SOLAR ENERGY PRESENTED BY : Aly Ibrahim Aly Mostafa Instructor: Ahmed El-Wardany Egypt Japan University Of Science And Technology ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION The spectrum of solar energy is quite wide and its intensity varies according to the timing of the day and geographic location. Solar energy is energy provided by the sun in the form of solar radiation and it is the world’s most abundant permanent source of energy. The amount of solar energy intercepted by the planet Earth is a tiny fraction of the solar radiation emitted by the sun. However, even that tiny amount is 5000 times greater than the sum of all other inputs (nuclear, geothermal, and gravitational energies and lunar gravitational energy). We review solar energy conversion into electricity with particular emphasis on photovoltaic systems, solar cells and how to store electricity. And we will talk about what is the solar panel (photovoltaic), what is the composition of the PV, How the solar panels (PV) work, The world power generation, Employment by technology, Egypt production of solar energy and the future of Egypt after building Benban solar bark the largest station in the world which will provide more than 10,000 job opportunities over four years and the total production capacity of the project might reach 2,000 megawatts. Solar energy is a renewable resource and it is becoming increasingly common that this energy is converted and used as an alternative to fossil fuels. HOW DOES PV WORK • The sun's light is absorbed by the solar panels. • The silicon and conductors in the panel convert the light into Direct Current (DC) electricity, which then flows into the inverter. Solar is represent a low percentage of the production of Renewable energy in Egypt. It is expected that by 2022 solar energy will represent 2% of renewable energy in Egypt • The inverter converts the DC into Alternate Current (AC) electricity, which is used in your home. • Any additional electricity that's not used by your home goes via your home's meter into the mains power grid for others to use. • Electricity is drawn from the grid when you need more power than your solar energy system produces. As in figure 3. Solar panel electricity systems, known as photovoltaics (PV), capture the sun's energy using photovoltaic cells. These cells don't need direct sunlight to work they can still generate some electricity on a cloudy day. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household appliances and lighting. : Egypt's production in solar energy Figure 3. WORLED POWER GENERATION Egypt building a solar power station in Aswan (Benban solar park), which is the largest station in the world, where will generate the equivalent of 90% of the energy produced from the dam. And the total production capacity of the project might reach 2,000 M/watts. And the project would provide more than 10,000 job opportunities over four years, with priority to city’s inhabitants. Figure 1. COMPOSITION Figure 4. • • • • The top layer is usually glass with improved characteristics. POE - Poly Olefine Elastomer is used to hold the cells and in fact the entire framework together. Solar cells are sandwiched between two POE layers. The bottom most part of the module can be backsheet or glass depending on the kind of module. As in figure 2.
