The Apollo Career Center is seeking sealed bids for the purchase of a school bus AND a 9 passenger van.
The bids will be accepted at the Office of the Treasurer, 3325 Shawnee Road, Lima, Ohio, 45806 until Friday,
June 19th, 2015 at 9:00 AM at which time said bids will be opened. Bidders may procure specifications from
the Office of the Treasurer and/or also from the website at www.ApolloCareerCenter.com. Apollo Career
Center hereby reserves the right to accept or reject any and all bids.

CONVENTIONAL SCHOOL BUS SPECIFICATIONS, 72 PASSENGER
The bus is to be a 2016 model or newer as described in these specifications. Minimum specifications are
listed below. Bidders specifications must meet or exceed minimum specifications. All bus specifications shall
meet or exceed those specifications as set forth by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Federal Department
of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Education, minimum construction standards.
CHASSIS SPECIFICATIONS
Air Compressor
18.7 CFM capacity at 2400 RPM, water cooled-gear driven. Clean inlet air obtained

BODY SPECIFICATIONS
Air intake
Mounted on right front below windshield level. Manual control for fresh air.
Arm rest
Driver’s arm rest to left of driver on rear portion of switch pane.
Battery compartment Enclosed compartment with sliding tray. Tray to be held in place with a retaining pin.
Door hinged at the side of recessed handle.
Bumpers
Front and rear, plate steel, one piece, die-formed. Frame mounted, front and rear at
least 12” in height. Front bumper to include a plate with a white reflective background
for placement of State ID number.
Construction
Floor 14 gauge galvanized steel sections joined with grade 8 bolts and welds. Where
floor sections meet a “Main” floor member is formed with the addition of a 3/16th thick
steel angle 2”x1.5”. These angles are used to attach the body to the frame rails.
Auxiliary cross members are 14 gauge hat shaped located on 9” centers
Roof bows 14 gauge die-formed, hat shaped on piece continuous floor line to floor line.
Welding and/or splicing roof bows is not acceptable. Bows must not extend below the
floor line. 20 gauge side panels from the windows down. All panels inside and out to be
riveted.
Rain visors over side windows to be embossed in roof panels to reduce seams.
Rub rails, four applied rails located as follows: one below windows, one at a passenger
level, one near floor line, and one at the bottom of the skirt.
Door, entrance
Air operated outward opening. Grab rails located on both sides.
Door, emergency
A rear emergency door is required 52.5”x37.7”. Dual 6” hinges with grease fittings.
Floor
5/8” treated plywood installed over steel floor
Interior wheel housing to be protected with a one-piece molded cover.
Glove boxes
One located on the right side of dash 6”x6”x20” and a second compartment located to
the left of the driver 6”x7”x7”.
Headroom
Maximum of 77 inch headroom at the aisle measured over the plywood floor.
Heaters
All heaters are required to have cleanable filters.
90,000 BTU left front heater, with defroster for entrance door and windshield.
Heater cut off valves to be ball type ¼ turn shutoff.
50,000 BTU right front with two speed fan
50,000 BTU rear heater located behind rear wheelhouse and mounted off of the floor
with a two-speed fan.
Two 6” auxiliary fans located above the windshield to assist with defrosting.
Insulation
Fiberglass insulation R value of 5.77 located in the ceiling and side walls with additional
insulation in driver’s area. All ceiling panels to be perforated to reduce engine noise (full
length acoustic headliner).
Interior
Interior to be astro white. Seat frames and heaters to be black.
Lights
Warning light system meeting current state specifications and hooded to improve
visibility. Seven inch back-up lights. 16 lamp monitor LED capable, low profile strobe
light, and a LED stop arm.
Mirrors
Interior, rearview 6”x30”, sun visor 6”x30” Plexiglas. All exterior mirrors heated.
Paint
Exterior, heat cured polyurethane. White roof. Rub rails painted black full width of the
rails.
Radio
AM/FM/CD/PA with eight speakers, speakers located in the ceiling.
Reflective tape
Install 3M reflective vinyl as follows: under “School Bus” front and rear a 2” wide strip at
floor level full length both sides, outline rear of bus and emergency exits.
Roof hatches
Two, evenly spaced.
Rust proofing
Body parts thoroughly rust proofed after fabrication and before assembly.
Safety equipment
All required State specifications mounted in a compartment above the windshield.
Seat, driver’s
Air suspension, hi-back, cloth upholstery with a foam cushion and back, entire seat
adjustable without tools. Track adjustable driver’s shoulder belt required.
Seat, passenger
Cushions to have plywood bottoms. 39” wide seats, 12” aisle at cushion level, 14” at the
top of the seats. Seat frames constructed with square steel tubing and “C” channels with
a metal filler panel in the seat back for added strength. First two rows are to have seat
belt ready frames. Minimum body length 33”3”.
Step well
Three step, non-skid, rubber covered steps.
Switch panel
All accessory switches: heaters, warning lights, etc. must be mounted on a separate
panel located just below the driver’s window or on the right side dash area placed within
each reach of the drier. Must have a cutoff switch for interior noise.
(aka railroad/quiet switch)
Undercoating
Unit to be fully undercoated before mounting on chassis and baked on.
Windshield
Four piece flat shaded safety plate. Assist handles installed above the windshield and
fold-up step each side on right and left cowls to facilitate cleaning windshield.
Windows
To be tinted side windows 28%, entrance door 70%, and driver’s window 70%.
Wipers
Dual electric, bottom mounted, wet arm, intermittent operation.
Wiring
Color coded in molding above side windows. Body wiring protected by circuit breakers.
Locking outside wiring access door 27”x16” located just below the driver’s window. Two
spare wires running to the rear of the bus for future use.
Optional equipment
NOTE: All companies are encouraged to bid but any exceptions taken to these specifications or alternates
provided must be listed on the bid form or on a separate sheet attached to the bid form. If a list is not
submitted with the bit it will be required that the bus delivered meet all of the requested specifications. A build
sheet or equipment list does not meet this requirement, exceptions must be listed separate and marked as
exceptions.
VAN SPECIFICATIONS, 9 PASSENGER
The van is to be a 2015 model or newer as described in these specifications. Minimum specifications are listed
below. Bidders’ specifications must meet or exceed minimum specifications. All van specifications shall meet
or exceed those specifications as set forth by the Ohio Department of Transportation, Federal Department of
Transportation and the Ohio Department of Education, minimum construction standards.
Aisle
Emergency exit door, entrance door and special service entrance doors shall be
accessible by a 24” aisle.
Bumpers
Van shall be equipped with an OEM-supplied front bumper and the rear
bumper shall be 3/16” aluminum, 8” high with a 12” wrap.
Colors
The van body shall be painted Oxford White, with high gloss acrylic Urethane paint.
The interior shall be white. Plastic trims and head pads shall be grey.
Construction
Main structure shall be assembled with locked bolts, Huck fasteners, or structural
rivets. Only front and rear structures may be assembled with welds.
Body Structure
Roof bows shall be one piece, floor-to-floor, hat section type and shall be made of 16gauge G90 galvanized steel. Two 18-gauge structural beams shall extend the full l
length of the body.
Side Impact Barrier
Reinforced side impact barriers shall be incorporated into body design to enhance
passenger protection in the event of a side impact. These shall be made of G90
galvanized steel and shall be riveted to subfloor. A 3/16” thick L-shaped reinforcement
shall be integrated into the seat rail and run the full-length of the body.
Floor structure
Steel
Longitudinal “C” shaped sub frames shall be mounted to the OEM chassis frame rails
using a double action energy-absorbing soft mount system. The sub frame shall be
made of 10-gauge G90 galvanized steel. Transversal “C” sections of floor shall be made
of 14-gauge G90 galvanized steel linked with 3/16” zinc plated steel “L” shaped crossmembers and fastened to the sub frame. All passenger seats shall be fastened to floor
and reinforced side impact barriers.
Exterior Panels
Exterior side panels and roof panels shall be made with 0.040” 5052-H34 pre-primed
aluminum for superior corrosion protection and paint adhesion. Side panels shall extend
below centre line of rear axle to reduce the risk of pedestrian under riding. Roof panels
above side windows shall incorporate a drip rail that will run the full length of the body.
Front and Rear End Structures shall be made of aluminized steel square tubing.
Front and rear structures shall be mechanically affixed to sub-floor and roof bows.
Gravel Shields
High quality injection plastic gravel shields shall be installed on the lower front section of
each body side. Shields shall be 12 inches in height and flanged 3 ¾ inches underneath
the body.

Electrical Systems
Electrical Compartment
Electrical compartment shall be located above the driver door. The compartment shall
enclose the body electrical control panel with a printed circuit board for mounting the
fuses and relays. A 75-amp continuous-duty relay shall be installed and activated by the
ignition switch for the purpose of providing electrical current to the body accessories.
Every circuit shall be protected by ATO type fuses.
The body instrument panel shall be located at the right of the driver and integrated to the
OEM-supplied engine console cover. It shall not impede or obscure the driver’s visibility
of the loading zone, including the “More-view” window.
Interlock Device
An interlock device shall be installed on vans used for transporting persons with physical
disabilities. Such device shall meet FMVSS 403/404 and ADA standards.
Wiring Diagram A complete body-wiring diagram shall be provided with every body.
Body Wiring Harness Main body harness(es) shall be color and number coded.
Emergency Exit
All vans shall be equipped with a single center rear emergency exit door. The
emergency door shall be equipped with a 3 point-fastening device. The emergency door
hinge shall be stainless steel piano type, shall extend the full height of the door and
provide an unobstructed opening of 48” (height) by 33” (width).
Entrance Door
The entrance door shall be electrically operated. Electrical motor assembly shall have
passed a ten (10) year, 200,000-cycle test. The entrance door shall have a minimum
horizontal opening of 24” and a minimum vertical opening of 72”. The entrance door
shall be split-type and shall open outward. The upper bearings of the door mechanism
shall be maintenance-free type. The lower bearings shall be lifetime maintenance-free
Iglide® bushings with stainless steel pins to prevent corrosion.
Floor Covering
The floor covering in the under-seat area, including tops of wheel housings (if so
equipped) shall be a 1/8” grey smooth rubber material. The floor covering in the aisle, at
all wheelchair positions (if so equipped), and the steps shall be 3/16” grey ribbed rubber
covering. The floor covering shall be cut to fit tightly along sidewalls, wheel housings (if
so equipped) and center aisle, eliminating the need for center aisle trim.

Heater
OEM front heater and windshield defroster. Rear heater(s) shall be hot water type and
shall be located under seats or in a position that will not hinder passenger comfort,
circulation inside the vehicle, or wheelchair placement and shall be 20,500 BTU.
Insulation
Body shall be insulated with 1½” thick fiberglass in the headlining, side, front and rear
walls of the van. All roof bows shall also be insulated with 1½” thick fiberglass. A 5-ply,
5/8” thick exterior-grade plywood shall be installed over existing steel sub-floor along
with a thermoplastic sealed floor so as to ensure adequate thermal insulation, sound
abatement and moisture resistance. A sound deadening undercoating shall be applied to
sub-floor prior to the installation of plywood. All exposed edges of the plywood shall be
covered with plastic or aluminum trim. Screws shall securely fasten the plywood to the
sub-floor.
Interior Panels
All interior and ceiling panels shall be 0,025” and 0,040” 5052-H32 pre-painted
aluminum. ABS trim panels shall be installed over all doors. Full length, easily removable
PVC service panels shall be located above side passenger windows to enclose the
electrical harnesses. Ceiling panels shall be inserted into longitudinal mounting tracks for
perfect alignment and enhanced safety. Mounting tracks shall also be able to receive
accessories such as shoulder belts, shoulder belt rails. luggage racks, etc. Below the
windows, panels shall be made of 0.025" embossed aluminum and hemmed on all sides.
Lights
4”backup, 7”stop and tail, 7” turn signal, step well, license plate and clearance lights to
be LED. Four dome lamps mounted in roof panels.
Manuals, Body
One complete set of service manuals, parts list and wiring diagram is provided for
the body.
Mirrors
Interior Mirrors A 6” x 16” mirror, with padded edges, shall be installed immediately
above the driver.
Exterior Mirrors Rosco S/B W/EZ
Mud Flaps
Mud Flaps mounted front and rear.
Safety Equipment
5 lb. fire extinguisher, 24 unit first aid kit, triangle reflectors, Body Fluid Clean up Kit,
and Seat belt cutter mounted in driver’s area.
Seats and Barriers
Upholstery is gray (6) Six seats, Three 36”, Three 21”, all to have three point seat belts.
Undercoatings
The entire underside of the body, including but are not limited to floor, skirts, wheel
housings, sub-floor structure, rear bumper mounting brackets and braces, shall be
coated with rust-proofing material that meets the requirements of MIL-C-62218-92 rev A
for salt spray resistance (5% salt and 1000h), abrasion resistance and fire resistance.
Ventilation
A non-closing type static vent shall be in forward section of roof panel over driver area.
Water Infiltration Test
A positive pressure water infiltration test shall be performed to ensure proper water seal
of joints, fasteners, and gaskets found on vehicle.
Wheel Housings
Wheel housings shall be made of 0,080” 5052-H32 aluminum.
Windows
All vans shall be equipped with a More-view window located between the A-pillar of the
chassis and the entrance door. This window shall have an unobstructed glass area of at
least 411 square inches. All windows to be tinted with the exception of the “More-view”
window.
Chassis
2015 GMC Savannah, power steering, AM/FM radio, 6 speed automatic transmission,
