It is an extremely versatile test method as it enables the elastic and plastic strain of any material to be obtained in actual operating conditions, even in hostile environments, with an appropriate choice of components for the strain gauge installation. Measurement of torque is used to calculate transmitted mechanical power. SINT Technology has telemetry systems and software for performing torsional vibration analyses on a wide variety of machinery. It can be carried out both to determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a structure and to verify accuracy and calibrate a finite element model (FEM). The strain gauge method can be used in applications where other types of sensors (for instance, accelerometers) could alter the dynamic characteristics of the structure.
