Now that you have revisited chapter 6 to analyze Twain’s use of satire during
Pap’s government speech, you will read a piece of literary criticism that
discusses the significance of this passage. Your task is to read and annotate
the article, “The Significance of Pap’s Drunken Diatribe Against the
Government in Huckleberry Finn” by Edward Piacentino and use this criticism
to write a constructed response that addresses the following:
How does Twain use Pap’s character as a tool to ridicule the society in which
he lived?
