1. Prom This track is simply about not being able to mature as quickly as your partner. SZA refers to the essence of one of the biggest events in high school, the prom, because she said she just needed a little bit of time to get into the hype. She sings, “promise to get a little better as I get older and you’re so patient and sick of waitin’ She feels the rush of growing up and maturing and isn’t quite ready to do so. In this song, she expresses that her partner shouldn’t take it personal, that she just isn’t ready to move to the next step. 2. Go Gina Go Gina is about living a fun and enjoyable life. It came to me as an overthinking track. People in SZA’s life were telling her if she didn’t work so much she could have more leisure time. However, she feels like she can have the best of both worlds. Life is a balance beam, but you have to move forward while yearning for said balance. You can work hard and play even harder, it’s up to you to focus and reward yourself. 3. The Weekend A slow tempo, a beat that flows through the soul, and the unique vocals from SZA create the Billboard top one hundred hit, The Weekend. Whether it’s the content of the verses or the calming sway of the chorus, everyone sings this song with their entire heart. The Weekend is what we call a “side chick anthem” because SZA is telling us that she is indulging in lustful acts with someone else’s significant other. This song resonates through the current generation so much because cheating seems to be the norm and people don’t seem to care if “my man is my man is your man heard it’s her man too.” 4. Wavy (Interlude) Wavy, a song that should’ve been longer because the beat takes you on a trip through the galaxies, catching constellations on the way. This track touches the subject of how waiting for someone can possibly hurt you in the end. Wavy hints at being in an unstable situation and how it could be detrimental to the growth of people in relationships. It ultimately provides a solution which is leaving the toxic person/relationship. She acknowledges the yearn for escape when she says, “You know just taking it slow baby somebody show me the door baby.” 5. Supermodel A track full of vulnerability, insecurity, and vengeance is what Supermodel embodies. SZA reminisces about a relationship that ended because of her significant other’s infidelity and she discusses how she got revenge on him. She said that she herself wasn’t being faithful in their relationship because she was secretly having sex with one of his friends on Valentine’s Day. Because having intercourse with someone to get over another person isn’t healthy neither does it help with the pain that she must have felt, she expresses how she felt vulnerable and lost because her previous partner left her alone. She felt that he left her alone because she wasn’t pretty enough, strong enough, nor confident enough. She could be all that he needed and more if she just gave them a chance. 6. Love Galore (feat. Travis Scott) Love Galore’s house music feel gives this track a bounce that cannot be compared to any other song on this album. SZA gives insight into the harsh reality of getting played by a person. Even though the person may be playing her, he genuinely enjoys her company, time, and affection. 7. Pretty Little Birds This mellow shows an evolution. This evolution means growing, learning, and helping other along the way. Solana realizes that we are all human and make mistakes in life, but whether or not you choose to learn from those experiences is dependent upon you. Her significant other want to love her and accept her flaws as she will accept his flaws. They are both willing to fall in love with each other in their entirety because they are still growing and learning –hopefully together.
