POWER MODULES
Product Overview & Applications
1
What is a Power Module?
A functional circuit providing a variety of commonly
used power control & switching functions in a single
package.
This eliminates the need for:
• Selection
• Design
2
• Integration
• Additional assembly
Power Modules – also referred to as,
3
•
Thyristor / SCR / Diode / Module
•
Power Block
•
Bridge Rectifier
•
Power Cube
•
PACE- Pak (passivated assembled
circuit elements)
Glossary of Terms
Anode- An SCR terminal, positive in respect to the gate and the
cathode when conducting.
Cathode- An SCR terminal, negative in respect to the anode when
conducting.
Discrete Device- An individual electrical component packaged or
unpackaged, such as a resistor, capacitor, transistor, diode, etc.
Diode- A two terminal semiconductor which allows electric current
to flow easily in one direction but not in the other.
Heat sink- A material with good heat conducting or dissipating
properties.
4
Term’s (cont.)
Rectifier - Same as diode. Also used to describe equipment that
converts AC to DC.
Trigger - To turn on an SCR by utilizing its gate terminal.
Thyristor - A term for the general class of semiconductor devices
which includes SCR’s, triacs, alternistors, etc.
SCR - Silicon Controlled Rectifier. A three terminal
semiconductor manufactured from silicon that blocks current flow
in one direction, can be switched from blocking to conduction in
the other direction.
