The summer of 2016 was full of great memories, like our 'Caledon Day Gone Country' community celebration. And now the chill in the air, the bronzing of leaves and even the last tease of warm temperatures in September, tell us that the season is changing. There is no place as beautiful and wholesome than autumn and winter in our Town. People come from all over to see the majestic glow of our lush tree canopy or to visit our local farm stores for the best of our fall harvest. We’ve made some changes to this guide that I think you’re going to like. We’ve moved drop-in schedules from here to our website (www.caledon.ca/recreation). We’ve also included a whole new section for Adults 55+ and our Community groups. I’m also so proud of the dynamic Swim for Life™ brochure in the centre of this guide. We’ve adopted this program and we know you’ll have questions about how to register your child in the appropriate level of lessons. This guide will help you with that. In Caledon we are fortunate to have access to many wonderful programs and services available across 13 recreation facilities, as well as 260 km of publicly-accessible trails and over 65 parks and playgrounds. In this guide you will find all the information you need to participate and get active in Caledon this fall and winter. I encourage you to explore the many unique programs and services described in this guide and to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that Caledon has to offer. We use their inherent shade to blend with LUMO ART’s technique to develop an artist within them. We believe that drawing and colouring is a natural ability that all kids have. Even though art is a natural ability, a child needs training to excel in art much like music and sport. LUMO ART is an art instruction program set up in a project-based methodology. Our focus is to use project-based systematic hands on instruction to introduce kids to the basics of drawing and colouring. The art program helps cognitive skill development by teaching children to observe a picture and analyse it, in a way that kids find engaging and fun. This is a special introduction course to the LUMO ART program provides a solid primer for developing art skills. For more information please visit www.luminouskids.ca. These crucial skills will enable your child to process sensory information and eventually learn to evaluate, analyze, remember, make comparisons and understand cause and effect. The UCMAS programs ensures that your child develops these skills rapidly in the first few years of life and builds on them progressively throughout grade school. For private and semi-private lessons please contact your local recreation centre, or visit www.caledon.ca/recreation. Private Lessons Class length: 30 minutes Ratio: 1:1 Private lessons provide one-on-one instruction for individuals (3 + years) interested in working on a specific skill, stroke correction or a particular swim level. Semi-Private Lessons (H20/H30) Class length: 30 minutes Ratio: 1:2 (Preschool levels), 1:3 (Swimmer levels) Semi-private swim lessons provide a smaller instructor-to-participant ratio. Semi-private lessons are level-specific to ensure consistency in swimmer development during the class. Age: 18+ years Class Length: 45 minutes Ratio: 1:8 You’ll work towards a 10-15m swim on your front and back. You’ll do jump entries from the side and recover an object from the bottom in chest-deep water. Improve your fitness and your flutter kick with 4 x 9-12m interval training. LSS Adult 2 Age: 18+ years Class length: 45 minutes Ratio: 1:8 Kick it up a notch working on two interval training workouts of 4 x 25m kicking and front or back crawl. You’ll be able to perform dive entries and demonstrate breaststroke arms and breathing over 10-15m. You’ll be supporting yourself at the surface for 1-2 minutes, and showing off your handstands in shallow water. LSS Adult 3 Adapted lessons Adapted Swim Lessons Class length: 30 minutes Ratio: 1:1 Instructional swimming designed for children with special needs. Registrants will participate in the Swim For Life™ program under direction from a qualified swimming instructor. Age: 18+ years Class length: 45 minutes Ratio: 1:8 No sweat (or at least none anyone can see). You’ll learn eggbeater, stride entries and compact jumps; you’ll be doing a 300m workout and sprinting 25-50m; you’ll master your front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Registration after the third lesson To ensure program consistency, registration will not be permitted following the start of the third lesson.
