Brook Crompton’s flameproof motors are designated
Ex d(e) flameproof and are designed for operation in Zone
1 hazardous areas. They comply with all relevant national
and international standards. They are of a rugged cast iron
construction to withstand an internal explosion.
Outputs range from 0.37kW to 200kW with smaller
or larger outputs on request.
Standard motors are suitable for applications classified T4, in
addition, T5 and T6 can be supplied, although this may involve
reduced outputs.

W Range
The Brook Crompton W motor range is a high quality, high
variant product with outputs from 0.07kW to 400kW in frame
sizes 80 to 355L (for cast iron range) and WU-DA63S to
WU-DA180L (aluminium range). They are suitable for use within
a diverse range of applications from food and drink, china clay
production to water and sewage.
From roller table drives to refrigeration. Many applications often
have adverse operating conditions including repeated starting
and occasional overloading; the ‘W’ range is well suited to
these situations. A virtual “go anywhere” motor that has a full
three year guarantee.
Some of the benefits of aluminium over cast iron, include, high
resistance to corrosion and atmospheric attack (except chlorine,
salt-laden or sulphuric acid) and the fact that aluminium is
approximately one third the weight of cast iron.

The Pump Genius process control software enables engineers to optimise their
pumping systems, so they run more efficiently. The software is designed to reduce
pumping system operation and maintenance costs while increasing process

MUNSCH Chemical pumps are non-metallic pumps designed for
maximum operating reliability, easy maintenance and lowest lifecycle
cost to operate in abrasive and aggressive service conditions.
Every pump is designed exactly to customer’s specification, and tested to
EN ISO 9906 standards before it leaves the factory. Dedicated Assembly
Engineers take full responsibility for the complete assembly of each of their
assigned pumps, which results in shorter delivery times an increased quality.
Munsch pumps are available in a variety of materials specifically suited to the
liquid being used in the application.
On request all pumps are available to be supplied with conformance
to EU directive 94/9/EC for use in hazardous areas.

Jabsco Hygienic Rotary Lobe Pumps
DRIVES AND
PUMPS
Jabsco’s latest rotary positive displacement pump incorporates the very latest
in hygienic design concepts in order to fulfil the ever-increasing customer demands
for improved cleanability, hygiene and sterilisation. This design uses a bi-wing
rotor, which encompasses the very best features of tri-lobe pumps and circumferential
piston pumps. The pump is built upon Jabsco’s 40 years’ experience of producing
and supplying their Flexible Impeller and 24 Series rotary lobe pump to the world’s
most demanding markets.
Design Features and Benefits:

How do they work?
1. Fluid is drawn into the pump and
completely fills the space between
the rotors.
2. Held between the rotor lobes and the
pump case, closed cells of fluid are
carried smoothly through the pump.
3. The intermeshing rotor lobes positively
displace the fluid volume, generating
flow and overcoming the discharge
pressure.

Flexible Impeller Pumps
Jabsco Flexible Impeller Pumps are the cost effective alternative to air
operated diaphragm, progressive cavity, gear and peristaltic pumps.
They are used in a variety of applications including chemical transfer, food and dairy,
beverage, pharmaceutical, agricultural and ink transfer.

Flexible Impeller
Pump Principle
On start-up, air in the inlet pipe is displaced
and liquid is drawn into pump (1) then carried
through (2) to be discharged at a steady rate
(3). This action combines gentle pumping with
true dry priming capability.

The use of rotary lobe pumps on site is to transport viscous liquids, such as syrups, to
the cereal coating areas. Many of these rotary lobe pumps require mechanical seals
that are flushed with water to prevent crystallisation and hardening of the product on
seal faces. Should this happen, it can cause catastrophic damage and un-scheduled
interruption to the production process.
Situation
The current make of pump was obsolete and only manufactured on a special basis with
extended lead times. There are also many variations of the same type of pump held in stock
increasing the stores inventory value. In addition the seal flush water in the existing pumps
needed to be heated to 60°C with 75 tonnes of steam p.a. required to herat the water.
Solution
The solution was to replace these units with Jabsco Hy-Line Rotary Lobe pumps. These are
readily available on much shorter lead time, with improved performance and designed for
easier maintenance and repairs. In addition to this we have successfully trialled the innovative
use of automatic ‘Simalube’ food grade lubricants on the faces of the mechanical seals to
eliminate the use of a conventional water flush system.
Saving
These innovations solve an issue of obsolescence, while providing reduced stock holding,
rationalisation and standardisation of spares, along with energy savings on water consumption,
and heat. Pumps are now being systematically changed in the plant for the Jabsco Hy-Line
model complete with the new mechanical seal support solution. ERIKS are now assembling
these units in-house and can offer complete customisation packages.
