Institution and Geology Department:
In the year 1935, the Darbar High School was given the Status

were established. In 1943 Graduation and in 1956 Post
Graudation classes were started. In 1958, name of Darbar
College was changed to Govt. Thakur Ranmat Singh
Mahavidhyalaya. Govt. Science College was founded with all
Science subjects in the year 1957-58. In 1985, the Govt. of M.P.
conferred the status of Model to this College.
The department of Geology was started by Dr.P.S. Agarkar in
the year 1957-58 and Post graduate classes were started in the
year 1969 under the headship of Prof. R.P. Mishra. Prof. S.C.
Verma, Prof. W. N. Bansode, Prof. A.P. Agrawal, Prof. K.L.
Maheshwari, Prof. D.P. Dubey and Prof. G.P. Pandey also acted
as head of the department. Prof. R.N Tiwari is currently heading
the department since June 2015. He is in the editorial team of
various National & International journals.
The department has a decent museum with rich collection of
samples of rocks, minerals and fossils, equipped laboratory and
library with more than 2000 books and various referred
journals. The department has produced more than 30 Ph.D.
Scholars in various fields of earth science and about 10 students
are currently enrolled for Ph.D.
Objective:
The conference is primarily focused on mineral and water
resources which are essential component for development and
prosperity of our country. India is the fifth mineral resource rich
country in the world that forms the backbone of our industries
and economy; they are also the pillars to modern
civilization.Explosive growth of population, rapid urbanisation
and industrialisation have put immense pressure on these
resources. The non-renewable mineral is wealthiest, now,
threatened by over-exploitation and unsustained development
projects. We, therefore have to prepare a set of comprehensive,
well-balanced and informative guidelines, focusing on various
measures for their sustainable exploitation, balancing with
natural environment and ecological security. Beside these, the
management of water resources is also one of the most
challenging problem being faced today by the organizations
dealing with groundwater. Keeping the above facts in view,
the Department of Geology is going to organise the National
Conference on "Recent Advancements in Mineral and Water
Resources". We hope that the deliberations, suggestions and
recommendation of the conference will be useful to academicians,
research Scholars, industrialists, policy makers, stake holders etc.
