Pump Accessories Carbide Insert Guide (CIG) Carbide Insert Guide (CIG) The installation of the Carbide Insert Guide (CIG) will eliminate the possibility of your rod insert pump problems of broken or severely worn holdown assembly’s. The unique design of this guide allows the installation of a carbide insert to be put into the center of your valve rod guide which will eliminate holdown wear and breaks. Wells with deviation or high compression cause a side loading of the pumps valve rod against the guide, on the top of the pump. When this guide begins to wear it allows the rod to begin wearing against the pumps holdown causing it to be come thin enough to wear a hole or break, both resulting in a pump failure. By adding the CIG, wear is prevented on the guide by the strength and durability of the carbide insert. This allows your pump to work longer and eliminate premature failures of the holdown assembly. The CIG is designed to fit any size of API rod insert pump. Advantages • Eliminates broken or worn holdown assembly’s • Eliminates costly fishing job’s for barrel tubes • Eliminates side loading in pump chamber • Due to it’s beefier design, it will not pound out • Extended pump run life Features • Utilizes a carbide insert for increased durability. • Carbide insert has a hardness of 89 HRA. • 3 piece designs are stronger and will not pound out like traditional guides. • Available in standard and high grade materials to suite your well conditions. In a gas lock situation, gassy fluid between the pumps two valves is expanded and compressed. When the pressure in between the two valves becomes greater than the inflow pressure, the standing valve will not open. If both valves remain closed the pump will gas lock, reducing or eliminating the wells production. The PV utilizes a small orifice to allow a controlled leak of produced fluid into the pump chamber. Fluid is non-compressible, so when the required amount of fluid enters the pump chamber, the travel valve contacts the fluid thus opening the valve and allowing gas and liquid to be displaced out of the pump chamber and allowing normal pump operation to continue. The PV is designed to fit any size of API pump. Advantages • • • • Eliminates gas locking Reduces gas and fluid pound Reduces premature valve damage Increases production Features • • • • • • • Non mechanical design means no moving parts to wear out Bushing is manufactured from 316 stainless steel Tungsten carbide orifice Fits all API rod insert pumps Able to install on tubing pumps Available for both top and bottom holddown pump designs Economical- low cost Your Specialists in Optimized Pumping Systems Drayton Valley (780) 542-5419 Edmonton (780) 462-7124 Slave Lake (780) 849-6822 Red Deer (403) 356-9774 510, 407 – 2nd Street S.W Calgary, AB T2P 2Y3 Tel: (403) 234-7033 Fax: (403) 234-7014 Grande Prairie (780) 830-2475 Peace River (780) 624-0035 Fort St. John (250) 262-2019 Pump Accessories Positive Seal Plug (PSP) The design of the Positive Seal Plug (PSP) eliminates the possibility of your bottomhole pump hanging up or seizing on the downstroke due to sands and solids. The PSP’s unique design allows sands and solids in the bottom chamber of your pump barrel to be funneled through the travel cage and plunger. The PSP utilizes a tight tolerance and a funnel design to push the solids trapped in your fluid through the plunger’s center rather than allowing it to go in-between your plunger and barrel tube causing hang-ups or seizing the plunger on the downstroke. With the PSP pushing the solids through the center of the plunger, the plunger is allowed to fall free without hang-ups. The PSP is designed to fit any size of API insert pump. Advantages • Helps eliminate plunger hangs ups on the downstroke • Funnels solids through the plunger • Fits any API insert pump • Design assists in gas compression • Increases working life of the pump Features • Funnel design pushes solids through the pump rather than allowing solids to go in-between the plunger and barrel. • Tight tolerance -.002”. • Spray metal OD resist galling (56-62 HRC). • Made of 316 Stainless Steel. • Hex key design for easy assembly. • Tight tolerance assists in gas compression. • Assists in preventing plunger wear. • Provides a wiping action on the downstroke. Top Seal utilizes a rubber element that is bonded with a steel insert to minimize extrusion, to aid in releasing the rubber from the tubing wall, and to prevent the fluid from washing it away when the tool is released. This rubber element acts as a packer to isolate the space usually open to receive sand and scale. Installation The Top Seal is installed on any conventional Bottom Hold Down, Stationary Barrel Pump. The seal sets by applying the weight of the rods onto the tool. To release, merely pick up the rod string and the pump. Advantages • Available for 2-3/8 and 2-7/8 tubing. • Helps eliminate stripping jobs due to a stuck pump • Can be redressed with a new rubber element Your Specialists in Optimized Pumping Systems Drayton Valley (780) 542-5419 Edmonton (780) 462-7124 Slave Lake (780) 849-6822 Red Deer (403) 356-9774 510, 407 – 2nd Street S.W Calgary, AB T2P 2Y3 Tel: (403) 234-7033 Fax: (403) 234-7014 Grande Prairie (780) 830-2475 Peace River (780) 624-0035 Fort St. John (250) 262-2019 Pump Accessories Gas Locking Prevention Components Gas Locking Prevention Components Include: Top Gas Check or Top Sliding Valve Hydrostatic Relief Valve (HRV) Sidekicker Hart Gas Lock Breaker Dart Valve Solution Valve Conditions for Gas Lock • • • • • • • • Low fluid levels Gasified fluid levels Low fluid production Produces casing gas Often landed above perforations Aggravated by long tail joints Excessive pump capacity Poor plunger spacing Symptoms of Gas Locking • • • • • Well frequently quits making fluid Erratic Test Corrected by pumping oil down casing Frequent pump changes Pulled pumps are in fair conditions Gas Locking Prevention • • • • • • • • • Bleed off casing gas Slower S.P.M. It is run at the top of the pump above the Barrel Connector. Even a momentarily holding back the hydrostatic head is useful in creating a low-pressure area above the traveling valve, thus helping it to open under gas locking conditions. The hydrostatic pressure will close the Top Gas Check and the restriction of fluid flow due to the slight clearance will create a differential pressure that helps the traveling valve to open. Not only does the Top Gas Check minimize the effects of fluid pound, but it helps to prevent sand from settling into the pump. However, in wells with a high gas to fluid ratio, an additional gas device should be considered. Sidekicker The Sidekicker is a designed to eliminate gas lock because the traveling valve is opened and closed mechanically. It is attached to the top of the plunger and it designed to physically lift the traveling ball off of its seat. When the Sidekicker opens the traveling valve fluid is allowed to reach the standing valve, filling the void created by gas in the lower chamber. This prevents gas lock and creates a smoother stroke which can extend the life of the pumping equipment. It is important that a pump with a Sidekicker not be tapped. This design assists in removing the hydrostatic pressure off the travel valve. This allows the valves to open easier and quicker when gas compression and expansion is reducing your pumping efficiency. This type of “two stage” effect reduces damage caused by the gas and fluid pound on your pumping system. Another advantage with using the HRV is that it decreases the sucker rod load range and keeps them in tension on the down stroke. The HRV is designed to fit any size of API insert pump. Advantages • Helps prevent gas locking • Reduces gas and fluid pound • Gives pump a two stage effect • Decreased load range on sucker rods • Reduces premature valve damage • Increases working life of pump Features • Solid guide keeps hydrostatic head off slide resulting in easier and quicker opening • Heat-treated S.S. slide for abrasion and mild corrosion • Tungsten Carbide seat for abrasion, corrosion resistance and fluid cutting • Available in standard and high grade materials to suite your well environment • Slide available in both brass and heat-treated S.S. • Guides are heat-treated to reduce wear, improve slide alignment and reduce damage from tapping For superior results a stainless steel slide and spray metal valve rod is recommended Your Specialists in Optimized Pumping Systems Drayton Valley (780) 542-5419 Edmonton (780) 462-7124 Slave Lake (780) 849-6822 Red Deer (403) 356-9774 510, 407 – 2nd Street SW Calgary, AB T2P 2Y3 Tel: (403) 234-7033 Fax: (403) 234-7014 Grande Prairie (780) 830-2475 Peace River (780) 624-0035 Fort St. John (250) 262-2019 Pump Accessories Gas Locking Prevention Components Hart Gas Lock Breaker The Hart Gas Lock Breaker is another option that allows rod operated pumps to function in wells with a high gas to oil ratio. The Hart traveling cage is attached to the bottom of the plunger and is longer than a standard cage. A Hart probe is attached to the bottom of the barrel (or extension) which has a rod that enters the traveling cage on the downstroke and physically lifts the ball of the seat. Spacing becomes important as to allow the probe to enter the cage and lift the ball off of the seat. The pump should not be set on tap when a Hart Gas Lock Breaker is installed on the pump. High Compression Cage The high compression cage has limited ball travel and is shorter in height than an API closed barrel cage. This cage can be used on an internal thread barrel when you need to get the standing valve and traveling valve cage closer together. Dart Valve The Dart Valve is able to keep the ball off of the seat during the entire downstroke, which effectively places everything within the pump barrel into the production column. By opening the traveling valve at the start of the downstroke, transient forces are not allowed to build up and affect the opening of the valve within the Dart Valve. This prevents gas lock and creates a smoother stroke which can extend the life of the pumping equipment. It is important that a pump with a Dart Valve is not to be tapped. The valve is positioned on the bottom of the plunger, with the usual traveling valve relocated at the top. As is normally the case the Standing Valve remains positioned at the bottom of the pump barrel. Within the Solution Valve, the ball is centered and stationary, while the seat moves up and down in accordance with resistance imposed by its short drag plunger. Consequently, the valve opens and closes upon initiation of down and up strokes, respectively. The Solution Valve’s unique, exclusive, patented design in travel valve technology works wonders in gassy fluids, increases pump efficiency in vertical, deviated and horizontal wells, and increases pump life.
