What is ethics?
At its simplest, ethics is a system of moral principles. They affect how people make decisions and lead their lives. It is concerned with what is good for individuals and society and is also described as moral philosophy. Ethical beliefs shape the way we live – what we do, what we make and the world we create through our choices.
Ethical questions explore what Aristotle called 'a life well-lived'.
The term is derived from the Greek word ethos which can mean custom, habit, character or disposition.
Ethics isn't just an exercise for philosophers or intellectuals. It is at the core of everyday life.
We ask ethical questions whenever we think about how we should act. Being ethical is a part of what defines us as human beings. We are rational, thinking, choosing creatures. We all have the capacity to make conscious choices – although we often act out of habit or in line with the views of the crowd. We could all make conscious and conscientious ethical choices if we wanted to.
Ethics covers the following dilemmas:
how to live a good life
our rights and responsibilities
the language of right and wrong
moral decisions - what is good and bad?
Approaches to ethics
Philosophers nowadays tend to divide ethical theories into three areas: metaethics, normative ethics and applied ethics.
Meta-ethics deals with the nature of moral judgement. It looks at the origins and meaning of ethical principles.
Normative ethics is concerned with the content of moral judgements and the criteria for what is right or wrong.
Applied ethics looks at controversial topics like war, animal rights and capital punishment

Why do you think there should be ethics in communication?
Ethics in communication or ethical communication is the application of good principles of man to the way he interacts to others. There should be ethics in communication for him to convey the right message to another. When emotions and culture are taken into consideration, the dignity and value of the receiver will be uplifted. Sometimes, due to unethical communication the message to be delivered could be misinterpreted. In the workplace for instance, when a coworker is offended by a message, he may take it personally instead of professionally. This may bring bad feedback, bias and/or prejudice to the one who delivered the message. The ripple effects of immoral communication could be painful and harsh not only to the receiver but also to the deliverer of the message. Hence, the importance of ethical communication is not just for casual encounters but most especially in the professional academe conversations.
What problems can arise when people are not ethical in their communication practices?
Many problems arise due to ethical misconduct during different communication practices. The way people talk is ruled largely by their environment, culture, family values and to some degree, the media. Modern society is becoming disinterested in proper behavior which is magnified by the what they see on TV, there appears to be a willingness to offend other people which may be supported by the phrase “ I’m just keeping it real “.
When regular people do not use good manners when communicating, anything from an argument to a physical fight can happen. When political leaders from different countries do the same thing, the effects may be would be worse, from severing diplomatic ties, sanctions, trade wars even military conflicts.
There is nothing positive about being rude, people should just go back to the much ignored practice of respect when speaking to another person.
