It also specifies the contents for texts and barcode as well as the dimensions. The term “VOLKSWAGEN” is used in this document in place of the brands of the Volkswagen Group. The “Implementation Guideline” refers directly to the Global Transport Label (GTL) Standard of the organizations AIAG, JAMA/JAPIA and ODETTE as well as VDA as the common basis and adds the specifics of VOLKSWAGEN. The GLA is the physical information carrier at the container itself. It is matched with the Electronic Data Communication (EDI) and has a text for manual editing and barcode & 2D code for the machine registration. See the process-describing EDI Implementation Guidelines for more detailed descriptions of the underlying EDI data. Also refer to the separate description of the structural presentation of packages required by VOLKSWAGEN. The latest version of this guideline can be found under: Download EDI-Guidelines The GTL standard contains the technical information required for the implementation of the Global Transport Label. The GTL substitutes the OTL = Odette Transport Label and VDA 4902 Label used up to now at VOLKSWAGEN. The globally unique package number enables the one document principle in the transport chain from the supplier via the intermediate storage to the point of assembly. This eliminates marking and relabeling in the intermediate processes. Clear identification of the package by scanning only one barcode field "License Plate" with the package number (Org-Company Code + Serial Number) is guaranteed. Handling is considerably simplified due to the Data Matrix Code because all package information is in just one code field instead of several different ones. The Data Matrix Code has to be used. The PDF 417 code must not used. ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 10 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label 7 General Terms The GTL has to be attached as a good label to each part-bearing container. Auxiliary packaging has no quantity per package (e.g. cover); they are not provided with a label. Like auxiliary packaging, empty KLTs in the container (for stabilization) must be shipped without labels. Intermediate and virtual packages (COPACK) represent a special case. In principle, a label is to be provided for these packages too. Details must be clarified with the recipient plant. A detailed description of the package structures, including examples, can be found in the EDI guidelines and in the guide Package structures in the VW VDA 4913 and/or Package structures in the VW EDIFACT DESADV. 7.1 Label Sizes and Paper Weight The standard format of the GTL is A5 landscape 210 mm x 148 mm. The SMALL-Label for small container types (KLT) is half of the A5 height, 210 mm x 74 mm. The AIAG-B10 format 152.4 mm x 101.6 mm is used for the plant CHATTANOOGA (or DIN A6 148 x 105 mm). (See fig. 3 GTL label sizes). The paper weight of a pluggable GTL is at least 120 g/qm. 7.2 GTL Label Types The GTL label types are: 7.3 VL Label on part-bearing container without superior MASTER/MIX Label SINGLE Label on each “part-bearing” container, subordinated to a MASTER/MIX Label (lowest packaging unit) MASTER Label on the main packaging (outer packaging) of homogeneous loading units with identical article numbers (homogeneous) MIX Label on the main packaging (outer packaging) for mixed containers with different article numbers in the inner delivery units GTL Characteristics There are 3 different characteristics of the GTL depending on the business process: ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 11 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label GTL Standard with data information on the standard process GTL OT with data information on the special processes of Genuine Parts (Original Teile = OT) GTL CHAT with data information on the plant Chattanooga ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 12 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label Figure 1 links: sizes, types and characteristics. Field and line titles in the national language of the recipient plant can be agreed in case of international deliveries. The national language of the recipient plant can be selected in the case of national deliveries. The field contents must be in the same manner as the EDI data. Text data without any EDI reference, e.g. address data (From / To) must be in English in case of international deliveries. Field contents in the national language of the recipient plant may be agreed in case of international deliveries. The national language can be selected in case of national deliveries. Texts and data in the supplier field are intended for the internal use of the supplier and are not relevant to the recipient or forwarder. Use of fonts The proportionate font ARIAL or ARIAL NARLINE or similar fonts of the same family are to be used. Choose the following font sizes for the field and line titles: Minimum 8 pt. for the label size A5 Minimum 6 pt. for the SMALL Label and AIAG-B10, and/or A6. The font sizes for the data contents must be selected according to the field allocations in table 11.1. The allocation examples are oriented towards the field lengths used at VOLKSWAGEN. If the field lengths are exceeded in individual cases, the font size must be reduced to the necessary size. Contents must not be cropped. ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 15 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label 9 Barcode Code 128 (ISO/IEC 15417) is used for the License Plate exclusively. As 2D code the Data Matrix Code (ISO/IEC 16022) is to be used. 9.1 Code 128 Code 128 holds the License Plate. The readable interpretation line equals to the data content except the brackets around the data identifier and the spaces. These brackets are only printed to emphasize something in the text. They are not part of code 128. The bar width “X” for the smallest bar in code 128 equals X = minimum 0.33 mm (13mil) and maximum 0,432 mm (17mil). The quiet zone on the right and left side is at least 3 mm wide and/or 10-times the smallest bar width. The minimum height of code 128 is 15 mm for SMALL and B10 Labels, and 17 mm for A5 Labels and nominal: 20 mm. The Minimum distance to the separator above is 1 mm. 9.2 Data Matrix The Data Matrix holds the automatically readable data information in syntax ISO/IEC 15434. The minimum dot size for Data Matrix is: Xmin = 0,33 mm (13 mil). The quiet zone around the code has a minimum of 2 mm. 9.3 Restrictions at the print of barcodes Folgende Einschränkungen bei der Erzeugung der Barcodes sind zwingend zu beachten. Following restrictions regarding the generation of barcodes must be observed. The barcode 417 must not be used The supplier’s field must not contain any 1D barcode. A Data Matrix Code may be used ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 16 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label 10 Acceptance Specifications Barcode Contents and Quality The compliance of the data contents and structure to the standard must be checked computer-supported. VOLKSWAGEN uses “ScanLink” (source: www.elmicron.de) to check the structure compliance. ISO/IEC 15416 is used to check the barcode quality for code 128 and/or ISO/IEC 15415 is used for 2D codes. These norms are used to measure the quality features of the codes in “Quality Level” using barcode verifiers. The measured print quality after the printing process must be level 3.0 (B) and the quality level must not go below 1.5 (C) at the point of use. Quality tests are performed as samplings meeting the standards of the general quality check. 11 GTL Fields, Dimensions and Data Contents The following information determines the usage of the GTL fields. The data contents and the formal setup of the data elements must always be adopted from the respective EDI call-offs, if these are not data from the supplier. The information from the GTL product tag always must be identical to the delivery note information and the transport data information (ASN) as well as the transport and shipping documents. ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 17 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label 11.1 Fields, Dimensions and Designations in Label GTL SMALL Fig. 3: GTL SMALL – Fields ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 18 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label 11.2 Fields, Dimensions and Designations Label GTL A5 5 5 53 210 205 136.5 A1 A2 From SHIP FROM A3 2D SYMBOL To SHIP TO 39.5 56 B1 CUSTOMER REF. #1 Dimensions in mm 5mm edge 140.5 B2 CUSTOMER ROUTING INFO B3 LOGISTICS REF. 56.75 C ARTICLE NUMBER CUSTOMER 74 144 D2 D1 LICENSE PLATE Security symbol for relevant material (hazardous material) CUSTOMER REF: #2 108.5 136.5 E1 SUPPLIER FIELD E2 CUSTOMER REF: #3 143 148 Fig. 4: GTL A5 – Fields ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 19 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label 11.3 Field Titles GTL A5 Von From Ursprungsland Country of Origin Lieferantennummer Supplier Number An To Anlieferwerk / Anlieferstelle / Abladestelle Delivery Plant / Ship to Location / Unloading Point Verbrauchsstelle Point of Use / Line handling code Lieferscheinnummer Delivery note Number Packmitteltyp Packaging Type Füllmenge Quantity per Package Artikelnummer Article Number License Plate License Plate Brutto-Gewicht / Netto-Gewicht Gross Weight / Net Weight Datum (Lieferschein-/Verfall-/Produktions-) Date (Dispatch / Expiry / Production) Teilegenerationsstand Parts generation status Chargennummer / Anzahl Packstücke Batch Number / Number of Packages Verwendungsschlüssel Usage Code Artikelbezeichnung Article description Fig. 5: GTL A5 – Field titles with standard allocations in German / English ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 20 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label 11.4 Fields, Field Titles and Dimensions GTL B10 CHATTANOOGA 0 0 5 5 From 38,1 A1 24,4 50,8 A6:148/B10:152,4 A2 A3 Del. This is the purpose of the data identifier (F). With the segmenting, the data fields are assigned to the nested hierarchical levels. For example, article and serial number assigned to partbearing container and then to superior containers. The individual structure levels have respective level codes. Table 13.1 lists the used level codes according to EDI Syntax ANS X12, data element 735. After completion, the entire data string is embedded into syntax ISO/IEC 15434. A Data Matrix Code of a MASTER or MIX Label can be executed as a SET Code with the information of the subordinated single units. It can also be executed without this information only for the respective level. SET Codes contain the data segments of the subordinated Single Labels, surrounded by the data segment of the superior unit. Three Levels are used for the segmenting: Level “TARE” of the superior MASTER and MIX units, level “PACK” for the part-bearing containers and level “ITEM” for articles. ©Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, Department: 1836 K-SIPB 3, 2016-06.10, Volkswagen_GTL_V4.1.5_EN.docx Page: 32 Implementation Guideline Global Transport Label Level Level Name Superior units MASTER and MIX LOAD Part-bearing containers Articles Source: Note: Level Code Tare T Pack P Item I Description The tare level is used to identify pallets. If there are no identifiable pallets, this level may be omitted. The pack level is used to identify the cartons within which the item is shipped, e.g., label serial numbers. In most cases there will be some sort of packs. Stock keeping unit (SKU) identification data. Tab. 7: Level Codes Extract from the standard “ANS MH 10.8.2, Table VI – 3 – Commonly Used Hierarchical Level Codes” Only Level Codes T, P and I are used in Data Matrix Code for the GTL. Procedure for segmenting Data Matrix Code contents in superior and subordinated levels. First, Level Identifiers are used to prepare the hierarchical structure. Then, the data elements receive the DI “F” and the corresponding “Parent Child IDs”. Finally, the entire data string is put in syntax ISO/IEC 15434. Unloading Point The “Unloading Point” for the OT Special Processes is 453T0. Point of Use Instead of the ship to location or point of use the SAP Account Number of the recipient, e.g. a distribution center has to be entered. In special OT call-off (DELJIT CALDEL), the SAP Account Number of the goods recipient is transmitted into the NAD segment with the qualifier CN instead of the recipient plant. License Plate Here, the LHM number as a 12-digit package number has to be entered. It differs from all other delivery processes. The LHM number is composed of the first three digits of the VOLKSWAGEN Supplier number + Index + 8-digit package number. Example: Old supplier number 5-digits and 1 digit index: 0252210 = 25221/0 => 252012345678 New supplier number 7-digits and 2 digits index: 0012563300 = 125633/0 => 125012345678.
