April 2010 INNOMAG Newsletter - Spring 2010 Springing Forward - By Pete Popovich, Sales Manager First off, on behalf of everyone here at INNOMAG, we’d like to thank all of you for your hard work and dedicated sales efforts. Thanks to the combined efforts of the factory and our distributors, we have been able to steadily grow our business into what it is today. As INNOMAG has grown, so have our distributors. As a result, the number of feet on the street selling our products has become substantial. This makes staying in contact with all of you a little more challenging. Thus, we’ve decided to make technology our friend and keep in touch regularly with a newsletter. Of course, we’re always just a phone call away if you want to check in live. It seems like we had a longer winter than usual here in the Chicago area, but the snows have finally melted. No longer do I hear the sound of cars slushing through wet snow outside my office window. Instead, I hear the sound of hammers, scaffolds and ladders as our workers hang a new, decorative awning roof along the face of our building (see photo on right) and improve our landscaping. It’s nice to be a part of a company that takes pride in quality, even down to the appearance of our building. This spring great things are happening at INNOMAG. We recently displayed our new tradeshow booth at the 26th Annual Pump User’s Symposium in Houston (see photo on page 4 of this newsletter). We also debuted new INNOMAG jerseys. We’re making some revisions to the artwork and expect to have a jersey order form available shortly for our distributors. Going forward, I will be continuing to work my way around the country to spend time with each of our distributors. I’ve already had very positive visits with several of our distributors and look forward to meeting the rest of you in person as soon as I can. Here at the factory, we plan to move forward on creating industry specific sales brochures, doing targeted sales campaigns, publishing application articles, and improving the visibility of our website. We will also be striving to provide you with regularly published newsletters to keep you abreast of what’s happening and to provide you with content that is of benefit to you. I hope you enjoy this first-ever INNOMAG newsletter and that you will take a little time out of your day to email me some feedback on it, along with suggestions on content you would like to see in future issues. 1 New and Exciting News - By Brian Ward, Partner We introduced a new product line at the Pump Symposium in Houston recently. For those of you who were unable to attend, I’d like to share the news. As you may know, we have done our share of lined pipe sections, fittings and elbows over the years, usually by special request with a pump order. We will now be offering these items as a standalone product line. Though we plan to have a published price list in the future, we ask you to call in for quotes until that time. Also, our new DRP (Dry Run Protection) bearing option is now available by request. Please watch our new dry run video in the distributor section of the website. For more information, contact our sales department. Distributor Tips Sales Promos Get to know the other INNOMAG distributors around you (click the “Distribution” tab on our website). These relationships are mutually beneficial. It allows our dealers to share leads, sales tips, information on big projects, referrals, industry news and even inventories. Keep common wet ends and typical repair parts in stock. We encourage this because we want you to be successful. All our best distributors do this and cite it as one of their main competitive advantages. Customers often need a pump or parts immediately. This is your chance to rise to the occasion, especially with a prospect you’ve been wooing for a while. Join in on the factory training seminars offered by INNOMAG (see page 4 of this newsletter for the next scheduled training seminar). Be mindful of other distributor’s territories. We do our best to help out on this issue, but we ask you to help by observing and respecting territory lines. Call us or the shipping territory’s distributor to work out a suitable arrangement. Let the Virtual Pump Quote (VPQ) program be your friend. It’s a great quoting/sizing tool. If you’re not sure how to use it, please call in. We’ll walk you through or a do a training seminar for your distributorship. Virtual Pump Quote We now have hardhat decals in stock. The decals feature the INNOMAG logo on an American Flag background with the catch phrase “Please Pump Responsibly”. We also have plain INNOMAG decals. Call or email Pete or Matt if you want some sent to your distributorship. Any of your customers who wear one are doing us a great service by promoting our product, so we’re more than glad to give these decals away. Use this promo as an advertising tool. Let your happy customers proudly display our name throughout their plants. The Distributor Section If you haven’t been to the distributor section of our website, it’s a great resource for sales material. There you can find the latest INNOMAG news, training videos, powerpoint presentations, drawings, graphics, sales guides, the latest virtual pump quote and more. Remember, our standard, carbon steel baseplates and WEG brand motors are included in VPQ, should you need to source them from us. Also, we can provide you with Basetek brand baseplates (call in for quote). We will be incorporating the Basetek bases into VPQ in the coming months. Use the INNOMAG contact list in this newsletter. Allow our owners the time they need to develop exciting, new products for you. We’ve announced two new products in this Newsletter and there are more to come in future issues. Lastly, Matt says if you’re going to call in for a quote make sure to have these commonly neglected pieces of information – sizing of existing pump, applicable dimensional standard (ANSI, ISO, etc), NPSHa, specific gravity, percent solids, physical nature of solids, and viscosity. 2 We’re currently in the process of switching to a faster server which should allow us to add many new features in the coming months. If you haven’t registered yet, simply click on the distributor login button under the distributor tab and fill out the simple registration form. Tradeshows Our own Matt Moy proudly poses in our tradeshow booth at the 26th Annual Pump User’s Symposium in Houston this March. This show doesn’t have the foot traffic it once did and mostly pulls a local crowd from the Gulf Coast, but it still brings us some respectable leads each year. 3 Opinion - By Matt Moy, Sales Engineer Chemical manufacturing is critical to the growth and prosperity of our economy. Proper equipment selection is vital to keeping our plants and mills competitive with the rest of the world. By using inferior equipment, companies suffer tremendously with downtime, increased capital costs, and ultimately, a loss of revenue. Anyone that takes the time to do an in-depth analysis of us and our competitors will see the superior value in our products, but plant personnel rarely have the time to do a comprehensive comparison. Lacking an effective counterpoint to outdated, misleading, and sometimes downright false information can lead to plant personnel making misinformed decisions. As such, we’d like feedback regarding what you see our competition using to sell against us. We’ve seen some of these documents and have been a little disappointed that such blatantly false things are said about us. Normally, we try to avoid negative selling, but it would be wrong if we left our distributors defenseless against some of these ridiculous attacks. As such we will begin distributing literature we’ve seen used to sell against us, along with a poignant response to what was stated. Our responses will be factual and our customers will find that the truth is our ally. Next distributor training seminar Thursday, May 20th & Friday, May 21st, 2010.
