SEQUENT 56: MULTIPOINT SEQUENTIAL INJECTION SYSTEM FOR 5-6-8 CYLINDER VEHICLES
FIELD OF APPLICATION
Sequent 56 is the evolution of the multipoint
injection system for LPG by BRC.
New concept product, Sequent 56 is a sideline
of the other appreciated gaseous injection
systems in automotive field, where BRC is a
pioneer, improving the system for performance,
easiness and cheapness.
Studied and designed to satisfy high level exigencies, it can feed
modern and powerful vehicles till 8 cylinders and over 5000 cm3.
Fed powers exceed 30 kW/cylinder reaching nearly a total of
240 kW (326 CV). You can indifferently convert vehicles with
vacuum or turbo engine.
Sequent 56 multipoint Sequential injection System proved to
obtain very good results as emission levels satisfying the strictest
anti-pollution norms that are compulsory for last generation vehicles.
The use of clean fuels such as LPG avoids creating some polluting
agents as PM10 (main cause of the traffic limitations) and reduces
CO2 emissions (main “hot-house” gas).
Sequent 56 is easy and fast to install, with high performance continuing the improvement trend of BRC trademark able to offer the
installers and final customers a high level product, with the most
powerful software strategies for the set up but faster and easier to
use and learn thanks to the interface improvement.
The installer is able to install and set up the system without help.
A guided process studied for his exigencies will guide him in a
short time through all the calibration phases allowing carrying out
precise and correct set up, in an easy and fast
way.
Also from the electric and mechanical point
of view, Sequent 56 has been studied to
allow the installer to have an easy work with
reduced overall dimensions.
In fact sensors, emulators or other devices
normally placed under the bonnet are not
needed. Gas temperature sensor is installed
on the injector rail while the cooling liquid
temperature is controlled by the sensor
contained in the pressure reducer.
The ECU and harness overall dimensions
have been reduced too compared to previous
models with the same performance.
As for the electric connections, a few ones have to be plugged
such us the battery and the positive after turning the key and the
system is able to run properly.
The system has been studied with the most updated methods
allowing high quality standard as for mechanic strength, operative
temperature, protection against accidental short-circuits and installation mistakes.
Sequent 56 passed strict reliability tests for each component and
on the whole system obtaining a quality worthy of the modern automotive standard.
Moreover all the protections and precautions required to BRC
have been adopted to satisfy the car manufacturers market (filters,
waterproof connections, protection against installation mistakes,
et.)
COMPONENTS
Sequent 56 is made up with the most updated components BRC
can offers its customers, thanks to a continuous electronic and
mechanical research that characterises BRC trademark since ever.
ECU
Completely redesigned, the ECU integrates the most update components and a new microprocessor able to execute calculations
necessary to control the engine in very short time with precise and
fast answers. The system is able to assure the best integration for
both electronic and communication level (with a serial line K and
CAN BUS) without changing the petrol control strategies and “translating” the petrol ECU injection timing in gas one in a precise and
fast way and adapting automatically itself to the gas pressure and
temperature changes.
Moreover the ECU has other functions among which the
automatic changeover and sequential from petrol to gas during
whatever driving conditions (acceleration, deceleration and idling)
and whatever rpm (BRC patent). It is suitable to satisfy OBD norms.
Reducer
Sequent 56 can be paired to various models of Genius reducers
to supply easily different engine powers and different fuels. The
reducer is very small, insensitive to vehicle acceleration and can be
installed with different orientations. The gas heating and its vaporisation are assured by an effective thermic exchange with the engine
cooling liquid.
A temperature sensor for the cooling liquid is placed on the
reducer body.
Rail and injectors
Gas injectors installed in the suitable rail designed by BRC has
the aim to supply the gas in each cylinder in sequential process and
in the most suitable moment to reach a good combustion. In a
sequential system, each injector receives the ECU electric signal
independently from the others and supplies a calibrated gas
quantity inside the cylinder and during this latter aspiration phase.
Sequent 56 can manage different types of injectors to adapt itself
in the best way to the engine characteristics of the installed
vehicles.
FJ1 HE Filter
This is a new concept filter, very small and with high performance whose aim is to filter the fuel during gaseous phase. It is placed
between reducer and injectors rail and keeps all solid, oily or other
impurities that can be affect the efficiency of
gas injectors.
OPERATION
The task of the ECU is to “translate” the
petrol ECU will in a gas operation that
perfectly corresponds to the petrol one.
During the gas operation, petrol injection
times are read by Sequent 56 ECU and,
according to the received information on gas
pressure and temperature and other parameters, converts them in injection timing for the
gas injectors to supply the correct quantity to
the engine. The gas ECU carries out the gas
injection on the same cylinder for which the injection timing for the
petrol has been taken and with a negligible delay.
By doing this, the petrol ECU continues to control the engine
managing the strategies the car manufacturer designed for each
rpm and engine load conditions. The out of rpm, the cut-off release,
the traction control, the injectors cut-off on the cylinders where the
ignition is not operated and the carburettor control during the
canister draining phase, the control for the air conditioning
operation, the changes of the power steering load, electric loads,
full load enrichments, etc are maintained and managed as usual.
The result is a very good driving in all conditions with a power
loss that is not relevant.
The changeover is completely automatic and sequential in order
to reduce jerking at idling or fast and unpleasant torque changes
according to a strategy patented by BRC.
The system is able to recognise if it is not possible to correctly
feed the engine because of gas lack or because of low pressure in
the gas supply. In this case, with the changeover switch on gas
position (right position) the system automatically changes to petrol
(in these conditions the vehicle could run with petrol for short
moments)
The system can automatically change to gas if it recognises to be
able to correctly feed the engine. If, on the contrary, the system is
not able, an acoustic signal and the switching on of the changeover switch red led will inform the driver about that. The acoustic
signal can be deactivated by clicking the switch on petrol position
(left position). At this point it is necessary to fill up the tank to
normally run the vehicle with gas.
The gas-petrol changeover strategy can be also adopted to
optimise the vehicle operation but only in particular cases and for
very short instants.

THE INTERFACE SOFTWARE
SEQUENT is a versatile system thanks to powerful interface software developed by BRC. With a PC the software allows communicating with
Sequent 56 ECU and entering all the functions.
Sequent 56 ECU programming.
The ECU programming to reach a correct vehicle operation is simple and fast when the maps are already available on BRC Internet site or at
the dealers’ or from previous installations made by the installer. A simple and guided procedure allows developing autonomously the maps for
those vehicles when these are not yet available.
Set up.
The maps improvement, the driving and power refining when necessary, the adaptation of the
available maps for different vehicles are “open functions”. Thanks to these, the installer has direct
access to many of the set up parameters allowing obtaining very goods results even in difficult
vehicles.
Diagnostic.
Thanks to diagnostic functions it is easy to control the correct installation or cause of a possible
problem. The possibility to operate the actuators to control the correct operation, the display as
numbers and graphic of all data of the system operation, makes this interface software an instrument able to make complex operations very simple.
Offline/utility.
A series of functions, even if disconnected from the ECU, allows the review and change of previously recorded data and maps organising a file or preparing a further work.
