GENERAL Alkco LINCS are designed for modular plug-together connection. The first unit may be hard-wired with the provided hardware or plugged-in for portable installation using optional straight or coiled cordsets. Additional units simply plug into the first. Optional straight and coiled interconnect cords electrically continue a run of LINCS around corners or over gaps. An optional wiring module can decrease installation time by eliminating the need to open fixture wireways. Optional Mounting Equipment (order separately) Interconnect Cords Power Cords ICS PC3, PC6, PC10 ICF DIMMING CONSIDERATIONS PCF4 Alkco Halo gen Undercabinet Luminaires are low-voltage fixtures. Not all incandescent dimmers are designed to work with these units. Use only those dimmers approved by Alkco with these fixtures. A list of approved dimmers appears on page 4. Wiring Module LINCS 100-1 1 INSTALLATION WARNING 4. Lift the first fixture (or optional wiring module) into place so its rear edge aligns the line drawn in step 3. Make sure it is in the exact position. 5. When the fixture is positioned correctly, use the mounting ears as templates, and secure the fixture with #6 flat-head screws (G). 6. If the fixture is to be hard-wired, refer to Section III “Electrical Connection — Hard-wired Units”, before mounting any additional units. Follow that procedure before performing steps 7 and 8 for each subsequent fixture. 7. Lift each additional fixture into place so the rear edge aligns the line drawn in step 3, and the Molex® connector engages securely with that of the previously mounted unit. The mounting ears on the mating end slips between the mounting surface and the previously mounted unit. 8. Use mounting ears on the opposite end and secure the fixture at that end using #6 flat-head screws (G). LIGHTED LAMP IS HOT! TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY TO PERSONS: 1. TURN OFF/UNPLUG AND ALLOW TO COOL BEFORE REPLACING LAMP. 2. LAMP GETS HOT QUICKLY! C O N TACT ONLY SWITCH/ PLUG WHEN TURNING ON. 3. DO NOT TOUCH HOT LENS, GUARD, OR ENCLOSURE. 4. DO NOT REMAIN IN LIGHT IF SKIN FEELS WARM. 5. DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT LIGHTED LAMP. NOTE Longer fixtures have mounting holes in the middle of the lamp compartment in case the unit does not mount flush. Remove the diffuser and secure the middle of the fixture with the #8 truss screw (K). 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for each additional fixture to be mounted. Ensure that the last fixture has an end cap cover installed over the unused connector. Place the end cap cover locking clip in position and secure with the #6-20 screw (J). 6. KEEP LAMP AWAY FROM MATERIALS THAT MAY BURN. 7. USE ONLY WITH A 20 WATT OR SMALLER LAMP. WARNING I. (HARD-WIRED UNITS) IF SUPPLY WIRES ARE LOCATED WITHIN THREE INCHES OF TRANSFORMER, USE WIRE RATED FOR AT LEAST 90°C (194°F). RISK OF FIRE. MOST DWELLINGS BUILT BEFORE 1985 HAVE SUPPLY WIRE RATED AT 60°C. CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN BEFORE INSTALLING. II. Electrical Connection — Units With Cordset 1. Connect the ac cord into the left end of the fixture(s), using hardware supplied and following instructions supplied with cord set kit. Cover the other end with an end cap cover. Place the end cap cover locking clip in position and secure with the #6-20 screw (J). Mounting Instructions 2. Plug the ac cord into a grounded, 120 V, 60 Hz receptacle. The Alkco LINCS fixtures are designed to be individually mounted or row mounted by plugging into each other. The connection to ac power can be hard-wired or plugged in with an optional ac power cord. Use the following procedure to mount Alkco LINCS 100 series fixtures. 3. Test the fixture(s). Refer to the Troubleshooting Table for additional information. III. Electrical Connection — Hard-wired Units NOTE If using optional wiring module, follow instructions provided in that package. 1. Refer to Figure 2 and remove the two screws securing the diffuser and remove the diffuser. 1. Determine where the fixture(s) will be mounted. 2. Ensure that there is adequate room for the depth of the fixtures, and adequate clearance on the sides or back for the electrical feed, ac cord, and/or optional interconnect cord. For each end cap cover allow 7/16” clearance, and when row mounting in a confined space, allow 1” for joining the last unit. NOTE If multiple fixtures are being mounted together, they must be mounted in a straight line. Otherwise, electrical contact between units may not be properly made, and fixtures may fail to operate correctly. 3. Draw a straight line indicating the position for the back edge of all the fixtures. Figure 2 2 2. Open the wireway cover by removing the screws from either side as shown in Figure 3. Carefully pivot the wireway cover down until it hangs from its rear hinge. Figure 5. Direct Wiring into End the optional dual-circuit switch. Connect the ac feed to the three pigtails provided between the two Molex connectors in the diagram. Be sure wirenuts are secure and no strands of wire are left exposed. 7. Make sure the fixture is properly grounded. Use the green pigtail provided for this purpose. Figure 3 NOTE The incoming electrical feed may be connected at the rear of the fixture or at either free end. 3. If the electrical feed is to the rear, remove the rear knockout. Refer to Figure 4 and install the connector as shown. 8. Reposition wires neatly in the wireway and close the wireway cover. Re-install the two screws in the channel above the lamp space. 9. If mounting a single fixture, test it now. Refer to the Troubleshooting Table for additional information. If mounting multiple fixtures, return to the “Mounting Instructions” and perform steps 7 and 8 in this section for each additional fixture. Figure 4. Direct-Wiring into Rear Knock-out 4. If the electrical feed is at a side of the fixture, the Molex connector will need to be removed from the plastic end cap. Squeeze the fasteners on each side of the connector and push the Molex connector into the housing. Place the metal hard wire plate in place into the end of the plastic end cap. See Figure 5. WARNING Figure 6. Standard Wiring Diagram BE CERTAIN THAT POWER IS TURNED OFF BE FORE CONNECTING FIXTURE TO SUPPLY LINES. LIVE WIRES PRESENT A POTENTIALLY FATAL SHOCK HAZARD. NOTE Be sure all wiring is in accordance with local, state, and national electrical codes. NOTE Fixtures are intended to be connected to a 3-wire source of supply (hot, neutral, and ground). 5. Using the FMC/Romex connector supplied, secure the proper length power supply wiring to the housing as shown in Figure 5. 6. Connect the power supply wiring as shown in Figure 6. Figure 7 illustrates typical wiring for a unit with Figure 7. Wiring Diagram w/Optional 2-Circuit Switch 3 APPROVED DIMMERS IV. HALOGEN LAMP REPLACEMENT IMPORTANT! Be sure to read and observe all points of the Warning under “Installation.” The following list of dimmers have been shown to work with the Alkco Halogen Undercabinet Luminaires. Manufacturer Lutron 1. Remove the two screws securing the diffuser and remove the diffuser. 2. Gently remove the old lamp, by pulling it straight out. NOTE Do not touch the new lamp with your bare hand. The natural oils in your hand will leave a residue on the lamp and shorten its life. 3. Use a clean rag to handle the new lamp. Insert the new lamp into the socket. 4. Re-install the diffuser and secure with two screws.
