An introduction to workshop safety. Students will learn how to safely use essential
hand tools and machinery by making a personalised post it note/pencil holder.
An introduction to material classifications and fixing methods.
Students will learn about different types of materials (Natural timbers,
manufactured boards and polymers) and how these materials can be fixed together
by making a hand held ball bearing maze.
Tangram Puzzle
An introduction to structures and forces. Students will learn about the different
types of structure and the forces that act upon them by making a simple catapult.

Map Skills – An introduction to symbols, four and six figure
grid references, height and how to use a range of maps.
Festivals – A study of major UK festivals such as
Glastonbury, by using map skills gained above
Use any map at home (such as a road atlas) to practice
directions, symbols, grid references and identifying
settlements.
Pupils can research locations of other major music
festivals.

Pupils can use publications such as the Evening Telegraph

such as rivers and mountains.
Pupils can practice recording aspects of the weather at
home through observation and watch TV weather

Pupils can watch TV programmes (documentary style) that
