PART 2 – PRODUCTS:
2.1
MATERIALS
A.
The 15 kV underground conductors to be installed under this Contract shall be
by BICC General Cables, or approved equal and meet the following
specifications.
1.
The cable shall be Unishield, EPR, 15 kV power cable, stranded copper
conductor, of size specified in the drawings with Class B stranding,
extruded strand shield, ethylene propylene type insulation (133% level),
with copper shielding drain wires.
2.
The cable shall meet ICEA #S-68-516, AEIC #CS6, and IEEE #383
Standards.
3.
Cable shall be UL-listed as Type MV-105 and have a chlorinated
polyethylene jacket.
4.
The neutral cable for the main feeder shall be RHW, 600v, stranded
copper conductor power cable. The neutral cable shall be jacketed with a

color different from the phase cables. The neutral conductor shall be the
same AWG size as the phase conductors or size as noted on the drawings.
B.
Loadbreak Connectors: Loadbreak modules and elbows will be manufactured by
Cooper Power Systems or approved equal. These devices are to be used in
transformers, switches, and sectionalizer boxes.
1.
Modules: Modules will be 3-way 600A, 15 kV with mounting bracket
and parking stands – CPS #VBJ-3 for the feeder circuits.
2.
600A Elbows: Elbows for the 500KCM conductors will be 600A, 15 kV,
CPS T-OP II, or approved equal.
3.
200A Elbows: Elbows for the #2 tap conductors will be 200A, 15 kV,
CPS # 2604599B, or approved equal.
4.
Cable Shield Adapters: CPS cable shield adapter kits (for unshield cable)
shall be used on all 600A and 200A elbows.
5.
Protective Caps: Two spare shielded (grounded) protective caps by CPS
shall be provided per 4-way module. All unused, exposed bushings shall
have protective caps also.
6.
Other Loadbreak & Deadbreak Products: The Contractor shall provide
the following additional CPS Rubber Products: The Contractor shall
submit these items with an AF Form 3000.
Bushing Well Insulating Plugs, 15 kV, 600A
Bushing Well Insulating Plugs, 15 kV, 200A
Insulated Stadoff Bushings, 15 kV, 200A

IDENTIFICATION
A.
Material: Stainless steel nametag, 1” high x 3” long. Metal stamp nametag
using “Addressograph” machine.
B.
Cabling nametag will use the equipment destination method at each end of the
cabling.
PART 3 – EXECUTION:
3.1
INSTALLATION
A.
Installation work shall only be performed by qualified lineman/electricians who
have worked on medium voltage (15 kV) systems.

B.
There shall be no conductor splices in raceways, or conduits.
C.
There shall be no splices in 15 kV cables.
D.
Perform a meggar test on all insulated conductors installed under this contract.
The test shall be performed from conductor to ground. The minimum value of
acceptance for each conductor shall be 100 megohms. If a conductor fails to
meet this requirement, all conductors in that raceway shall be removed and
replaced with new and the meggar test shall be re-accomplished to guarantee
compliance with the above. A written report of the test data shall be furnished to
the Government Project Inspector in five working days after the tests are
complete.
E.
The Contractor shall comply with all applicable requirements of the National
Electrical Code, and National Electrical Safety Code, (latest revisions).
F.
15 kV conductors shall be color-tape coded to identify each phase. At each,
transformer, sectionalizer, and pad mounted switch.
G.
At every sectionalizer box, modules and elbows shall be used for every 15 kV
Cable entering and leaving the box. No sectionalizer box is intended as only a
pull point for cable, they are also considered an access point for power.
H.
At every sectionalizer box, an extra “loop” of conductor shall be left in each
ground sleeve to provide ease of future maintenance.
TESTS
A.
The Contractor shall submit a written report of the meggar test data within 5
days after the test.
