In keeping with the motto "Europe is here", Berlin is actively involved in debates on both national and European levels. There is a particular focus on the future of the EU, as well as on mastering global challenges such as the economic and financial crisis, and on energy policy. As a symbol of overcoming the old contrast between east and west, the city plays a vital role in the European integration process. Berlin sees itself as a host and a partner for institutions of federal and state government as well as for diplomatic missions, the media and associations. For this reason, representatives from the automotive industry, energy providers, data services and politics will assemble for the 1st International ATZ Conference "Grid Integration of Electric Mobility" at andel's Hotel Berlin, one of the capital's leading conference and event hotels. www.vi-hotels.com/en/andels-berlin/ WELCOME Worldwide legislation on fuel consumption and exhaust emissions and a transformation in social values will change our mobility. In the future, vehicles will be powered, depending on their use, by an integrated system of internal combustion engines and electric motors, or by electric motors alone. Electric mobility will make sense only if the electricity required can be generated from regenerative energy resources. This type of power generation is subject to natural fluctuations. As a result, the availability of highly flexible loads and storage systems will play a special role. The electric vehicles of tomorrow, with their grid-relevant properties as controllable power consumers and electricity storage systems, can help to stabilize the power grids. Electric mobility will not succeed unless the new architecture of the powertrain and the complete vehicle are combined with sensible integration into intelligent power networks and the targeted application of information technology. For that reason, we are offering a national and international discussion forum for representatives from the automotive industry, energy providers, data services and politics on 31 May and 1 June 2016 in Berlin to provide an opportunity to discuss the new challenges and possible solutions.
