CICC Legal Intern (United Nations) New York, NY, USA The Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC) includes 2,500 civil society organizations in 150 different countries working in partnership to strengthen international cooperation with the International Criminal Court (ICC); ensure that the Court is fair, effective and independent; make justice both visible and universal; and advance stronger national laws that deliver justice to victims of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide Position The Legal Section in New York is seeking an intern to assist staff with a range of International Criminal Court and United Nations projects. The Intern will report to the CICC Programme and Advocacy Officer and the Head of Legal Section in The Hague. The internship will be full-time and start in January for a period of 3-6 months. Responsibilities • Attend meetings and debates at the United Nations (eg. UN Security Council and September 2013 UN General Assembly) on thematic issues and country situations that relate to the ICC, reporting on the sessions for CICC members; • Monitor developments at the United Nations on ICC country situations; • Perform research on ICC and UN matters; • Provide support to advocacy efforts; • Undertake special projects and assignments as may arise from time to time. Qualifications • Graduate student in law, international relations, political science, or related field; • Knowledge of the ICC, the UN or peace and security matters in ICC situation countries; • Excellent written and oral communication, research, organization and writing skills; • Ability to work independently and within the constraints of tight deadlines; • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software; • Previous experience in a nonprofit environment or international organization an advantage; • Perfect knowledge of English, additional language proficiencies are a plus, especially French; • Interest in the goals of the CICC. Remuneration: Unfortunately, internships at the CICC are unpaid.
