Thermal 1 :
2:00-2:30 : Presentation on overview of Thermal Sciences
2:30-3:45 : Films on Thermal Systems
4:00-5:00 :Visit to Fluid Mechanics lab: Hydraulic Turbines and Pumps
HW : Sheet on comparative assessment of energy consumption in different modes of
transport
Thermal 2 :
2.00-2.45 : Paper toys from Arvind Gupta's books
2:45-4:00: Visit to the Thermal Science & Turbomachinery lab. Systems to see : IC
engine models and actual engines, refrigerator and airconditioner, compressor,
blower, pump, gas turbine engine.
4.00-5.00 : Temperature measurement covering a wide range (Low temp in
refrigerators, liquid air, high temp of oil used for frying, engine exhaust, water used
for bathing, flame temperatures); Studying some systems involving heating and temp
control.
2.00-2.45: Discussion on HW given in session 9
3.00-4.00: Assy/Disassy : Battery-operated toys and the DC motors used there, AC
motor in the pump of a desert cooler, non-battery toys.
4.00-5.00: Visit to the Central Library, Discussion
