the class OR shoot it as a video to be shown in class. You will turn in the script. 2. HOLLYWOOD STORYBOARD This can be done on your own or with a group of no more than three (3) people. You have been hired to pitch this story to executives at Paramount Studios (represented by the class and me!) who have never read the play. Your assignment is to bring the plot of the play to life through storyboard illustrations—one per act. You may modernize it if you wish. You will also have to create an ideal cast of actors to play the main parts. You want the studio to invest millions of dollars in making this story into a movie, so you have to really bring it to life. Underneath each illustration, you will need to write a brief description for that particular scene, and under each actor’s headshot, briefly say why he/she should be cast. NOTE: You will present this to the class. You will turn in the storyboards. 3. ORIGINAL SONG On your own or with one (1) partner, write and perform an original song (music should be included) telling the story of the play. Be sure to include what might be learned from our star-crossed lovers. Your song should have at least 3 main verses and a refrain. NOTE: You will perform this for the class. You will turn in the original song. 4. THE NURSE TELLS ALL! This assignment is to be done on your own. Put yourself in the shoes of the Nurse and write a tell-all article (at least 500 words) for the local check-out line paper from her point of view. You must include a retelling of the story you from the Nurse’s POV, as well as the lesson that your readers should take away from this tale. What is the moral of the story? NOTE: You will not need to read this to the class. You will turn in the article.
