1. Review vocabulary words:
Resources: anything a country or person has that can help it prosper
Human Resources: the knowledge and special skills that people possess
Natural Resources: naturally occurring resources that people depend on for survival, e.g., water, food,
trees, minerals, etc.
Renewable Resources: A resource that potentially cannot be used up because it is constantly
replenished or replaced. Either it comes from a limitless source (such as solar energy or water), or
natural or human-devised regrowth processes can renew it, as long as it is not used up faster than it is
renewed.
Sustainable: refers to a renewable resource that is used at a slower rate than the resource can replace
itself.
Non-Renewable Resource: natural resources that can be used up either completely or else to such a
degree that it becomes worthless (e.g., coal, crude oil, metal ores)
Ecological Footprint: a measure of total human impact on an ecosystem, determined by calculating
how much land is needed to support a person's lifestyle.
