Your Quick Product Selection Guide Applications and their Solutions Grinding and Cut-Off Wheels 206 PFERD Product Range PFERD Warranty Our range of power tools designed for grinding, milling, brushing, polishing and cutting are in catalogue section 209. They cover all relevant RPM and output ranges and meet the latest ergonomics and safety requirements. PFERD also has an extensive range of tools to solve your application problems. There is a power tool to meet all RPM, power, construction shape and size, and holder requirements of all PFERD tools. We will warranty any defects connected to the air and electric grinders and flexible shaft machines and accessories by repairing or replacing those parts which are defective at our discretion free of charge. We grant a warranty on these defects for a maximum of 12 months. This does not apply if the statutory time limits are longer. We assume no liability for damages occurring within this time due to unprofessional handling, use of other non-approved replacement parts or maintenance in other workshops. Rotational Speed (RPM) Cutting Speed V (Peripheral Speed) Time is money. Productivity is determined by the output of the tool and the required time. The faster the grinding process, the greater the productivity. The best results are achieved with products that have a constantly high level of aggressiveness throughout the processing period. PFERD quality power tools also contribute to high productivity. They are highperforming, durable and less prone to failure. Rotational speed n is stated in revolutions per minute [RPM]. The required speed is determined from the cutting speed V in [SFPM] or [m/s] and the diameter of the tool d x π (3.14). Cutting speed is the speed difference between the cutting tool and the surface of the workpiece it is operating on. Feed rate is the relative velocity at which the cutter is advanced along the workpiece. The cutting speed V is stated in surface feet per min [SFPM] or in meters per second [m/s]. It is calculated by multiplying the speed of the drive n, in revolutions per minute [RPM] x the diameter of the tool d x π (3.14). Polishing V = RPM x d x π 4,000 - 100,000 Single rotation speed Compressed air (87 psi / 6.3 bar) 0.1 -1.2 Safe energy form, no sparking Power Range [HP] 0.4 - 1.4 Safety Safeguard to prevent unintentional re-starting Flexible Shaft Drives One-man workplace, stationary, with a variety of tool applications Very sturdy and durable, low wear ensures maximum service life Weld Removal Grinding Incl. In the new Catalogue 203, PFERD offers an expanded range of mounted points in vitrified and resin bonds, which have been adapted to new and modified materials. Mounted Points Designed to meet individual application needs, these products come in a broad range of grain types, grit sizes, hardness levels and shapes. The mounted points are manufactured on advanced production lines to high standards of dimensional accuracy and stability, consistent quality, and close tolerances. To enable you to select the correct mounted point for your needs, the workpiece material, main fields of application and specific operating requirements have to be taken into consideration. This overview shows which different types (abrasives, bonds and hardness grades) are recommended for the various workpiece materials and the tasks at hand. ➊■Workpiece Material First, determine the material to be machined. The various workpiece material groups are colour-coded and shown on the left-hand side of the chart below. ➋ Application The application must then be selected according to the type of work on the material. We make the following differentiation: ■■General use, ■■surface grinding and ■■edge grinding applications. The mounted point bond and the grain mix have an impact on the grinding output, tool life and aggressiveness of the tools. ■■For general use, the emphasis is on the balance between grinding output and tool life. ■■In surface grinding, the mounted points are subject to lower loads. This is why the mounted point bond is comparatively soft and designed to give high stock removal. ■■In edge grinding, the mounted points must be dimensionally stable. This is why the mounted point bond is comparably hard and designed for a long tool life. ➌ Mounted Point Hardness After determining the application (see column ➋), the hardness can be selected in the horizontal row. The recommended bond is shown with a black dot (•). The hardness grades within the bonds are arranged from “soft” to “hard”. ➍ Refer to the Catalogue Page For more information about the hardnesses, mounted point shapes, dimensions and grit sizes, the corresponding catalogue pages are stated at the bottom of the table below. Detailed information: Catalogue 208. 22 The new Catalogue 208. 23 Highlights in Catalogue 208. New M-BRAD™ Products M-BRAD™ is a nylon monofilament that evenly encapsulates abrasive grit particles. Filaments flex to all angles, conforming to the workpiece as it is conditioned. The flexibilty of strands flowing over, around and into contours makes it uniquely effective. Consistent, gradual cutting action lets you precisely control the degree of surface conditioning. You get the exact finish you want – from cosmetic surface preparation on wood or soft aluminum to edge-blending materials as tough as titanium. M-BRAD™ won’t degrade the dimensions of the workpiece, which reduces scrap and fill welding. M-BRADTM Abrasive Grain Types Silicon Carbide (SiC) Has a jagged crystal structure and is easily friable. It is the most common abrasive grit size used on light to heavy deburring application on Ferrous and non ferrous alloys. The majority of ADVANCE BRUSH power brushes offered in this section contain silicon carbide grain. Aluminum Oxide (AO) Has a more rounded crystal structure. It is more commonly used for wood applications. Due to the flexible nylon filament carrier in most cases it is not as aggressive as silicon carbide brushes. ADVANCE BRUSH products with aluminum oxide grain are available by special order. Ceramic Oxide (CO) Although the ceramic grain is a derivative of aluminum oxide, it is a more aggressive grain than silicon carbide. It is ideal for heavy deburring as well as for surface finishing applications where reduced cycle time is critical. It is highly effective on ferrous workpieces. Innovation from PFERD M-BRAD™ Composite Wheel Brushes With new M-BRAD™ composite wheel brushes, PFERD ADVANCE BRUSH offers the perfect tool for deburring, edge radiusing, light cleaning and polishing. It is available with silicon carbide or ceramic oxide grain. Detailed information: Catalogue 208, page 55. M-BRAD™ Composite Disc Brushes M-BRAD™ composite disc brushes are ideal for automatic deburring applications where either magnetic conveyors are used, or where the workpiece has a small cross section. Special filament configuration on standard density disc brushes provides better air flow for cool grinding on heat sensitive materials, and reduced friction during the grinding process to keep small parts stationary on automatic applications using conveyors. Detailed information: Catalogue 208, pages 57-59. 24 ECAP® Encapsulated J-Bevel Brush For specialized applications in pipeline work, ADVANCE BRUSH now offers an encapsulated J-BEVEL brush. Elastomer material encapsulates the knots of this stringer bead wheel for aggressive performance in deep weld and bevel cleaning. Extra-long trim length allows the brush to reach into tight bevels created by automatic orbital welding machines. You will find more information in our new release of the Pipeline Hand Tools Catalogue. Detailed information: Catalogue 208, page 30. TWIN NUT Stringer Bead Knot Wheels The unique clinch nut design of new TWIN NUT stinger bead knot wheels solves the problem of brush interference with the guard when changing the mounting position of the brush, resulting in increased user safety. Reversing the mounting position of the brush takes advantage of the self-sharpening effect of the wire, resulting in longer service life, and improved brush performance. Detailed information: Catalogue 208, page 29. COMBITWIST® The innovative COMBITWIST® alternating-knot design dramatically improves brush performance over conventional products. COMBITWIST® knots maintain their form longer, even when used on edges and in corners. This unique design also results in more aggressive brushing, faster stock removal, and improved rotational balance. Detailed information: Catalogue 208, pages 25, 26, 28, 29, 34. PFERDERGONOMICS COMBITWIST® brushes from PFERD ADVANCE BRUSH help to reduce the hazardous vibrations during the work process. PFERD ADVANCE brushes with COMBITWIST® knot construction feature smoother running due to better wheel balance and increased removal. The unique production style prevents the brushes recoiling even when used on tool edges and corners. We will be happy to send you more information about the topic of health and safety upon request. 25 Catalogue 209 – Power Tools. Catalogue 209 – has also been given a more user-friendly layout.
