Establishing Context for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Assignment: Working with your group, you will explore the context of and develop background
knowledge for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Together, we want to be able to
answer the 5 W’s regarding its setting, writing, and publication. Below are the topics:
Who: The Biography of Mark Twain (pink)
What: Historical Fiction (green)
When: The Reconstruction and Gilded Age (yellow)
Where: Slavery in America (orange)
Why: To be determined… 
1. Begin by reading your assigned article and answering the questions (this will show me
you’ve read and understood the text).
2. Create a five slide PowerPoint presentation to teach your classmates about your topic.
3. You may use any information from the article. You may also go beyond the article and
conduct some research of your own, but any information, including pictures or videos you
use, must be cited.
Example:
Authors last name, author’s first name. “Title of Web Page.” Title of website, URL.
Lundman, Susan. "How to Make Vegetarian Chili."
eHow, www.ehow.com/how_10727_make-vegetarian-chili.html.
4. You may not have more than 10 words per slide, so be sure you are knowledgeable on your
topic and can speak on it without reading off of your PowerPoint.
5. Everyone in your group is required to speak.
Grading:
5 slides – 10 pts.
All information is accurate and cited – 10 pts.
You have presented – 10 pts.
