Configuring an Activity Guide in PeopleSoft 9.2
Activity Guides provide users with a list of tasks that need to be completed for a specific
process, such as the on-boarding of a new employee or benefits enrollment. Activity Guides
were made available with PeopleTools version 8.53. Oracle delivered several activity guides in
PeopleSoft HCM and provided the tools for customers to modify the delivered activity guides, as
well as create new activity guides. This blog discusses how to create a new Activity Guide. The
example used in this blog is a very simple 3-step Activity Guide containing 2 pages and a
query. No technical customizations were needed for this Activity Guide.
HIGH-LEVEL STEPS FOR CONFIGURING AN ACTIVITY GUIDE :
1. Determine the tasks to be completed by the users and the order of the tasks.
2. Determine whether task groupings exist—that is, summary tasks serve as parents to
detailed tasks.
3. Determine which PeopleSoft component (transaction) corresponds to each task.
Alternatively, a task can be associated with a PeopleSoft query, a non-PeopleSoft URL or a
process.
4. Create the Related Content Services for these tasks.
5. Create the activity guide template:
a. Configure Template Properties
b. Configure Action Items
c. Publish as Pagelet
d. Configure WorkCenter
CONFIGURATION
Step 1:
Determine the tasks to be completed by the users and the order of the tasks.
For this example, we’re only going to create 3 steps:
1. Precalc Audit Report
2. Paycalc
3. Query PY_RETRO_ANALYSIS
Step 2:
Determine whether task groupings exist—that is, summary tasks serve as parents to
detailed tasks.
For this example, we’re not going to create summary tasks.
Step 3:
Determine which PeopleSoft component (transaction) corresponds to each task.
Alternatively, a task can be associated with a PeopleSoft query, a non-PeopleSoft
URL or a process.
