Strain gauge measurements
The electrical resistance strain gauge technique is based on measuring the variation in electrical resistance undergone by a strain gauge grid, which is bonded to the component under analysis and subjected to strain.
It is an extremely versatile test method as it enables the elastic and plastic strain of any material to be obtained in
actual operating conditions, even in hostile environments, with an appropriate choice of components for the strain
gauge installation.
SINT Technology has a long track record in strain gauge measurement and over the years has developed measurement techniques in collaboration with research centres and universities.

Measurement of static and dynamic strains
SINT Technology is able to perform static and dynamic measurements, using strain gauges and other types of
sensors. The exerience of the staff and vast array of instrumentation at their disposal makes it possible to carry
out a wide range of applications.
Experimental stress analysis
Experimental stress analysis is used to determine the stress states of structures or components subjected to actual load conditions or for verifying and calibrating finite element calculation models.
Construction of transducers

Measurement of torque and torsional vibration on rotating shafts
Analysing vibration and torsional resonance is an extremely effective diagnostic tool for identifying abnormal conditions during operation of rotating machinery which can result in damage.
Measurement of torque is used to calculate transmitted mechanical power.
SINT Technology has telemetry systems and software for performing torsional vibration analyses on a wide variety of machinery.

have expertise in strain gauge applications on field
and in the laboratory.
Strain gauge measurements on
pressure vessels
SINT Technology performs experimental tests on pressure vessels, for example, for determining stresses occurring during hydrostatic testing of components.
Residual stress analysis
SINT Technology is a laboratory specialised in measuring residual stress by strain gauge methods. Some of

Experimental modal analysis
Modal analysis is used to understand and model the
dynamic behaviour of a structure. It can be carried out
both to determine the natural frequencies and mode
shapes of a structure and to verify accuracy and calibrate a finite element model (FEM). The strain gauge
method can be used in applications where other types
of sensors (for instance, accelerometers) could alter
the dynamic characteristics of the structure.
Instrumentation
SINT Technology can count on an extensive range of instruments for measuring and analysing strain, with a wide
availability of acquisition channels and instrumentation able to cover many types of tests. Some of the instruments
are:

Training Courses
SINT Technology is an examination centre recognized by CICPND (the Italian Coordination Center for Nondestructive Testing) for providing first and
second-level certification courses and examinations for electrical resistance
strain gage testing engineers.
SINT Technology is also a member of AIAS (the Italian Association for
Stress Analysis) and periodically organizes courses, study days and work
groups on analysis of the behaviour of materials, components, structures
and systems.
