Children’s Book Project
Your task is to teach children about your topic. You are going to write a children’s book
to explain what it is, how it works, and why it is important.
You must plan and write a children’s book.
• Must be at least 20 pages.
• Must include:
1. What your topic is
2. How your topic works
3. Calculations that are important to your topic
4. Illustrations and pictures related to your topic
5. At least 2 reasons why knowing about your topic is important
Suggestions:
1. Write a rough draft of all text and submit for feedback.
2. Produce an outline.
a. Decide what words and what pictures will be on each page. Decide where
the pictures and the words will be placed.
3. Compose the final draft.
a. Minimum: 20 pages, with text and pictures on each page.
4. Write to the correct audience.
a. Language for children
b. Don’t talk down to your readers
c. You are creating a book that will be read to children of these ages, not read
by them. Therefore, you can use “bigger” words.
5. Create the illustrations
a. Draw your own pictures but NOT stick people.
b. Use pictures from the internet.
c. Use pictures from the clip art file.
d. Use pictures from coloring books.
e. Use pictures from magazines.
f. Take your own photos
g. Other????
6. Design the other pages
a. Front of book includes:
i. Cover—title, author, picture
b. Each page should have text & an image
c. Back cover should be decorated
