At present the Institute has eleven departments and three inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines. Presently, IIT Guwahati has one of the finest world class infrastructures with state of the art engineering and scientific instruments for carrying out advanced research. It is considered as one of the most beautiful campuses sprawling around 285 hectares of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra. The campus is about 25 Km from the heart of the city. The city of Guwahati is the gateway to North East India and connected to many major cities in the country by rail and air. Weather during summer is hot and humid with temperatures varying between 250C-320C. Summer span is usually from May to September. Buses (opposite to RBI, Cotton College Hostel road), autorickshaws and taxis are available from Guwahati city to the IIT Guwahati Campus. It gives us immense pleasure to cordially invite you to the National Conference on Recent Advancement in Environmental Research organized by Centre for the Environment, IIT Guwahati on June 4-5, 2016. Centre for the Environment, IIT Guwahati has come forward in organising this conference with an objective of discussing and spreading awareness about challenging environmental issues in the recent times like climate change, urbanisation and many more. The conference will conduct some important lectures and poster presentation by invited delegates and participantshighlighting the different fields of their research. The invitation is open for active participation of all academicians, young researchers, professionals, students and NGO’s. They are requested to submit their abstracts for paper/poster presentation before deadline. About the organizers The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has visualized an active role for itself in dealing with new directions and concerns emerging from various day to day environmental problems. In order to give a concrete shape to this visualization, IIT Guwahati established full-fledged Centre for the Environment, in May 2004. It has started the interdisciplinary research programme from the academic year 2005-2006 leading to PhD degree. The main objectives of Centre for the Environment are: Promote multi-disciplinary research for addressing vital issues with special focus on NE India, Collaborative research and teaching, consultancy and technical support, capacity building in environment and related subjects, create public awareness and train manpower for mitigating environmental problems. Maximum five abstracts will be selected for oral presentation,out of them two best presentation would be awarded.All other selected abstracts will be considered for poster presentation.Two best posters would be awarded.
