CORPORATE
ITALTECH WIND is part of Italtech Group, the group that has been a world leader in the
construction of injection presses for the automotive sector since 1984 and which currently
has over 300 employees with a network of support centres located throughout the world.
Thanks to 25 years of experience in one of the more technologically advanced sectors, like
that of automotives, and by taking advantage of the synergy arising from the construction
of large-tonnage presses in this sector, the Gruppo Italtech has been able to invest more
than 3 million euro into Research and Development in the wind-power industry in the last
3 years.
The turning point came in 2007, when Italtech Wind obtained the rights to the International
Patent from the Polytechnic of Milan getting right to the heart of the wind turbine.
Today Italtech Wind is established on the wind energy market as a company which not only
manufactures turbine generators, but as one of the few manufacturers in the world with an
industrial know-how of the generator itself.
The world’s first multistage permanent magnet generator was created in the Research
Centre of the Polytechnic of Milan in 2003.
Researchers understood at once
that, due to its electromagnetic principle, this new
generator could provide a significant service to the field of wind power.
In 2007, thanks to the achievement of a sound industrial structure, the Pegoraro family
proposed the manufacture of this innovative generator. The same year saw the realization
of the 50 kW model followed by numerous and rigorous tests at the Polytechnic which
immediately showed excellent results. An exciting incentive which encouraged the
continuation of constant commitment and investment.
The 200 kW turbine generator is the first target achieved by the company in 2010 and
an important outset for entering the wind power sector in the near future with an
excellent and innovative product.
ITALIAN TECHNOLOGY PUTTING WIND TO USE
The ITALTECH WIND turbines, without a gearbox, are able to fully guarantee performance
and product durability. Research, precise mechanical design, quality manufacturing and
technical support for the customer, have enabled the company to reach the technical and
qualitative level enjoyed by the most valued figures in the wind power sector.
Due to its low RPM, the patented multistage permanent magnet synchronous generator
allows mechanical losses to be reduced, resulting in increased performance. The absence
of the gearbox reduces the number of rotational components thus supporting the mechanical
simplicity of the system.
This contributes to higher efficiency and reliability of the wind turbine over time, minimizing
all maintenance activities and guaranteeing maximum profitability of the plant.
The electromagnetic principle of the ITALTECH WIND generator allows the plant to function
even in the event of irregularities in some of the system components.
The high efficiency of the generator at all rotational speeds, a control capable of handling the
number of variable rotations and the variations of blade pitch guarantee a high yield from the
generator even with a partial load.
The special formation of the concentrated stator winding coils allows for a largely sinusoidal
waveform and a very low level of harmonic distortion.
The permanent magnet excitation eliminates the field excitation promoting energy efficiency.
The temperature of the generator is always maintained well below the resistance values of
the insulating materials and consequently there is no need for forced ventilation circuits.
WIND TECHNOLOGY
The ITALTECH WIND generator is a technologically advanced machine.
The direct transmission allows:
•
The reduction in the number of rotational components
•
The reduction of maintenance and operating costs
•
Higher yield
•
Less wear to components
•
Reduced noise pollution
The advantages of the multistage permanent magnet synchronous generator are:
•
Higher efficiency thanks to the absence of the field excitation
•
Higher winding factor and good electromotive force waveform
•
The absence of torque ripple
•
The absence of teeth harmonics
•
The absence of magnetic noise
•
Axial magnetic flux
•
Low operating temperatures
•
The absence of forced ventilation
ITALTECH WIND TECHNOLOGY
DIRECT DRIVE
The ITALTECH WIND wind turbines, unlike conventional turbine generators, do not
have a gearbox: the turbine shaft is the same as that of the generator. This means
that the production of electric energy occurs at the same speed as the turbine, providing
numerous benefits:
•
The reduction of mechanical friction
•
Noise reduction
•
The reduction of the number of machine components

MAGNET GENERATOR
The generator of an ITALTECH WIND turbine is the result of the collaboration between
ITALTECH WIND and the Polytechnic of Milan. It is an extremely high performance innovative
patented synchronous permanent magnet generator with axial flux and concentrated coils.
Axial flux and a large number of poles give the generator a higher torque density than that which
can be achieved by conventional radial flux machines.
Due to the permanent excitation of the magnets, the field excitation is absent, with benefits seen
in terms of performance, weight and dimensions.
The temperature of the generator is always maintained below the resistance values of the
insulating materials and, therefore, there is no need for forced ventilation circuits.

REDUCTION OF THE MECHANICS
ITALTECH WIND wind turbines are structurally simple machines without a gearbox or the mechanical
connections between the turbine and the gearbox and the generator, typical of conventional
machines. Even the number of bearings is reduced and their rotational speed is very low.
HIGH PERFORMANCE AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY
ITALTECH WIND wind turbines are characterized by high performance in all working conditions
made possible thanks to a combination of different factors:
• Direct drive: low friction and the reduction of rotating parts
• The absence of the excitation current
• Extremely high performance generators even at partial load
• An advanced control system able to handle the variable speeds and the variation of the blade pitch
Thanks to these features, together with reduced maintenance requirements, ITALTECH WIND wind
turbines are able to offer excellent energy efficiency, particularly in sites with low-intensity winds.
REDUCED MAINTENANCE AND RELIABILITY
ITALTECH WIND wind turbines are characterized by a reduced number of extremely efficient
components and are extremely reliable with reduced maintenance and service needs.
