2. DESCRIPTION OF DUST
COLLECTOR
The Dust/Media Collector is available in a front-load
(Model DA) and two-side-load (Model DB and Model
DBM) configurations.
Your air cleaner is supplied with prefilter and primary
filter sections selected to suit your application. The
prefilter section traps most of the larger particles and
some of the smaller ones, allowing the primary filter
section to operate at its higher efficiency over periods
of time.
The following describe each of the filter options.
3. INSPECTION NOTE
Upon receipt of your unit, check for any shipping
damage. A damaged carton indicates that the
equipment may have received rough handling during
shipping that may have caused possible internal
damage. Notify your delivering carrier and enter a
claim if any damage is found.

4. INSTALLATION
When your air cleaner is used as a ducted source
collector, the enclosure or pickup hood design is
important for adequate capture of contaminants. Drive
pulleys and belts have been selected to provide airflow
at the design static pressure specified. Pulley and belt
diameters should not be changed without first
contacting UAS.

The air cleaner should not be used for support of
personnel or material.
Your air cleaner is designed for suspended mounting.
It can be provided with eyebolts for chain hanging, but
the length of chain should be kept to a minimum. The
preferred method of hanging is with 1/2" all-thread rod,
threaded directly into the 1/2" weld nuts provided in the
top of the cabinets. If chain is used, it should be
welded-link-type with a 1,000 lb. test strength or better.
“S” hooks used for connections should be closed. The
chain should be hung vertically. If any angle is
introduced, the chain and fasteners should be sized to
handle the added tension. Figures 1A and 1B show the
acceptable methods for suspending the units. See
Figures 2, 3 and 4 for dimensions and hole patterns.

A. METAL TRUSS SUPPORTED CEILINGS
Figure 5 shows a unit suspended from a metal truss
supported ceiling. Care must be taken to determine
that the truss will be sufficient to support the weight.
As shown, angle iron braces are secured between
two steel trusses. One-half inch threaded rods are
threaded into weld nuts at the corners of the unit.
Rod length should be kept to a minimum.
FIGURE 5
TYPICAL CEILING MOUNT (MODEL DB SHOWN)
To adjust airflow, see Figure 7.
1. Disconnect power to blower.
2. To change the blower RPM (which results in a
change in CFM), adjust variable pitch pulley on the
motor by loosening set screw “A” and rotating the
“A” part of the pulley while holding the "B" part in
place.
a. Figure 7A shows part “A” backed off two turns
with set screw “A” in flat section which is the
factory setting.
b. To increase the CFM, set vari-pitch pulley as
shown in Figure 7B. To decrease the CFM,
set as shown in Figure 7C.
4
Media Bag Dust
Mist Collector
Revised 12/06
NOTE: Always check belt tension after changing
pulley setting and adjust for 1/2" of movement at
midpoint. The ampere reading should not exceed the
FLA rating stamped on the unit nameplate, after
ductwork (if any) is installed and the unit is operating.
(In order to avoid motor overload, a starter must be
installed by customer - not supplied as part of air
cleaner.)
!
WARNING
Moving Parts - Disconnect power before servicing.
FIGURE 7
MOTOR PULLEY SETTINGS
After the three-phase connection is made, check the
actual direction of rotation of the blower wheel versus
the arrow on the blower housing. (See Figure 6 for
drive set door access.) If the wheel is not rotating in
the proper direction, reverse the motor rotation by
interchanging any two of the three AC input leads at
the terminal block.
Note: Even when running backwards, some air motion is
noticeable. When the blower is rotating correctly,
the access door will be snapped shut by the strong
negative pressure within the cabinet.
When the unit is used in a ducted application, the blower
speed is increased to compensate for the static pressure
loss of the ductwork. After the ductwork is installed, and
with the unit operating, measure the current flow to the
unit using an amprobe. The ampere reading should not
exceed the FLA rating stamped on the motor nameplate.
If current flow is excessive, reduce the blower speed by
adjusting the variable pitch sheave on the motor. (In
order to avoid motor overload, a starter must be installed
by the customer - not supplied as part of the air cleaner.)
4.4 AIR DIFFUSER
The four-way adjustable air diffuser grille can be set
to any open position desirable.
A. Unducted Installation (for area capture):
4.3 ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
Air diffuser should be set for maximum contaminant
capture and even dispersion of clean air. The pattern
should be that suggested by UAS or your local
representative.
B. Ducted Installation (for direct capture):
!
WARNING
Air diffuser can be set to any position that is
compatible with personnel comfort.
Risk of electrical shock.
Model DA (front-load)
Units with single phase (115, 208-230V/1/60Hz) are
prewired for proper rotation and line hook-up. Simply
hook up to a single-phase input circuit and the unit is
ready for operation. (See wiring diagram, page 7.)
Model DB/DBM (side-load)
The only electrical connection required is a power
source to the motor leads as shown by the wiring
diagram inside the electrical box.
5. UNIT OPERATION
After the unit has been installed in accordance with
Section 4, switch the unit on. Adjust air diffuser grille
per Section 4.4.
The filter monitor (0-5" differential pressure gauge),
located on the side of the unit, indicates when internal
filters need cleaning or replacement.
The field wiring box has standard knockouts for
incoming power leads. Make connections as
indicated by the "Supply Connection Location" label
inside the field wiring box.
The power switch for operating the unit and any fused
disconnect, overload relays or other controls required
by the National Electric Code or local codes must be
supplied by the customer (not supplied as part of the
air cleaner). The unit has been factory wired for the
voltage requirement indicated to UAS by the
customer. (See wiring diagram, page 7.)

1. Disconnect power.
6. MAINTENANCE
!
WARNING
Moving Parts – Disconnect power before servicing.
Each air cleaner is a self-contained air handling system.
Standard units have no intermittent electrical contacts
and the only mechanical parts subject to wear and tear
are motor and blower bearings, pulleys and belts.
Properly aligned and adjusted, these components
should yield years of trouble-free service.
6.1 CHECK THE FOLLOWING MONTHLY:
A. Belt Tension: One-half inch deflection at midpoint
between pulleys indicates correct tension. Adjust
as necessary.
B. Belt Wear: Frayed edges and stress cracks in belt
walls signal belt wear. Replace as required.
C. Unit Noise: Higher than normal noise indicates
abnormal belt or bearing wear. Where motor
bearings are regreasable, lubricate yearly. Where
motor bearings are not regreasable and for all
blower bearings (bearings are sealed), excessive
noise may indicate bearings need to be replaced.
Note: Periodically vacuum the cabinet interior and
blower compartment. Wipe off exhaust
louvers when changing filters.
6.2 FILTER MAINTENANCE
A. Model DA (front load): When the unit is supplied
with an optional wrap-around filter, remove the
filter material and discard when it becomes soiled.
Replace the filter material with part #33-0129 and
restart the unit. When the pressure gauge on the
side of the unit reads over 2" the internal filter(s)
may need to be replaced. Use the following
procedures for filter replacement.
1. Disconnect power.
2. Remove the prefilter and discard. Replace the filter
with the appropriate one selected from the table on
page 1. Restart the unit. If the pressure gauge
continues to read over 2", go to the next step.
3. Remove the prefilter and slide the primary filter
toward you. Discard the filter and replace with the
appropriate one selected from the table on page 1.
Restart the unit.
B. Models DB/DBM (side load) when the unit is
supplied with an optional wrap-around filter, remove
the filter material and discard when it becomes
soiled. Replace the filter material with part #33-0129
and restart the unit. When the pressure gauge reads
over 3", the internal filter(s) need to be replaced.
Use the following procedure for filter replacement.
2. Unlatch the door and remove the prefilter. Discard
the prefilter if it is a disposable type. Replace the
filter with the appropriate one selected from the table
on page 1. If the prefilter is a reusable metallic type,
clean and reinstall. Close the door and restart the
unit. If the pressure gauge still reads over 3", go to
the next step.
3. Unlatch door.
4. If primary filter is a 29" or 36" long fiberglass bag,
unlatch blower access door by reaching through the
compartment and unscrewing thumbscrew as shown
in Figure 3. Remove filter support rod and discard
the filter. Replace the filter with the appropriate one
selected from the table on page 1. Secure the
blower access door and latch the door.
5. If the primary filter is a 22" long fiberglass bag in
combination with a HEPA or carbon cell, remove the
22" bag filter and discard. Replace the filter with the
appropriate one selected from the table on page 1.
Latch the door and restart the unit. If the pressure
gauge still reads over 3", go to step 6 HEPA cell or
step 7 carbon cell.
6. Remove the new 22" bad and set aside. Slide the
HEPA cell forward until it clears the door opening.
Remove and discard the HEPA cell. Replace the
HEPA cell with part #33-0144. Reinstall the 22" bag
and latch door. Restart the unit.
7. Remove the new 22" bad and set aside. Reach
through the compartment and remove the screws
and frame on the front of the carbon cell. Set screws

and slide motion. Replace with 12 carbon trays part
#33-0141 or refill trays from bulk supply. Reinsert
trays and attach frame. Latch door and restart the
unit.
!
WARNING
The following section is for the use of trained
personnel only. The following procedures will
expose hazardous live and moving parts.
Disconnect air cleaner before proceeding.
7. TROUBLESHOOTING
The air cleaners are designed with minimum moving
parts. True unit breakdown can occur only in the
blower-motor section of the unit.
To troubleshoot the unit:

written instrument signed by the President or Vice President of Sales of UAS.
THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, WHETHER
WRITTEN, ORAL OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF
MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR NONINFRINGEMENT.
As Purchaser's exclusive remedy for any defects in the equipment, UAS will exchange or repair any
defective parts during the warranty period, provided such parts are returned, prepaid, to UAS' factory. The
obligation of UAS is limited to furnishing replacement parts F.O.B. UAS' factory or making repairs at UAS'
