Progress Report #10
Problem Statement
The objective of this project is to design a suction machine that can be
manufactured from locally available materials with the ability to run off
batteries, electrical power (when available) or human power. This device
should provide the broadest range of possible applications while still
remaining under the 100$ price limit.
Last Week’s Goals
• Tyler & Nick- Meet up in Green Bay. Shop for windshield wiper
apparatus and car battery
• Lucas & Fan- Meet it Minneapolis, purchase starting motor, flywheel.
• Everyone-Look for parts that can be used as: joints and pin connectors
• Keep in contact over spring break with findings
Summary of Accomplishments
Tyler and Nick went shopping for used automobile parts in green bay.
Purchased a car batter and fan blower motor. (Cost= 25$ for both) Tested
new equipment.
Lucas went shopping at surplus stores in the twin cities. Purchased a
receptacle, springs and plastic syringes. (Cost = 15$ for everything) Tested
new equipment.
Fan brainstormed backup ideas to go turn motor in to vacuum source. Came
up with string/ bladder design.
Met on Tuesday at ECB and showed findings from over break. Tested new
equipment and found a locker for storage. Assigned goals for upcoming
week(s).
This week’s Goals
• Lucas & Nick- Build/Find a fly wheel and create syringe piston
prototype
• Fan- Build bladder/string alternative design prototype
• Tyler- Build one way valves for both prototypes
• Everyoneo Have prototypes done by next week’s Tuesday group meeting
o Contact Prof Webster about possibilities to easily alter voltage
from batter in order to change the motor’s RPM.
