CE 416 GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING 1: FOUNDATION ENGINEERING (CE – 4204) Laboratory Report No. 1 (Pre-lab) TRIAXIAL SHEAR TEST Lab. Date: February 1, 2019 Lab. Group: Group 3 Lab Members: Banadera, John Francis Cuenca, Denise Ann D. Gaba, Jose Henderson Mayuga, Katrina Nicole I. INTRODUCTION The triaxial shear test is one of the most reliable methods available for determining the shear strength parameters. It is widely used for both research and conventional testing. The test is considered reliable for it provides information on the stressstrain behavior of the soil that the direct shear test does not. It also provides more uniform stress conditions than the direct shear test does with its stress concentration along the failure plane. This test also provides more flexibility in terms of loading path that can replicate site conditions and does provide rational interpretation using the Mohr’s circle. II.
