Overview of the individual modules and components.
Here you choose which elements you would like in your RTK7. Certain modules are
positioned in the main beacons, others have been designed for placement in the
central section of the housing. On page 3 you will find the the inner dimensions
available for module placement at the front and rear in the remaining widths
calculator columns. Enter the values relevant for your system width in the columns
and subtract the module dimensions of the elements you require accordingly at the
front or back. Now transfer the new remaining widths to the next page.
The order form.
Mark the modules and components you want with a cross and send the form to Hella.
You can see an example below.

IBScontrol: Powerful vehicle electric system in any condition.
Checks energy reserves and regeneration ability
! Intelligent battery sensor with colour display for 12 V vehicle
electric systems.
! Precise determination and representation of battery capacity,
aging and remaining running time.
! Convenient retrofit energy management.
! The emergency vehicle is connected to the charge maintenance
socket, everything is OK. Then the battery suddenly goes flat
during operation. That's the end of it! There are a multitude of
possible reasons. For one thing, vehicles contain more and more
consumers. In addition, as batteries get older, they are no longer
able to be charged up to 100% of their nominal capacity. Hella’s
IBScontrol measures the actual battery capacity still available and
shows it clearly on a colour display.
! Permanent monitoring of the battery
! The most important information at a glance
! Precision due to battery-specific adjustment
! Energy management of consumers
! Intuitive control
! Very simple mounting due to plug-and-play installation
Surface-mount version
54
Flush-mount version
Permanent monitoring of the battery
Continuous calculation and display of the current state of charge and
health of the battery.
Intuitive control
The menu guidance of IBScontrol makes straightforward and
intuitive operation possible.
The most important information at a glance
Direct indication of battery capacity, battery aging, current
consumption and remaining running time on a graphical colour
display.
Very simple mounting due to plug-and-play installation
The prefabricated wire harness and battery pole adapter make
installation easier (without the ground cable having to be
disconnected).
Precision due to battery-specific adjustment
Battery-specific adjustment of characteristic curves for standard
starters, gel and AGM batteries makes high system precision
possible.
Saving energy with automatic switch-off
The automatic switch-off feature of the IBScontrol and three different
display brightness levels ensure the system itself only has minimum
current consumption.
Energy management of consumers
The four individually programmable switch outputs of the IBScontrol
allow consumers, chargers and alternators to be switched off and
on.
Data recording on microSD card
In order to analyse consumer behaviour, all the data can be recorded
and evaluated easily via MS Office. Data logging on SD-card with
simple evaluation via MS Office.

Intelligent Battery Sensor
ISBcontrol: The advantages in detail
IBScontrol: Technical details
To be able to deal carefully with the vehicle battery, you need to
know the state of charge, state of health and about any changes to
the battery. The IBScontrol provides information about the current
state of the energy balance, making it possible to plan energy
reserves. It indicates the state of charge, age of the battery, currents
flowing in and out, and can intervene actively in the energy balance
and issue a warning if the residual capacity reaches a critical value.
Schematic diagram of IBScontrol connection
! You need the IBScontrol kit surface-mount or flush-mount version
for connection
How it works
The IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) is located directly on the negative
battery pole and registers the following through the integrated shunt
and the sensor:
! The battery’s open-circuit voltage
! All currents flowing in and out
! The ambient temperature
of the battery
To enable the provision of reliable information, the IBScontrol can be
adapted to the specific battery by selecting the characteristic curve of
the battery (gel, AGM, standard starter). The information is provided
at a glance on the graphical colour display. Consumers can be
switched off or on at a critical energy level via four independent
switch outputs which can be programmed individually.
2
4
In addition, an acoustic signal integrated in the display can be
programmed to issue a warning before the battery goes dead.
To avoid the output signal switching on and off all the time, a defined
value is set in the IBScontrol display as the switching distance
(hysteresis) between the switch-on and switch-off values.

LED indicators and the patented failure check
Legal requirement in all ECE states
In the case of vehicles approved for use on public roads, the
indicators must be monitored: the failure of an indicator must be
shown optically or acoustically in the vehicle. This applies in all ECE
states. This means possible indicator failure must be monitored by
the vehicle. Manufacturers use different control procedures for this.
The failure checks currently in use cannot detect simple LED lights
and indicate a fault. All Hella LED indicators have integrated
electronics for the failure check. The indicators are self-monitoring.
They generate an impulse that is evaluated by the electronic ballast.
This ballast simulates a 21 W bulb, which makes operation with
conventional flasher units possible.
Safe conversion to LED indicators using patented Hella
electronics
Hella supplies electronic ballasts for all Hella LED indicators which
makes it possible to convert the indicator failure display for various
vehicles. This is necessary if the vehicle manufacturer does not
guarantee indicator bulb failure checking via the vehicle electric
system.
The method has been patented by Hella. At the moment there are
three different ballasts and several different LED indicator types
available.
As soon as one single LED fails, the light can be considered faulty,
the impulse is not generated. The ballast then switches the bulb
simulation off and the flasher unit indicates a fault to the vehicle
driver.
LED-light failure check and correct electrical connection
On account of the low Watt power of LED lights, which distinguishes
them significantly from filament bulb versions, there can be
problems with the bulb failure check during operation on different
traction vehicles. As checking of the indicators is required by law, we
recommend operating the light only in conjunction with the indicator
control unit, Hella part no. 5DS 009 552-... .
In addition, further lighting functions are detected by some
traction vehicles. This is a vehicle comfort function which is not
required by legislation and does not release drivers from their
obligation to see for themselves that the lighting equipment is
working. Here, too, faulty diagnosis can occur on account of the
low power levels involved (instrument panel in the driver cab
indicates light failure although the function is working).
Side lighting
Operation of the LED light with AC voltage or synchronised DC
voltage is not permitted. The individual light functions may only be
operated with a vehicle fuse of max. 3 A.
If faulty diagnoses such as the ones described above occur during
operation of your traction vehicle type, please contact the
vehicle manufacturer.

Optical or optical and acoustic warning systems, beacons and
auxiliary lighting systems from Hella are developed according to the
strictest quality standards.
2
Hella test their suitability for everyday life in the
toughest of test series, in the test laboratory and in field tests:
! Test series to prevent penetration of water and dust
(IP protective category)
! Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
! Thermal tests
(temperature shocks or fluctuations)
! Life tests
! Electronic tests (polarity reversal, short circuit etc.)
! Vibration tests

2) Protective category test (splashwater)
3) Thermal testing in the climate cabinet
4) Life test
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)
What is EMC?
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is a major quality feature
for optical and acoustic signaling systems and describes two
factors:
! Radiated interference: the limitation of radiated electromagnetic
interference to a level that guarantees the interference-free
operation of other devices in the environment
! Immunity to interference: guaranteeing sufficiently high
resistance to electro-magnetic interference acting from the
outside
Legal basis:
- Radiated interference CISPR 25
- Immunity to interference ISO 7637 and 11452
Protective classes standard CISPR 25
The standard concerning interference has a classification system
ranging from 1 to 5, whereby class 5 products satisfy the highest
requirements and e.g. enable completely interference-free use of
special signal units and radios.
Hella product quality
All Hella lighting systems fulfil Class 5 almost exclusively, and
guarantee absolute functional safety in all application situations.
80
Hella competence / know-how
Hella has been operating its own EMC laboratory since 1970, which is
accredited by the Federal Department of Motor Vehicles (KBA).
State-of-the-art equipment makes an efficient and high-quality
product development and qualification process possible in line with
the legal requirements.
IP protective category
IP stands for International Protection. The IP protective categories are determined according to DIN 40050 Part 9.
The purpose of the standard is the exact definition against the penetration of solid foreign materials including dust and against water penetration.
Hella products meet the highest requirements and are ideally protected against all kinds of weather conditions.
