Language – Explanation
For the following few weeks, your students will work through the common core standards for Language.
Every day, your students work through one standard (or part of one standard) by reviewing a sample
question and answer and then by answering a few questions on their own. All of the common core
standards were taken directly from the Common Core Standard website at www.corestandards.org.
Each day’s bellringer will help to remove some of the mystery associated with the common core
standards by:
•
•
•
Addressing one common core standard each day. The standard is only on the teacher’s edition;
the student’s edition contains a place to write notes or things to remember as they work
through that standard.
Providing one sample question with the answer as a way to illustrate the common core standard
at work. This sample problem is on both the teacher and the student version.
Offering several questions for the student to work through every day. The bellringers contain
only a few questions each day – enough for the student to be exposed to the standard but not
too many to take away time from the lesson of the day. The teacher’s edition includes all
answers.
Don’t be stressed about the upcoming transition to the common core standards. These bellringers will
clarify your specific standards and provide an opportunity for your students to be exposed to them
throughout the year.
