Eight Channel Strain Gage
SG-8 Plate with ID Capability
and SG/LX8-S-ID Adapter
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The SG-8 plate provides an interface between a RJG Eight Channel Strain Gage Adapter and up
to eight RJG strain gage multichannel sensors. The SG-8 simplifies and decreases the footprint of
multi-sensor applications and identifies the mold for easy software setup.

Make sure that the Ground Potential of the mold is the same as the Ground used by the eDART™.
(This can be done by using a multimeter to measure the DC and AC voltage difference between
these two locations.)
Make sure that the Adapter and any connecting cables are out of the way of any sources of static
such as feeder tubes and material hoppers.

Sensor and Plate Installation
Attach Sensors to SG-8 Plate
The sensor connectors are keyed to ensure
the connector is aligned properly with the plate.
A The top of the module is indicated by a larger
gap on the board. The higher portion of the
sensor plug-in corresponds to this gap.

Attach SG-8 Plate to Mold
Make sure the plate is fully
tightened down, as this compresses the connectors and ensures a good electrical connection.
B
C
C Make sure that all cables are
properly secured in the channels before attaching the retainer or cover plate.

Mount Adapter to Platen
NOTES: The Adapter must be mounted on a grounded structure (such as a mold in the press or
platen) but preferably to the machine frame or control panel to ensure proper operation.

Connect and Configure
Connect Plate to Adapter
The multichannel connector cable
is attached to the mold using
two captive M5 screws. These
must be properly tightened using
an Allen wrench to prevent the
screws from loosening during use.
Failure to properly tighten the
screws can cause damage to
the connector.
Configure Sensors
In the eDART™ software Sensor Locations page, enter the sensor model on the Setup page for each
channel. If multiple plates are used on a single mold, the unique serial number of each is matched to
corresponding plate number in the eDART™ software. The serial number also allows the eDART™
to automatically identify the mold and recall the correct setup each time the plate is connected to the
adapter. (See below) This allows a single strain gage adapter to be mounted on a single molding
machine and still be used with multiple molds.
