Have you heard the news? There’s a new
children’s hospital in Green Bay!
That’s right: at HSHS St. Vincent, we’ve created
a Children’s Hospital – right within our walls.
Where every detail is tailored to kids. And
life-saving care is not hours, but moments away.
As a loyal donor and dear friend, you know our
hospitals are no stranger to providing first-rate
health care to children in need. We’ve been doing
it for years – thanks in part to the generous support
we receive from wonderful people like you.
By officially becoming the HSHS St. Vincent
Children’s Hospital and joining the Children’s
Hospital Association – the voice for more than
220 children’s hospitals nationwide – we can now bring a whole new level of care
to our little patients in need – and to the loved ones who are close by their side.
As we embark on this exciting new development, we realize there will be many
new opportunities – and challenges – we encounter along the way. That is why
we are so grateful to have dedicated and kind donors like you on our side.
Thank you for all you do in support of our caring mission – and for your heartfelt
support of the newborns, toddlers, and children who are in our care!

and the remarkable ways it is using the donations it receives from generous
people like you, please visit: https://www.stvincentchildrenshospital.org/

HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital
Since naming our Children’s Hospital we have been working facets of our organization
position and strengthen the recognition of our services as HSHS St. Vincent Children’s
Hospital—Green Bay’s first and only Children’s Hospital. How we represent ourselves t
patients, the public and our colleague family is very important and our logo needs to em
how we view ourselves and how we want others to see us. I am excited to share with y
result of this work—the new HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital logo.
Donations Needed as We Embark on this New Mission
We begin with the tau, an integral element in all HSHS logos. The tau is a Greek symbo
represents Franciscans. It is the visual element that represents our Hospital Sisters and
deeply rooted philosophy and mission to reveal and embody Christ’s healing love for al
through high-quality Franciscan health care. It is the symbol of St. Francis stretching ou
arms and declaring to his friars that their tunic reflected the shape of the cross and also
wrapped each of them in a life-long commitment to become a symbol of healing to othe
tau symbolizes the richness of the past, and at the same time, is a challenge for the fut
a sign of life and salvation.
The circle around the tau represents a sense of inclusion and ease of movement within
HSHS System. This same inclusiveness is found within HSHS St. Vincent Children’s H
HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and their shared departments and services. As a result, all w
come to us will experience a seamless transition of care within our facility.
At HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital we are committed to life and we strive to make
future the best it can possibly be for all of our pediatric patients and their families. The s
star in our logo represents this commitment and the hope it extends to all. It also sparks
imagination and dreams of a new and brighter future.
The HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital logo will sometimes be used alone to promot
services. At other times, such as on the hospital building, it will be paired with the HSHS
Vincent logo. In the coming months we will add our logo to the building and implement
way-finding techniques to enhance the comfort of our HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hos
patients and their families and assist them with navigating our building and services.
You will also see the HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital logo sometimes paired with
Prevea Health logo as it’s important to recognize our partnership and the seamless car
between HSHS and Prevea Health. This partnership is especially significant when it co
caring for kids as we work very closely together to provide high quality medical services
families.
We look forward to the full rollout of our logo and encourage you to share its meaning w
patients and community.

Cancer knows no bounds.
It affects everyone – even children.
Donors Create a Special Place within the new
HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital to Push
Back Against Pediatric Cancer
Did you know cancer is the leading cause of diseaserelated death among children? It’s true and it is
heartbreaking. Thankfully, people like you care about
the children who are battling cancer here in northeast
Wisconsin. You aren’t willing to sit there and do nothing.
You are standing up and joining the fight against this
horrible disease.
Within the walls of the new HSHS St. Vincent Children’s
Hospital is a very special place – a pediatric clinic that
treats children battling cancer. It is one of only five
pediatric cancer clinics in Wisconsin. The clinic has
saved the lives of many children over the years – thanks
in part to generous donors like you. You see, a few years
ago, a group of compassionate donors donated more
than $796,934 to make the clinic the best it can possible
be for our little patients.
One of the little patients whose life was changed thanks
in part to this generous act is an incredible ten-year-old
girl from Marinette – a girl named Norah.
Norah loves to ice skate. One day, back in November
of 2013, Norah fell while on the ice. It seemed harmless –
like the many falls that come with ice-skating. But this one
was different. Norah developed a pain in her neck – a
pain that would not go away. Concerned, her mother
drove her to the local emergency room. There, the
family received
shocking news:
Norah, their little girl, had cancer.
The location of Norah’s tumor was very rare. Their local
hospital in Marinette didn’t have the resources to treat
her cancer, so Norah’s parents began looking for place –
a special place that would provide extraordinary care to
their daughter and to their family.
Norah and her family toured HSHS St. Vincent Hospital
and met with Dr. Jon Brandt, a Pediatric Hematologist –
Oncologist who cares for children like Norah. They were
impressed by everything they saw – and heard. Especially
all of the extra special resources made possible thanks to
donors like you.
Norah began her treatments at HSHS St.Vincent soon
afterward. Her family remained close by her side. “We
really felt like St. Vincent was treating our entire family
and that spoke volumes because we wanted our family to
be together,” said Chad, Norah’s father.
Throughout Norah’s illness, the family experienced
support from family and friends, but the greatest support
came from the oncology team at HSHS St. Vincent
Hospital and the generous people like you who support
their work. “We honestly don’t know how we would’ve
survived and it’s difficult to find the words to express
how thankful we are,” said Chad and Lynn Derby, Norah’s
parents.
Today, ten-year-old Norah continues to be cancer free.
She is full of life and loves dancing, swimming, and riding
her bike and scooter with her brother, Owen.
“The care and treatment Norah received saved her life.
We have days ahead and futures to plan because of St.
Vincent Hospital and the wonderful people who support
its work.”
On behalf of Nora and her family – thank you for your
ongoing support of our caring mission!

Bringing Joy to Our Littlest Patients
The HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital offers the only Child Life Program in the
Region – thanks to the generosity of donors like you
A hospital can be a scary place – especially when
viewed through the eyes of a child. We, at the HSHS
St. Vincent Children’s Hospital, are so fortunate to have
an incredible team of Child Life Specialists who, like you,
are dedicated and ready to help children in need.
“We are always there for children in our care. We tag
along with them to all of their medical appointments. We
are there to explain what is going to happen next. We
are there to help distract them during their procedures
and treatments. The children grow to trust us and consider
us friends,” says Ashley Thompson, Child Life Specialist.
Our Child Life team helps children – and their loved
ones – under our care. Our team is specially trained to
help children and their family members adapt to the
hospital setting through the use of explanation, support,
and play. This valuable program and its costs rely heavily
on donations received from compassionate people like
you in order to carry out their mission.
The HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital is the only
hospital in the region to offer Child Life services to its
pediatric patients and their families. The service is free
and available to all of the children, teens and young
adults who receive care at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital.
Donations from
people like
you are critical
and absolutely
essential to the
success of the
program.
“When I started
here the Child
Life program
was very basic.
It consisted of providing breaks for parents and basic
bedside activities. Over the past 15 years – thanks in
large part to donors like you – it’s grown tremendously,”
says Colleen Ducke, Manager of the Child Life Program.
“But now that we are an official children’s hospital there
is more and more work to be done and more and more
children to help.”
Our Child Life program – and the wonderful services it
provides – is heavily reliant on the gifts it receives from
people like you. Without generous support from the
people who care about children, our pediatric patients
would miss out on this special program and the joy it brings.
To meet our Child Life team and see some of the incredible ways they are using the donations they
receive, please visit: https://www.prevea.com/Medical-Services/Pediatrics/What-is-Child-Life/

No child ever says: “I want to become an addict”
Unite with HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and Libertas Treatment Center to
Rescue Kids from the Clutches of Addiction
Families with an addicted adolescent face hell on earth. It’s a horror that many don’t see, or even believe.
But it’s real. And it’s robbing our children of their childhoods, and their futures.
“I could tell you stories,” says Jon Logan, Manager at the Libertas Treatment Center. “Stories of alcohol
abuse, of drug addiction, of pain, torment and sorrow. Each tale is as heartbreaking as the one before. Lives
are at stake. We see it every day. And that is why the work we are doing here at Libertas is so important.”
You may not know, but Libertas Treatment Center is right in your backyard – a stone’s throw from HSHS
St. Mary’s Hospital. And it is now part of our HSHS Eastern Wisconsin Division’s one family of care.
Libertas is the only private inpatient substance abuse facility in Wisconsin that primarily focuses on
adolescent substance abuse. The center provides chemical dependency treatment, relieves the pain and
suffering of the patient and their family, and provides the skills necessary to cope with the disease so life is
more manageable. Children and adolescents – some as young as 11 and 12 – from throughout Wisconsin
and neighboring states come to its doors, in need of help.
From its inception, Libertas has relied on generous support from people like you in order to carry out its
healing mission. The not-for-profit center has rescued thousands of adolescents from addiction since it
opened in 1989. In fact, more than 80% of adolescents who participate in the Libertas Inpatient Treatment
Program complete the program. Many grow up to be lawyers, teachers, counselors, business leaders, and
members of our armed forces.
“Recovering from alcohol and drug addiction takes hard work, commitment and a caring heart,” says Logan.
“Libertas Treatment Center – and the donors who give a gift to help kids in our care – embrace these things.
Working together, and only together, may we offer treatment that is founded upon sincere concern and
loving support for all involved.”
“Those of us at Libertas – and the people who generously give to help the children in our care –
realize and understand that what matters most is the story of those in need of help. Libertas
is not the end for them. It’s is the beginning of a new and hopeful chapter.”
Please consider making
Libertas seeks compassionate people like you to join us in bringing hope to children and

adolescents right here in northeast Wisconsin. The need has never been greater. Dangerously

addictive drugs like methamphetamine and heroin are affecting more and more young people
in our community – and treatment comes at a cost that not all families can afford.
