This study was primarily conducted to assess the Social
Science Instruction at the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College,
Tagudin Campus during the School Year 2008-2009.
Specifically, it answers the following sub-problems:
1. What
is
the
profile
of
the
instructors
and
student-
respondents in terms of the following:
a. Age
b. Sex
c. Educational Qualification
d. Length of Service (for instructors)
e. Eligibility (for instructors)
f. Training/In-service attended (for instructors)
2. What is the level of usage and relative effectiveness of
the
following
approaches
as
applied
in
Social
Science
Subjects?
a. Method and Techniques
b. Instructional Materials
c. Problems Encountered
3. Is
there
usage
and
a
significant
effectiveness
perceived by the
difference
of
the
between
following
the
level
of
variables
as
1. Profile
a. Majority of the Instructor-respondents belong to the
older generation of college instructors.
b. Student-respondents are young the young students whose
ages are really with the college requirements.
c. Male instructors dominated in number as compared to
females.
d. Student-respondents are generally females.
2. On Educational qualification
a. Most
of
the
Instructor-respondents
are
MA/MS
graduates with failed of specialization along social
sciences.
b. Students-respondents
are
now
enrolled
in
social
science subjects
3. On the Length of Service
a. Majority of the Instructor-respondents are in the
service for more than 5 years.

sometimes rating by the instructors.
b. Student-respondents rated the use of those variable

7. On Problems Considered
Majority of the problems were classified as “Serious”
by the Instructors and the student respondents.
8. On the Test of Difference
There was no significant difference between the levels
of usage and effectiveness as perceived by the two groups
of respondents.
a. Instructor-respondents are old enough to function as
teachers in social science subjects.
b. Students-respondents are bonafide enrollees of social
science courses.
c. Instructor-respondents

requirement for a college instructor.

Based on the findings and conclusions drawn from this study
the following recommendations are endorsed;
i. Young instructors should be motivated to study further
in the graduate school, they should be given enough
time
and
schedule
to
pursue
their
graduate
studies
without jeopardizing their responsibilities to their
students.
If possible, scholarship must be open so that they can
comply with the
requirements
of
R.A.

j. Equity in the distribution of opportunities to attend
in-service training must be considered. There must be
transparent schedule of attendance of instructors In
different levels of training so that everybody will
have the chance to the outside world” of the academe.
k. Sub-professional passers should be encouraged to the
examination
suited
to
their
position
as
college
instructors. A time frame for them to pass must be
agreed upon so that commitment can be instilled.
A similar study is recommended but of different groups of
respondents which should include the members of the sectoral
community
such
as
parents
and
administrators
covering
the
different satellite schools of the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State
College.
