Virtual Environment NE W ! Automated New Zealand Building Code Compliance with IES With its VE-Ware and VE-Gaia products, IES now offers a variety of automated assessments for New Zealand (NZ) Building Code compliance. Developed in conjunction with the University of Canterbury, the new tools cover NZ Part H1, NZS 4218: 2009 or NZS 4231 pt 1: 2007 standards. The collaboration between the University of Canterbury and IES has been sponsored by the Foundation for Research Science and Technology, the Cement and Concrete Association of New Zealand. VE-Ware Free building energy and carbon analysis Yes, completely free whole-building annual energy and carbon usage tool. Accessed by the IES plug-ins to Google SketchUp™ (also free) or Autodesk® Revit®, VE-Ware is a way for everyone to get involved in the drive for energy efficiency in buildings – IES believes everyone should have the capability to understand “how well does my building perform?” VE-Ware can analyse both new and existing buildings of all types and across all global locations, allowing anyone involved in building design or refurbishment to compare at the click of a few buttons how different designs, layouts and system options affect energy performance. This tool utilises our world leading ApacheSim dynamic thermal analysis software to provide indicative comparison results. The calculation is based on real geometry, international data on climatic conditions and typical characteristics for different building, room and system types, as chosen by the user. NEW NZ Building Code Compliance For locations in NZ, users can access our Building Code tool for NZ Part H1 compliance. (Outside of NZ the AIA 2030 Challenge tool is accessed). This tool uses the verification method (IES VE is ASHRAE 140 tested) automatically determining which standard for compliance should be used; NZS 4218: 2009 or NZS 4231 pt 1: 2007. The tool includes datasets from these standards, developed by the University of Canterbury to automatically generate proposed & reference models, simulate both models and produce a straightforward compliance report. Automated New Zealand Building Code Compliance with IES VE-GAIA Step-by-step complete analysis workflows A revolution in building performance analysis, VE-Gaia’s complete workflow environment is driven by “step-by-step” smart navigation that makes the power of the VE accessible to all users. A series of Navigators guide users through a range of tasks; from advanced modelling, to energy/carbon analysis, to LEED/Green Star credit assessment. Steering a clear route through the analysis process, from creating models, through simulation to reportage, users can easily undertake complex advanced simulations. Designers can track progress, control quality, iterate workflows, trigger simulations, filter results and produce automated visual and rich-text reports. Direct connectivity to SketchUp™, Revit® and ArchiCAD® allows quick, effective feedback direct from early and detailed architectural models. gbXML and DXF import functions are also offered, alongside the ability to input and manipulate exact building data within an integrated central data model. Within a project users can easily mould and define their workflow within the framework provided by the Navigators. Any common Navigator component is always up to date and users can move between Navigators at any time, setting up rapid cycles of development and analysis. Users can utilise ‘notes’ and ‘date/user stamp’ functions within Navigators to facilitate a direct quality assurance process which can be exported for documentation purposes. The VE uses the verification method (IES VE is ASHRAE 140 tested); users are able to adjust compliance settings (climate zone, weather file, user details and more), simulation settings including, for example, detailed solar pre-analysis, plus access the extensive data editing and definition features of VE-Gaia. Both NZS 4218: 2009 or NZS 4231 pt 1: 2007 standards are applied in the tool. The VE includes datasets from these standards, automatically generates proposed & reference models, simulates both models and produces a detailed compliance report. This includes breakdowns of the proposed and reference models generated, and a breakdown of the compliance analysis and outcome. HTML tables and charts are provided for the user to easily cut and paste.
