Hence, the new products incorporate both the experiences from more than 10 years of dedicated development work as well as the practical field experiences from more than 50 transcritical systems in operation in European supermarkets and industries. The product combines many demanded properties and solutions to always ensure high operational reliability, stable temperature control and low cost operation and ownership. CO2 is applied as the only refrigerant, CO2 is neither flammable nor toxic and therefore offers many advantages with respect to installation, safety and maintenance. How it saves energy The design criteria of the systems has been to match the design point COP² as a minimum² of hydrocarbon and HFC water chillers working at Northern climate conditions. The reduced temperature difference of the CO2 solution compared to water cooling system is the key to successfully achieving the design target for energy consumption. As a further consequence, the efficiency exceeds the ones of HFC and hydrocarbon at lower ambient temperatures thus the seasonal energy consumption of CO2 is between 10-20% less, depending on the installation and application. The units have a special intermediate pressure receiver fulfilling the same function as the traditional liquid receiver. The intermediate pressure receiver is designed for 90 bar stand still pressure and with sufficient volume to facilitate a pump down operation to stock the entire refrigerant charge in the vessel during all exterior conditions. The liquid is distributed from the intermediate pressure receiver to the evaporators and expanded directly through electronically controlled injection valves. For the application of air conditioning a minimum design pressure of 60 bar of all system components, including custom made evaporator coils, injection valves and controls ensures a reliable and safe operation. The entire system is based on Danfoss ADAP COOL technology thus providing one fully integrated network for controls and supervision. Eliminate the water circuits CO2 technology eliminates the need for indirect water systems for coils and dry coolers. Obviously this results in a reduction of the cycle temperature differences on both the cooling and the condensing side. The elimination of water pumps adds further to the savings on operating and maintenance costs.
