Staff Activities
Dr. Muhammed Şahin fr om the Depar tment of Civil Engineer ing
joined the following TV programs,

“Üniversite Tercihleri” on TV 24 on June 23, 2016.

“İş Dünyası” on BloombergHT on June 24, 2016.
Dr. Muhammed Şahin has been awar ded with a plaque by Tur kish
Industrialist Businesswomen and Businessman Confederation for his
contribution in education on June 25, 2016.
Dr. Muhammed Şahin and Dr. Derin Ural fr om the Depar tment of
Civil Engineering and Dr. John McKeown, the Director of Foreign
Languages Department, hosted a meeting with the Israel Consul General,
H.E. Shai Cohen and his administration on June 9, 2016, at MEF
University. Future partnerships were discussed during the meeting.
The article “Eğitim Sistemimizin Tümörü: Çoktan Seçmeli Sınav” of Dr.
Erhan Erkut fr om the Depar tment of Industr ial Engineer ing has
been published in Hürriyet on June 6, 2016.
Dr. Derin Ural, fr om the Depar tment of Civil Engineer ing was
invited to attend the European Women Rectors Association (EWORA)
Inaugural Meeting which was held at University Foundation, Brussels on
June 20, 2016. She was invited as she has served as a former Vice Rector
of Istanbul Technical University.
Dr. Duygu Taş fr om the Depar tment of Industr ial Engineer ing
attended "Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions From Participation to
Association Meeting" held on June 13, 2016 at Bahçeşehir University,
Istanbul. This meeting aims to help the Associated Countries, especially
those that recently signed the association agreement, to improve their
participation in submitted and successfully evaluated proposals.
Faculty Seminars
Dr. Tuba Ayhan pr esented a seminar entitled " Design and
implementation of mm-precise ranging for indoor positioning systems"
on June 2, 2016. Dr. Ayhan received her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in
Electronics Engineering from Istanbul Technical University,
Istanbul,Turkey, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. She studied machine
olfaction and cellular neural networks and she was a visiting researcher at
The Institute for Nonlinear Science, University of California San Diego
(UCSD) during her masters. In 2015, she received her Ph.D. degree in
Applied Sciences from University of Leuven (KULeuven), Belgium on
electronic localization systems. Since 2015, she is working as a research
assistant at Istanbul Technical University.

Faculty Seminars
Dr. Gökhan Bora Esmer pr esented a seminar entitled " Thr eeDimensional Visualization and Holography" on June 20, 2016.
Dr. Esmer received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronics
Engineering from Bilkent University, Turkey in 2010. He worked
as an instructor at the same department in the following semester.
In 2011, he joined the Faculty of Engineering at Marmara
University, Istanbul, where he is an associate professor. His
research interests are in the areas of 3D visualization techniques,
digital holography and computer-generated holography. He is a
member of IEEE and OSA.
Dr. Özlem Acar pr esented a seminar entitled “A Stochastic
Model For Estimating Groundwater And Contaminant Discharges
From Fractured Rock Passive Flux Meter Measurements" on June
22, 2016. Dr. Acar received her B.S. and M.S. (Hydraulics)
degrees in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical
University, Ankara. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Hydrology/
Water Resources from the Civil and Coastal Engineering
Department of University of Florida, USA. She worked as a
postdoctoral research associate at the Geosciences Department of
University of Wisconsin (Milwaukee), USA and
at the
Geological & Atmospheric Sciences Department of Iowa State
University, USA. Additionally, she has nine years of working
experience with the consultant firms on various hydraulics and
water resources related projects.
