Subject Description Form Subject Code ICU310 Subject Title Electronic System Development Practice Credit Value N/A Level N/A Pre-requisite / Co-requisite/ Exclusion Nil Objectives Intended Learning Outcomes The objective of this course is to nurture and develop practical skills and technical competence for students to practice in Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) through the development of an electronic system. Upon completion of the subject, students will be able to: a) Apply general electronic equipment for electronic prototypes testing; b) Design printed circuit boards in electronic design automation; c) Fabricate printed circuit boards and assemble electronic prototypes. d) Apply practical electronics skills in electronic product/system development Subject Synopsis/ Indicative Syllabus 1) Introduction to common electronics parts, use of basic test instruments, best practices and basic troubleshooting techniques, electronics workshop safety. 2) Soldering and de-soldering techniques, mounting and installation of electronic circuits, wiring of subassemblies. 3) PCB design, hands on practice on PCB circuit design in EDA. 4) Circuit artwork, etching process, PCB prototype fabrication. 5) Electronic system prototyping and integration. Teaching/Learning Methodology The module will be conducted on project basis with theoretical supplement. The general principles, techniques and related technologies will be presented to students. Students learn the required skills through practical exercises and case studies which strengthened through projects for developing their problem solving skills, integrating their learning and applying their learnt techniques in simulated industrial environment.
