use Test box VAG 1598 and adaptor wire kit VW 1594 to make all test connections
to the control unit
the terminal numbering on the control unit harness connector and the numbering on
the VAG 1598 Test box are the same
CAUTION!
Do NOT connect or disconnect adaptors/test instruments to the VAG 1598 Test box while
the ignition is switched ON.
A - Digifant system, checking
Using Digifant control unit harness connector
Testing requirements
battery voltage OK
fuses 15 and 18 OK
Digifant system grounds OK
fuel pumps OK
fuel pump relay OK
switch OFF ignition
disconnect Digifant control unit (J 169) harness connector
located on driver's side of plenum (water trough)
connect VAG 1598 Text box 1 to Digifant control unit harness connector 2 using
adaptor cable VAG 1598/2
control unit 3 is NOT connected
make connections on the VAG 1598 Test box as indicated in the following
procedures

Electrical testing with Digifant control unit connected
Note
Perform the following tests only if the engine will not start.
switch OFF ignition
connect VAG 1598 Test box 1 to the Digifant control unit harness connector 2 and to
the Digifant control unit 3 using adaptor cable VAG 1598/2
CAUTION!
Always switch the multimeter to the desired units and range of measurement (Volts, Ohms,
etc.) before making any connections to the Test box or the Digifant control unit will be
permanently damaged.
Do not connect or disconnect adaptors/test instruments to the VAG 1598 Test box while the
ignition is switched ON.

switch OFF ignition
disconnect multimeter from Test box
connect US 1115 LED tester (VAG 1527B) to terminals 13 and 18 of Test box using
adaptor cables from the VW 1594 kit
disconnect main harness connector for fuel injectors (from fuel injector wiring guide)
switch OFF ignition
connect US 1115 LED tester (VAG 1527B) to terminals 3 and 25 of Test box using
adaptor cables from the VW 1594 kit
