Engineering
The creative application of scientific principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or
manufacturing processes, or works utilizing them singly or in combination; or to construct or operate the
same with full cognizance of their design; or to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions; all
as respects an intended function, economics of operation and safety to life and property
Civil
Ancillary Room
Discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the
physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads,
and buildings.
A room that serves in a subsidiary capacity.
Bridge
A structure built to span a valley, road, railroad track, river, body of water, or any
other physical obstacle, for the purpose of providing passage over the obstacle.
Catwalk
Narrow footbridges or walkways high in the air to allow workers access to parts
of a structure otherwise difficult to reach.
Dry Stone Wall
A wall that is constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together.
Embankment
An artificial bank raised above the immediately-surrounding land to redirect or
prevent flooding by a river, lake or sea.
Fire Hydrant
An active fire protection measure, and a source of water provided in most urban,
suburban and rural areas with municipal water service to enable fire fighters to
tap into the municipal water supply to assist in extinguishing a fire.
Gate
A point of exit to a space enclosed by walls, or an opening in a fence. Gates may
prevent or control entry or exit, or they may be merely decorative.
Generator
A machine that converts mechanical energy into electrical.
Junction Box
A container for electrical junctions, usually intended to conceal them from sight
and to some extent to eliminate tampering.
Litter Bin
A container for temporarily storing waste.
Milestone
A series of numbered markers placed along a road or boundary at regular
intervals, typically at the side of the road or in a median.
Pathway
A way beaten, formed, or trodden by the feet of persons or animals.
Pipeline
A long tubular conduit or series of pipes, often underground, with pumps and
valves for flow control, used to transport crude oil, natural gas, water, etc., esp.
over great distances
Post Box
A physical box intended for use by the general public in order to collect outgoing
mail (mail sent to a destination).
Railway
A track composed of a line of parallel metal rails fixed to sleepers, on which
trains run.

Road
an identifiable route, way or path between places. Roads are typically smoothed,
paved, or otherwise prepared to allow easy travel, though they need not be, and
historically many roads were simply recognizable routes without any formal
construction or maintenance.
Sea Wall
a form of hard and strong coastal defence constructed on the inland part of a
coast to reduce the effects of strong waves.
Stairs
designed to bridge a large vertical distance by dividing it into smaller vertical
distances, called steps. Stairways may be straight, round, or may consist of two
or more straight pieces connected at angles.
Telephone Booth
small structure furnished with a payphone and designed for a telephone user's
convenience. Such a booth usually has a door to provide privacy and a window
to let others know if the booth is in use.
Tunnel
A tunnel is an underground passageway. In general, tunnels are at least twice as
long as they are wide. In addition, they should be completely enclosed on all
sides, save for the openings at each end.
Ventilation Shaft
are vertical passages used to move fresh air underground, and to remove stale
air.
Hydraulic
Involving, moved by, or operated by a fluid, especially water, under pressure
Aqueduct
A water supply or navigable channel (conduit) constructed to convey water.
Canal
artificial channels for water. There are two types of canals: aqueduct (or water
conveyance) canals are used for the conveyance and delivery of water, and
waterway canals are navigable transportation canals used for passage of goods
and people, often connected to existing lakes, rivers, or oceans.
Dam
A barrier that impounds water or underground streams. Dams generally serve
the primary purpose of retaining water, while other structures such as floodgates
or levees (also known as dikes) are used to manage or prevent water flow into
specific land regions.
Drinking Trough
A receptacle for the storage of water so both domestic and non-domestic
livestock can obtain drinking water.
Reservoir
A place or hollow vessel where fluid is kept in reserve for later use.
Water Tower
A large elevated water storage container constructed for the purpose of holding a
water supply at a height sufficient to pressurize a water distribution system.
Pump Stations
Pumping stations are facilities including pumps and equipment for pumping fluids
from one place to another.
Sump
A sump is a low space that collects any often-undesirable liquids such as water
or chemicals.
Watermill
a structure that uses a water wheel or turbine to drive a mechanical process

wire drawing).
Watering Trough
A receptacle for the storage of water so both domestic and non-domestic

Maritime
Maritime may refer to things related to the sea or ocean, sailors or sailing.
Stone Quay
A structure on navigable water used for loading and unloading vessels.
Military
A military is an organization authorised by its nation to use force, usually
including use of weapons, in defending its country (or by attacking other
countries) by combating actual or perceived threats.

or fasten something else.
Buffer Zone
An area that surrounds a protected area and either serves to provide benefits to
nearby human communities or to mitigate adverse effects from human activities
outside the area.
