War
at Sea

What was war at sea like.
-War at sea was hectic. On may 7 1915 the cruise ship
Lusitania was torpedoed by a German U-boat. 1,198
people were killed including 128 Americans. The
recklessness of German submarine warfare was an
influence on the United States decision to join the
Allies in 1917.
Weapons used/boats used
- The weapons they used at sea consisted of : Torpedoes, mines,
Destroyers and submarines
-The weapons used caused a lot of chaos.
-The ships that were used in ww1 were: the Dreadnoughts, Battle
cruisers, Pre dreadnought battleships, Coastal defense ships,
Protected cruisers, Light cruisers, and Torpedo boats.
Their duties on board :)
-There
-Men who were skilled in routine
deck duties had more than 2
years of experience on board.But
men who had less than a 2 year
experience were called
‘’landsmen’’ or “ordinary
seaman”.
would also be engineers on
board that would look after the
ships engine and also a captain to
command the ship and tell
everyone what to do.
What they wore
-They wore clothes that protected them, such as
a sheet cape (long strips of cloth worn from
ankle to knee). Also boots and a helmet.
-It was important for them to wear this because it
was slightly damp and what they wore wasnt
always enough because it was slightly damp.
