FAQs on the LLQP Course
1. Does FSCO recommend or endorse any particular LLQP course?
No. All qualifying LLQP courses have been approved by the Superintendent of Financial
Services (Superintendent) and are considered acceptable for licensing purposes.
2. How does FSCO know if an LLQP course is acceptable? Are certain LLQP courses not
acceptable for licensing purposes?
Potential LLQP course providers must first seek accreditation from the Canadian Insurance
Services Regulatory Organizations (CISRO)
. Once they have obtained this accreditation,
they must then get approval from each province or territory in which they wish to offer the
course.
FSCO reviews submissions from course providers that want to offer an LLQP training course
in Ontario. To learn about these requirements, read the web page on how to obtain approval
to offer an LLQP training course in Ontario. FSCO considers various factors, including whether
the course appears to adequately prepare students for the licensing exam, and whether the
policies and procedures for the course are fair. CISRO will monitor the exam results for each
course provider on an ongoing basis, to identify any issues.
Only courses that have been approved by FSCO's Superintendent will qualify you to write the
LLQP exam. Visit the web page on how to become a life or accident and sickness insurance
agent for a list of course providers. FSCO's approval of an LLQP course can be revoked at any
time, in which case the course provider will be removed from the list on FSCO's website.
3. What impact did the update of the LLQP exam (as of January 2016) have on LLQP
qualifying courses?
New LLQP courses have been developed to prepare students to write the updated LLQP exam.
If you completed an LLQP course based on the exam that was offered until December 31,
2015, and did not pass the LLQP exam before December 31, 2015, you will need to take the
updated LLQP course in order to take the updated LLQP exam.
FAQs on the LLQP Exam
4. Can I book an LLQP exam before I complete the LLQP course?
Yes. Candidates in Ontario may book an LLQP exam before completing an LLQP course.
However, this is not recommended. Exam fees are not refundable, and you will not be
allowed to write the LLQP exam if you have not successfully completed the LLQP course at
least one week before your scheduled exam.
5. My LLQP course expires before I am eligible to write the LLQP exam. Can I get an
extension?
No. If your LLQP course has expired, you will not be allowed to write the LLQP exam. You
must successfully complete the LLQP course again before you can write the LLQP exam.
6. If I complete one or more modules of a qualifying LLQP training course, but not the
entire course, may I write the LLQP exam for each of those modules?
No. You must complete the entire qualifying LLQP course before you attempt to write any of
the LLQP exam modules. However, in Ontario, you may book your exams before you
complete the entire course (see question 4 above).

7. If I pass the LLQP exam, how long does it remain valid for licensing purposes?
Candidates are allowed one year from their first successful attempt at a required exam
module to apply for a licence, regardless of when the other required modules were
successfully written. For example, if your first successful attempt at a required module was in
March 2016, you would have until March 2017 to complete the other required modules and
apply for a licence.
8. I completed the LLQP training course that was based on the exam that was offered
until December 2015. To date, I have not successfully completed the LLQP exam.
Can I write the updated LLQP exam that became effective on January 1, 2016?
No. In order to write the updated LLQP exam, you must complete the updated LLQP training
course. Please refer to FSCO's web page on how to become a life or accident and sickness
insurance agent for a list of course providers who offer the updated LLQP course.
9. I passed the LLQP exam prior to January 1, 2016. Did the former exam
administrator (Serco DES Inc.) provide FSCO with my exam results?
Serco DES Inc. provided FSCO exam results for all exams that were passed on or before
December 31, 2015. LLQP marks are valid for licensing purposes for one year from the date
you successfully complete the LLQP exam.
10. Before January 1, 2016, the LLQP rewrite rules required that I wait six months
before I was eligible to write the LLQP exam for the fourth time. Since my waiting
period expired after December 31, 2015 will I be allowed to write the old (preJanuary 2016) LLQP exam?
No. You will need to take the updated LLQP training course and write the updated LLQP
exam. The old LLQP exam is no longer offered.
