Read and follow all safety instructions in this manual precisely to avoid unsafe operating conditions, fire, explosion, property damage, personal injury, or death. Keep this manual for future reference. Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in severe injury or death. Indicates a potentially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result in property damage. 3 Remote Controller LCD display LED indicator Indicates functions and current status. Indicates the status of water heater. - Green: Normal Mode. - Red: Error occurred. Timer button Lock button Access the timer settings. Locks the other button operations. Up button Power button Increase the temperature or value. Turns the remote controller on or off. Down button OK button Decrease the temperature or value. 4 LCD Display Icons Timer is set. Recirculation Mode. Displays the current time. Hot water is in use. Displays the currently set temperature. Combusting is in progress. Operations are locked. An error code will appear on the display. Operating in energy saving mode. 5 Turning the Controller On or Off To turn the controller on or off, press the Power button. When the power is on, t The LCD display turns on. t The LED indicator turns green. t Hot water temperature is displayed. Note t When an error occurs, the LED indicator turns RED and blinks (except for Cascade mode). t The backlight stays on for 8 seconds on every button pressing. 6 Setting the water temperature Adjusting the temperature differs depending on the DIP switch settings. Level 1: 98~120°F (36~50°C) t Press the Up or Down button to adjust the temperature. The temperature changes by 1°F (0.5°C). Level 2: 120~140°F (50~60°C) t Press and hold the Up button for 2 seconds to increase the temperature by 5°F (2°C). or t Press the Down button temperature by 5°F (2°C). to adjust the t To save setting, press the OK button. Note While using hot water, setting the water temperature is available only up to 110°F (43°C). Water above 110°F (43°C) can cause instant scalding or severe burns. t For temperatures between 140°F (60°C) and 182°F (83°C), check the High temperature mode in the next section. t The settings are automatically saved when you do not press any buttons for 5 seconds. 7 Entering High Temperature Mode (Commercial Mode) 1 2 5 sec 10 sec Press and hold the Up and Down button simultaneously for 10 seconds. t When this mode is available, "HIGH" appears for 3 seconds. t When this mode is unavailable, "LoW" appears for 3 seconds. Press the Up button for 5 seconds to increase the temperature by 10°F (5°C), and press the Down button to decrease the temperature by 10°F (5°C). Note Commercial Warranty Applies when this mode is used. Refer to the Warranty in the Operation manual for more details. To prevent instant scalding or severe burns, check the set temperature before using hot water. 8 Entering Lock Mode To prevent accidental pressing of the buttons or to prevent children from operating the controller, you can enter Lock Mode. To activate or deactivate Lock Mode, press the Lock button for 2 seconds. When Lock Mode is activated, 2 sec t The Lock icon appears. t All buttons except for Lock button are locked. Note t Resetting errors or alarms is still available with Lock Mode activated. t You can change the settings on the panel with Lock Mode activated. 9 Setting the clock 1 2 or Press the Timer button. 10 Adjust the minute by pressing the Up or Down Button. 3 4 Press the OK button to move to the Hour field. Press the OK button to finish and save the time. Adjust the hour by pressing the Up or Down Button 11 Setting the Recirculation timer 1 2 X2 or Press the Timer button twice to set the Recirculation timer. Set the turn on time by pressing the Up or Down button. Reservation 1 is ready to be set. Press the OK button to set the turn off time. Note 12 The setting time changes by 30 minutes for each button pressing. 4 3 or Set the turn off time by pressing the Up or Down button. Press the OK button to save the timer setting. Repeat the same for Reservation 2 and 3. 13 5 At the reserved time, the preheating icon turns on and the Reservation area starts flashing. Note 14 This is applied to models with preheating only. Canceling all timer settings Press and hold the Timer and OK button simultaneously for 2 seconds. "CLR" appears for 3 seconds and all timer settings are canceled. 2 sec 15 Setting the initial number of activating units for Cascade systems 1 2 2 sec or Press the Timer and Lock button simultaneously for 2 seconds with the Power off. The number of initial activating water heaters is displayed. Note 16 The maximum number of setting unit is 16. Press the Up or Down button to adjust the value. Press the OK button to save changes. Note When you do not press the OK button for 10 seconds, the changes are not saved. Setting the temperature of DHW storage tank usage mode 1 2 2 sec or Press the Timer and OK button simultaneously for 2 seconds with the Power off. Press the Up or Down button to adjust the value Cascade On-unit temperature is ready to be set. Press the OK button to switch to Cascade Off UNIT temperature settings mode. Note t Setting value ranges from 0 to the set temperature for Operation settings. t The actual temperature is calculated as the set values × 0.5. 19 Additional features for Cascade systems Stand by feature before On/Off System info on the Slave panel This feature allows the system to stand by until the Power switches to On or Off. When the remote controller is connected to the wrong panel, its ID is displayed on the LCD display as an alert. In this case, you cannot control or change the settings. "WAIT" is displayed while the entire Cascade water heater power switching is completely finished. Connect the remote controller to the Master panel correctly. Note 20 This is applied to models with Cascade systems only. About errors and icons For level 1 errors Reset errors Current status and the error code displays in turn. You can reset the errors and control them. After the problems for errors are solved, press the OK button once and "RST" is displayed on the LCD display. For level 2 errors The error code and the repair icon displays in turn. The LED flashes in red. You cannot reset the errors or control them. For Cascade systems Regardless of error levels, the following is displayed in turn: Current status, error code, and Cascade ID. You can reset errors and control them. 21 About scale warning Scale warning Deactivating the scale alarm When the water heater needs to be cleaned, the scale alarm is activated. Press and hold the OK button for 2 seconds. "RST" is displayed for 3 seconds. Current status and alarm code is displayed in turn. You can change the settings and control them. For Cascade systems The following is displayed in turn: Current status, alarm code, and Cascade ID. You can change the settings and control them. Note 22 For details, see the Operation manual. Basic Troubleshooting and Frequently Asked Questions If you experience a problem with the water heater, refer to the following chart for possible remedies. Error codes that appear on the front panel display are explained in the following section. For minor problems, resetting the water heater may resolve the issue. To reset the water heater, press the Reset button on the front panel. If resetting the water heater and attempting the remedies suggested below do not resolve the problem, contact an authorized technician, a licensed professional, or Technical Support at 1-800-519-8794 for service instructions. Problem Possible Cause(s) No water comes out when the hot water tap is opened. t Is the cold water inlet filter clean? It takes too long for hot water to reach the fixtures. Are you using the external recirculation mode? What to do t Ensure that the shut–off valves on the hot and cold pipes are open. t Is an error code displayed on the front panel? t If an error code is displayed, refer to the Error Code Guide. t Is the water heater frozen? Have a contractor install a recirculation return line from the furthest faucet back to the water heater. 23 Problem The water from the hot water faucet is cold or turns cold and stays cold. Possible Cause(s) What to do t Is the cold water inlet filter clean? t Clean the cold water inlet filter.
