Conjunctions and prepositions
The following words have the same meaning but are used in
different ways:
although/even though/despite/in spite of
ALTHOUGH and EVEN THOUGH are conjunctions. This
means that they join two full sentences together.
DESPITE and IN SPITE OF are prepositions. This means
they are followed by a noun or a gerund.

Turning prepositions into conjunctions
You can also use prepositions as conjunctions by
adding the phrase ‘the fact that’
Despite the fact that the job was challenging, I
