Go-kart
history & importance

A go-kart is a type of open-wheel car.

Used for = Recreational
indoor karts
Go Kart History. Karting is form of racing in a small
four-wheel vehicle know as a go kart. In the
beginning, the first-ever go kart was created in Los
Angeles by Art Ingels in 1956. The first official
organized race took place with a several dozen of
home-built machines in 1957 in the parking lot of the
famed Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
INTRODUCTION
DESIGN OF FRAME

TUBULER SPACE FRAME
A space frame or space structure is a truss-like, lightweight rigid structure
constructed from interlocking struct in a geometric pattern
ADVANTAGE:
-> ISO METRIC STRENGTH(compare
with ladder chassis and
monocoque chassis of the
same weight)
DISADVANTAGE:
->Very complex, costly and
time consuming.
->Impossible to robotized
production.
->Difficulty in accessing to the
cabin.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
INTRODUCTION AND REQUIREMENT
->Engine is the heart of vehicle and optimum pumping of heart defines the performance of
vehicle.
->CVT( CONTINOUS VARIABLE TRANSMISSION) engine was selected because of its
robust build quality and it is easy to couple with various type of transmission.
->The most suitable range under 135cc engine 168f-1 of 127cc is selected to achieve a robust
and reliable transmission. it is easy to assemble vehicle with this engine and it takes less
space and this engine is efficient to work within 40-50 kmph speed.
->Power is transmitted from engine sprocket to rear axle sprocket by means of chain. final
drive ration is adapted to the track configuration in order to get most from engine.
->Our requirement is to achieve maximum work output from engine and transmission.
Centrifugal clutch
-> It uses centrifugal force to connect two concentric shafts, with
the driving shaft nested inside the driven shaft. It engages more at
higher speeds
Uses
•keep the internal combustion engine from stalling
when the output shaft is slowed or stopped abruptly
•disengage loads when starting and idling
BRAKING SYSTEM
Introduction-hydraulically operated
disc brake
•
A COMMON MISCONCEPTION ABOUT BRAKES IS THAT BRAKES
SQUEEZE AGAINST A DRUM OR DISC, AND THE PRESSURE OF THE
SQUEEZING ACTION SLOWS THE VEHICLE DOWN. THIS IS IN FACT A
PART OF THE REASON FOR SLOWING DOWN A VEHICLE.

•ACTUALLY BRAKES USE FRICTION OF BRAKE SHOES AND DRUMS TO
CONVERT KINETIC ENERGY DEVELOPED BY THE VEHICLE INTO HEAT
ENERGY.

•WHEN WE APPLY BRAKES, THE PADS OR SHOES THAT PRESS AGAINST
THE BRAKE DRUMS OR ROTOR CONVERT KINETIC ENERGY INTO
THERMAL ENERGY VIA FRICTION.
Disc Brakes:
Disc Brakes are comprised of a disc or
rotor, a calliper assembly, disc brake pads
and the wheel bearings and hardware
necessary to mount the components on the
vehicle. The calliper is connected to the
master cylinder through tubes, hoses and
valves that conduct brake fluid through the
system.
hydraulic brakes:Pumping brakes are often used
where a pump is already part of the
machinery. For example, an internalcombustion piston motor can have the fuel
supply stopped, and then internal pumping
losses of the engine create some braking.
Some engines use a valve override called
a Jake brake to greatly increase pumping
losses. Pumping brakes can dump energy as
heat, or can be regenerative brakes that
recharge a pressure reservoir called
a hydraulic accumulator.
principle of working
* Hydraulics is the use of a liquid under pressure to
transfer force or motion, or to increase an applied
force.
The pressure on a liquid is called HYRAULIC
PRESSURE.
And the brakes which are operated by means of
hydraulic pressure are called HYDRAULIC BRAKES.
These brakes are based on the principle of
Pascal’s law.
Go-kart Steering introduction
Steering important Part of manufacturing of go-kart,with the help of
steering We can Change the direction of our vehicle in right or left
direction.
The steering system is designed to withstand the stress of safely
mneuvering the vehicle through any type of possible condition at the
time os driving. The purpose of the steering system is to provide
directional control of the vehicle with minimum input.
The main goal of steering is to have steering radius of 4m or less and to
have 100% steering
Selection
The material of go-kart for steering is important selection. We have to choose
those material which can resist more load, good toughness and hardness, more
ultimate tesile strength. The material should not break by sudden impact load,
also the material cost for go-kart should be minimum, for go-kart we used AISI
1020 material which contains all the properties that we need to manufacture
of our go-kart.
Application & advantage
Superior cornering stability
Straight line stability at high speed
Parking, junctions, gentle curve
Fabrication
Fabrication refers to making end products for use or sale from raw materials,
either by hand or with the help of machines. Fabrication refers to making raw
materials usable for manufacturing. Production is the process of making
(manufacturing or fabricating) or growing goods for use or sale.

Components:
Steering wheel
Tie rod with tie rod ends
Spindle brackets with kingpin holes
RH & LH (right and left hand)

Steering is the collection of components, linkages, etc. Which allows any vehicle
to follow the desired course. The primary function of steering is to allow the driver
to guide the vehicle.
The steering arrangement is to turn the front wheels using a hand operated
steering wheel which is positioned in front of the driver, via steering column.
Parts of steering fabrication
tie rod

A tie rod transmits force from the steering center link or the rack gear to the
steering knuckle. This will cause the wheel to turn. The outer tie rod end
connects with an adjusting sleeve, which allows length of the tie rod to be
adjustable. This adjustment is used to set a vehicles alignment angle
Steering Wheel hub

Steering wheel hub connects the vehicle to the tie rod. It also provides the
stable position to the wheel
Bush

Bush is a mechanical device to absorb Impact or to provide stability between
supporting joints.
Steering column
Steering column is a shaft that connects the steering wheel of the vehicle to the
rest of the steering mechanism.

Fabrication

The whole go kart steering assembly is done by us and with the help of tools.

We use two wheel steering system in simple go kart vehicles.
