DIVISION 26
GROUNDING AND BONDING
FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
PART 1 - GENERAL
01.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A.
Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions
and Division 01 Specification sections, apply to work of this Section.
B.
Division 26 Basic Materials and Methods sections apply to work of this Section.
01.02 DESCRIPTION OF WORK
A.
All metallic raceways, supports, cabinets and non-current carrying parts of equipment shall be
grounded in accordance with the National Electric Code. The grounding system shall be as
defined in the Code.
B.
The equipment ground shall be continuous throughout the electrical system. Where flexible metal
conduit, liquid tight flexible metal conduit, are provided, or where conductors are installed in other
than metallic raceways, an equipment grounding conductor shall be installed.
C.
The grounding system is existing.
D.
A separate ground conductor shall be installed to all branch circuits. Ground conductor shall run
from panelboard ground bus to device/equipment ground lug, one ground conductor per homerun.
E.
Requirements of this Section apply to electrical grounding work specified elsewhere in these
Specifications.
01.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A.
Manufacturers: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of electrical connectors, terminals and
fittings, of types and ratings required, and ancillary grounding materials, including stranded cable,
copper braid and bus, ground rods and plate electrodes.
B.
NEC Compliance: Comply with NEC Article 250 requirements as applicable to materials and
installation of electrical grounding systems, associated equipment and wiring. Provide grounding
products which are listed and labeled by a nationally recognized testing laboratory.
C.
UL Compliance: Comply with applicable requirements of UL Standards Nos. 467 and 869
pertaining to electrical grounding and bonding.
D.
IEEE Compliance: Comply with applicable requirements of IEEE Standard 142 and 241
pertaining to electrical grounding.
01.04 SHOP DRAWINGS
A.
Product Data: Submit manufacturer's data on grounding systems and accessories.
01.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A.
Handle electrical grounding accessories and components carefully to avoid damage; store in
original wrappings and protect from dirt and weather.

GROUNDING AND BONDING
FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
02.01 GROUNDING SYSTEMS
A.
Materials and Components: Except as otherwise indicated, provide electrical grounding systems;
with assembly of materials, including, but not limited to, cables/wires, connectors, terminals
(solderless lugs), grounding rods/electrodes, bonding jumpers and additional accessories needed
for complete installation. Where materials or components are not indicated, provide products
complying with NEC, UL, IEEE, and established industry standards for applications indicated.
B.
Bonding Jumper Braid: Copper braided tape, constructed of 30-gauge bare copper wires and
properly sized for indicated applications.
C.
Bonding Plates, Connectors, Terminals and Clamps: Burndy Hyground Irreversible Compression
System, Cadweld, or approved substitution.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
03.01 INSPECTION
A.
Installer must examine areas and conditions under which electrical grounding connections are to
be made and notify contractor in writing of conditions detrimental to proper completion of work.
Do not proceed with work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a manner
acceptable to Installer.
03.02 INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL GROUNDING
A.
General: Install electrical grounding systems where shown, in accordance with applicable
portions of NEC, with NECA's "Standard of Installation," and in accordance with recognized
industry practices to ensure that products comply with requirements and service intended
functions.
B.
Coordinate with other electrical work as necessary to interface installation of electrical grounding
system with other work.
C.
Install braided type bonding jumpers with ground clamps on water piping electrically bypass water
meters and valves.
D.
Install clamp-on connectors only on thoroughly cleaned metal contact surfaces, to ensure
electrical conductivity and circuit integrity.
E.
Grounding electrode system connections of conductors to grounding electrodes, splices in
conductors and connections of conductors to structural systems, and other such connections,
shall be made with high compression fittings using a hydraulic compressing tool or exothermic
welding process. Make connections in compliance with manufacturer's instructions.
