■ GENERAL
Our remote seal Diaphragm Measurement System is
commonly used when process-operating conditions
extend beyond the normal operating limits of a pressure
transmitter. In addition, they are used to reduce the
weight of the device at the process connection,
particularly with conventional pressure transmitters.
The lightweight design of DPharp pressure transmitters
combined with a robust direct-mounting system provide
an excellent solution for both close-coupled and remote
seal applications.
For service where one or more of the following
conditions exist:
■ High temperature
■ Clogging potential
■ Frequent cleaning requirements
■ Aggressive or abrasive processes
■ ANSI flanged including flush and extended process
connections
■ NPT threaded process connections
■ Sanitary connections including aseptic, gpc quick
connect, tri-clamp, cherry burrell, and tank spud.
■ Saddle seal for welding into pipe line.

■ INTRODUCTION
Advantages include:
The direct-mount seal (DMS) system provides a closecoupled connection to DPharp digital pressure
transmitters meeting process connection requirements
in food and beverage, biotech, pharmaceutical, chemical,
and many other industries. When used with DPharp s
unique auto-level software feature, DMS transmitters
offer a lower cost of ownership than our competitors.

The DMS mounting system is designed for direct
mounting to any DPharp pressure capsule body, thus
maintaining standard sealing characteristics while
providing superior structural integrity. The process
connection itself is directly welded to the DMS flange,
thereby eliminating potential leak paths common to
threaded connections utilized on conventional
transmitters. Other DMS expanded capabilities include
a wide variety of exotic alloys and custom flanged or
threaded process connections.

Direct-mount systems eliminate the use of filled
capillaries leading to overall performance improvements
and a reduction in installation and maintenance costs.
Minimizing internal fluid volume reduces the amount of
temperature effect as a result of fluid expansion.
Eliminating filled capillaries reduces the need for
supporting mounting peripherals while greatly
minimizing start-up by eliminating the need for
calculation of suppression or elevation due fluid head.

Available for selection on Threaded seals is a 4" cooling
element for direct-mount. Intended to protect the
EJA530/510 from high or low process temperature. Air
flow across heat exchanging fins reduces or increses the
temperature of the system fill fluid to protect the
transmitter.
The cooling element is recommended for process
temperatures approaching transmitter temperature
limits. It is direct mounted between the EJA530/510
and the diaphragm seal. Silicone fill is recommended.
Effective temperature reductions of 200°F depending
upon ambient conditions. All 316SS construction back
welded to stainless steel upper housing or flange.

Pancake Seal (WIKA 990.28):
This type of seal is usually mounted between
two flange connections. It is effectively
clamped or "sandwiched" between the two
flanges. Typical sizes are 2"-4" with 3" being
the most common.

Flush Flanged (WIKA 990.27):
This seal provides a direct flange connection,
with the diaphragm welded to the sealing
surface. These are available in 2"-4" process
connections.
Extended Flanged (WIKA 990.29):
Same basic construction as the Flush flanged
except that the diaphragm is attached to an
extended barrel which is typically used on
jacketed tanks. Process connection sizes are
3" and 4" with extensions available in 2", 4"
and 6".

Sanitary (WIKA 990.22 & 981.22):
These seals are used in processes, which
require quick disconnect for ease of cleaning.
The connection itself does not allow collection
of material, which can potentially create
bacterial growth. Process connections are
available in TriClamp, Cherry Burrell, In-Line
sanitary, Tank Spud, Aseptic, "APC" Quick
connect and GC "H" Line.
Also, these seals allow for Close Coupled
Connection (CCC) to the EJA 530/510 direct
mount transmitters. Refer to GS1C21F1-E

Low-Range (WIKA 990.40 & 990.41):
These seals are designed for applications
with smaller measurement spans (≤ 150
w.c.). An expanded lower housing is used to
accommodate a 3.5" diaphragm. As with
other lower housing, this can also function
with a flushing ring when a flushing
connection is selected. Process connections
are available in a variety of sizes from 1/2" to
4" in flanged-direct mount, remote flange and
remote flange threaded designs.

Transmitter:
Most typical remote seal applications are
supported by the EJA110A (DP) and
EJA430A (Gauge) transmitters. To meet
process requirements, other DPharp
transmitters can be fitted with diaphragm
seals: EJA130A DP cells and
EJA440A/310A/510A/530A GP/AP. Follow
the model code configuration as listed
in the specific instrument s GS sheet.

Size
The error induced in a system can be greatly affected by
differential temperature (between the process and the fill
fluid) and by the spring constant of the diaphragm used.
An error in a filled capillary system can be calculated by
the following equation:

This does not necessarily mean that a bigger diaphragm
is required. When a gauge pressure transmitter is being
used at pressures higher than 100psig, a smaller
diaphragm can be used. Also, if a system has a large ∆T
between the process and ambient temperature but the
system is stable, such that this temperature difference is
constant, the two legs of the system will compensate and
the error can be zeroed out of the system. the following is
